But you don't have to play "normal," you could decide to skip some southern locations, and head north toward the Temple. The military base will be very hard, if you don't have a strong squad by the time you get there. And you'll need to find what he is looking for.
But, if it could be done, THEN he might help in cleaning up the remaining locations. His Scout skill gives increased vision radius on the map, so you can see hostile squads from a greater distance. (Those attacks continue, even after the Kayala Yuta Temple sector is cleared: they are sent out from other hostile locations.)
in ao_quests.txt:
look for the section starting with:
Quest (514, "Shenyen", 2)
1. Comment out ("//") this line:
ConditionVisitArea "quest_14_ashes_00" 1
2. Add:
ConditionItems 76 1
Note:
• The sabre/scimitar is a somewhat rare item, only dropping from enemies.
• I don't know where "quest_14_ashes_00" is, on the map.
• According to the author of the Realistic Rebalance mod, you may have to start a new game for changes to the quest file to take effect.
Once your squad is carrying both required items, Dariush's quest will trigger a popup message and email. If ammo is important to you, unload the guns before handing them over: Dariush doesn't trust your ammo, and throws it away.
Would be interested on your thoughts on starting mercs for hard difficulty... it looks to me like Spider + Bubba or Biff + Flo are the go, as Cliff and Grunty (solo) are about the only other options to start off with at least basic levels of medical and mechanical...
@low intelligence specimen:
yes there is a fix for the 4th recruit, though I don't know that anybody really cares because by that stage of the game they're pretty useless. I don't know if there is an actual mod but you can edit the game's files manually to do it. Sorry I don't have a link to hand, but if you search for it I'm sure you'll find it... I saw it in the steam discussions somewhere
I played the game a year ago and I'm not sure, but I think you can find a G36 in a box (I don't remember the map).
You have generally four ways to get a weapon:
- Hire a merc with this weapon (Not for G36C).
- Buy it from a vendor
- Find it in a box
- Get it from a dead enemy
