At the time of writing this guide, I have approximately less than 10 hours into the game. Though some gatekeeping bags of trash will want to flaunt their hundreds of gameplay hours and pre-alpha seniority, I encourage you to read this guide and think about your online interactions as they were observed by someone new to the game.

With no current standing or visibility in the community, my comments and guidelines here are essentially lost to the void. I can only beg introspection from you.
Consider where your ideas and words come from.

If you are pressed for time and politics, here is the short of what this guide is trying to communicate.

• You can still joke around with people
  
• Jokes are not racist, homophobic, ableist, or contain any hate speech
  
• Your behavior is derived from somewhere

One of the first comments that I heard on a high population round server was that the community had started with a large number of distasteful jokers and the recent Devolver sale (ended 4/20/20) had only added to those numbers. Combining toxic players constantly throwing slurs back and forth with racist mic spam has done little for the community's reputation. As a man who self describes as reasonable, I have recognized a serious lacking in human decency.
Though I recognize that Sub Rosa is a video game and is meant to be taken lightly. The ease of which people can discount their poor behavior can be met with the counter point that it is just as easy to not be difficult, racist, inflammatory, or abelist.

Time is money and there is no space for empty words. That much and more is true in Sub Rosa. In this small space, I would like to recognize the straight shooters and clean dealers of the community who understand that, in the capitalist hell that is the Sub Rosa world, cash is king.

Any video game with team versus team gameplay suffers from the same problem. There is a double edged sword where losses should not be taken seriously because it is only a game and the very real, and frequently vocal, frustration of losing for stupid reasons or many times. In addition to this double edged sword, gaming has been permeated by the tongue-in-cheek "get good" rhetoric that is mainly used to inflame other players. In my opinion, this is an extension of modern conservatism and is in line with things like the bootstrap model and the whole "snowflake" discourse.

With many players likening Sub Rosa's atmosphere and cutthroat business to the book The Art of the Deal by Donald J. Trump and Tony Schwartz, I cannot help but be concerned that current US president, Donald J. Trump's rhetoric has seeped into the collective consciousness and roleplaying norm. I implore you to divorce your roleplaying from this idea and liken it to organized crime before you link it to politics. The line between the two being thin as it is, but I digress.

There will be times when you, as a player, will be frustrated. Poor conduct of other players may incite you to say things you do not mean. You are human and can be provoked to forget yourself and your humanity.

I was going to include a list of common words and ideas that are misused or co-opted by toxic players. Instead, I am including this little section here to provoke some thinking about who the kinds of people are that end up being the toxic part of the community.
If you know a thing or two, most poor behavior is centered around the belief that any attention is good attention. Ironically, in the business world this is frequently true. Sex tape releases, international scandal, and poor branding rake in views and profit. Similarly, people who spam racist or annoying content. The people who do these things are, in most people's minds, an "other." They cannot be conceived of. It is difficult to imagine a person intentionally flagging themselves as annoying or downright hateful.

If you are with a decent heart and half a brain, the trends will present themselves to you.

At the time of writing this guide, I did not know that community behavior was a serious topic of discussion. After reading through some of the Discord server's conversations about development and moderating, I would like to commend the leadership of this game for handling toxic community members in a calm and even manner.
