DISCLAIMER
If you have any specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask and I'll do my best to keep this current.

This is also my first guide, so any formatting/wording/suggestions/constructive criticism/etc... will be more than appreciated!
Harvest Sun
This achievement will occur as you play the game, after you've harvested your first cassava plants and spoken to Tiao.
The Last Waterhole
Dig up all 4 water holes. Keep an eye out for the yellow trees (Caraiberia trees) and dig in the opening beside it.

  • Water hole on Grandfather's ranch
  • Water hole on Firmina's ranch
  • Water hole on Path to Village
  • Water hole in abandoned village (As you continue towards the village from Firmina's ranch and cross the bridge, bear left and you will find a path that needs to be cut. Continue following that path and you'll see an abandoned village. There's a white rock wall with a chest hiding behind it.)

Splash!
Step/walk through 10 piles of goat poop, which can be found around the goats. In my first play-through, I was unable to find 10 piles of goat poop to step in. When I completed the game I went to the same area and after stepping on 2-3 poops I earned the achievement. You may need to do the same, but this doesn't take much time at all!
It Hurts!
You earn this achievement by walking into cacti 10 times. There are cacti that you cannot cut down, and when you walk into them you'll see text pop up that show she was poked by the cactus. Your water level will reduce slightly.

The quick way to earn this is to just walk into cacti until it's earned.
Moo
You earn this achievement when you milk the cow by interacting with it.

**NOTE: If you are also trying to earn the Vegan Power achievement, I would either avoid collecting milk in case it affects the Vegan achievement, or find a save point at a prayer station, milk the cow, then restart from your last save point.**

Welcome to the Village
This achievement should appear as you play through the game and enter the village for the first time. You will have to take a few steps into the village for the achievement to register.
Prepare to Die
This achievement should appear as you play through the game, when you are asked to enter Death Valley to acquire an item for your Grandfather. You will be provided with a key to get past the gate at that time, until then it will say that you aren't ready to enter if you try to go in.
Dig Hunter
This achievement should appear as you play through the game and use your hoe (digging water holes near Caraiberia [yellow] trees, Cassava)

Note from DDtective if you're having trouble getting this achievement
"'Dig Hunter' is broken in current build. But there is easy workaround for this. Go to library -> game properties -> betas and switch to 'legacy - legacy' version. Achievement should unlock as soon as you dig out first cassava behind granpa's house."
HM 01
You should earn this achievement as you play through the game. This achievement is earned when cutting through blocked passages with your machete.
Get Hood
This achievement will appear as you play through the game and are provided with a hood. Potential spoiler image below.
Banners Saga
After you've gone through the first cleaning of the mountain path, you'll see 4 red banners illuminated. Interacting/ praying at each banner will reveal a piece of a poem and clear the thick smoke. There is also a final gold banner is at the end of the path. Once you've interacted with all banners, the achievement will pop up.
Gotcha!
This achievement will pop up once you've found your first collectible, which you require a machete to obtain. Pick up whetstones as you find them along the path to keep your machete sharpened.

Once you receive the machete, the first collectible is behind Firmina's house.
Treasure Hunter
This achievement is earned when you've found eight collectibles, which are found in chests that require a machete to open. Don't forget to keep picking up whetstones to keep your machete sharpened! All collectibles are very easy to find if you're willing to travel along every path.
Backlands' Explorer
Find all 16 collectibles. This was pretty simple to achieve so long as you keep an eye out for the chests, look behind houses, and take each path. You will find 15 collectibles before going to the mountain. I was worried at first that I missed one- the last collectible can be found once you go through the mountain dust, to the left of the first red banner you see.
  • Leather Jerkin- Next to the water hole at Grandfather's ranch
  • Rosary- Behind Firmina's house

  • Key of an Unknown House- If you take the trail behind Firmina's house (toward the red tree) and stay left (right takes you to death valley), the chest is between the cashew tree and the small farm plot.

  • Punctured Canteen- When you enter Death Valley, this chest is immediately to your right.

  • Candles - Continuing into Death Valley, when you reach the abandoned barn area you shuold see the chest on the right

  • Clay Umbu Tree- On Firmina's ranch, as you approach the sign that indicates "Path to Village", there is a clay building to the left with an old garden plot. The chest is next to the bean plant in that garden.

  • Clay Figurine of a Goat- On Firmina's ranch, there's a chest just beside her goat that passed away.

  • Lamp- As you continue towards the village and cross the bridge, bear left and you will find a path that needs to be cut. Continue following that path and you'll see an abandoned village. There's a white rock wall with a chest hiding behind it.

  • Felt Hat- As you continue towards the village from Firminas and cross the bridge, enter the abandoned farm/mill. On the side of the abandoned house is the chest.

  • Old Paper- On the path to the village, this chest is just beside the watering hole.

  • Worn Sickle- Next to the watering hole on the path to the village, there's an abandoned barn with a chest inside.

  • Old Newspapers- Directly across from Mrs. Almira's house

  • Soldiers Uniform Rag- In the village, behind the church are several graves, to the left of the graves is a chest

  • Taxes Guide- On the righthand side of the church in the village

  • Fair Crate- Center of the village, in front of the church

  • Shattered Banner- After passing through mountain dust to the left of the first red banner

Stay a while and listen
There are several benches across the map, be sure to sit at every bench to watch a quick cutscene. There are four benches- with the fourth being when you go into the mountains.

  • The first bench is on Grandpa's ranch across from his house
  • The second bench is on Firmina's ranch overlooking death valley
  • The third bench is on Firmina's ranch near the water
  • The fourth bench is a potential spoiler. To find the last bench before end-game: The final bench is to the left of the golden banner when you're traveling through the mountains. If you go straight, the game ends. If you go left, there's a path to a final bench

Ancestral call
This achievement contains spoilers

To earn this achievement, After your grandfather passes away, sit at each of the benches once more and you'll see his ghost sitting next to you. The achievement occurred sitting at the bench overlooking death valley, so you may want to start there in case you only actually need this one!
Mourning
This Achievement contains spoilers

After Tiao has passed away, sit on the bench by his house and he will appear as a ghost to ask you to put a Xique-Xique flower on his grave. If you inspect his grave it will also note that he used to bring these flowers home with him from the farm. If you walk to the farm area and travel down the road a bit further towards the village, you will see one of these flowers (large white flower) on a cactus. Pick the flower, go back to Tiao's house and place it on his grave.
It's super effective
Once you're able to make small game traps, set a trap and wait a few moments.

Note **If you are working toward Vegan Power, I'm not sure if you can still achieve Vegan Power if you catch an animal. You may want to save the game first by praying, make + set a trap, catch an animal to earn the achievement, then restart the game from your last save point to avoid catching/eating any meat products**

This is Arida
You should earn this achievement as you play through the game- once you complete the game you should earn this achievement.
Quality seal
For this achievement, you must interact with all objects. I recommend attempting this on your first playthrough to encourage you to interact with everything, whereas through second and third playthroughs you might accidentally overlook something you thought you interacted with before. I interacted with everything I possibly could.

If anyone has earned this achievement without doing any of the below, please let me know and I will remove it from the list!

  • Interact with all chests and baskets
  • Interact with all objects/items (prayer stations, broken fire pits, toys, etc...)
  • Interact with all people (4 in total)
  • Interact with all dead animals
  • Interact with all banners
Mountain
This achievement will appear as you play through the game, once you receive your hood it's time to go to the mountain and you can now go through the dust.
I'll miss you
This achievement contains spoilers:

To earn this achievement, visit your grandfather's grave behind his house after the cutscene where you learn he passes away. I saw in previous discussions that this achievement is a bit buggy such that if you save the game in between the grave may disappear. The grave looks just like the achievement photo
Extra Credits
When the game is over, watch the credits to the end. It's only a minute or two long, and has a special message that makes watching it well worth it :)

UPDATE: Steam user @efimari, mentioned that they accidentally skipped the credits, but were able to select the credits from the main menu to earn this achievement. This can be done much quicker than re-running the mountain path- thanks for the great feedback Efimari!!
Vegan Power
To earn this achievement, I avoided milk, eggs, and meat and played through the game. I don't know if you can collect the items without eating them and still earn the achievement, so I avoided certain things entirely:

  • I did not milk the cow (See note under "Moo" achievement)
  • I did not set any traps to catch lizards (See note under "It's super effective" achievement)
  • I did not collect eggs from birds nexts
  • I did not cook or eat any meat products

The first time I tried this, I didn't get the achievement. I think it may be because I selected a chest that had dried meat in it, and despite going back a save it didn't seem to register. I think this is still a bit glitchy.

UPDATE- Recommendation to accomplish this quickly: I decided to try one more time and just do the fastest walkthrough I could, didn't open any chests/baskets, and only ate cactus, and avoided all the items in the bulletpoints above. The runthrough took me 15 minutes. It was so quick that had more than enough to eat/drink without having to start a fire or look through chests.

UPDATE 2: I received great feedback from steam user @efimari, who mentioned that they had both a roasted gecko and eggs in their inventory that they did not consume, however they did consume milk and still earned the achievement.
Looter
After several attempts I was able to get this achievement. To earn this achievement, you have to interact with each basket (the ones that give items).

I swore I found all the baskets in my first and second run-through's, but decided to just start over and try one last time. The only thing I did differently this time was select each item using "E" instead of removing all of the items at once. If you also find that you're struggling to get this achievement, maybe this will help you too!

Basket locations per area are as follows:
  • Grandpa's ranch: Two baskets
    1. Farm area
    2. Right next to his house

  • Firmina's ranch: Three baskets
    1. Near the goat next to an old house
    2. Up the path next to Firmina's house that you must cut through, near the prayer station on the path to the red tree
    3. Next to Firmina's house.

  • Abandoned Mill/Farm area (As you approach the village but before the map says "Path to village"): Three baskets.
1.Beside the farm house on the right
    2. On the outer fence of the farm house
    3. Barn area beside where the water hole is located **THIS ONE MAY HAVE BEEN REMOVED-
I was unable to find it on additional play throughs. Thanks @Boris for the heads up**

  • Death Valley: Two baskets
    1. When you enter, bear right and you will see it (THIS ONE CONTAINS DRIED MEAT, AVOID IF GOING FOR VEGAN POWER ACHIEVEMENT JUST IN CASE!)
    2. Second in the abandoned barn area.

  • Village: Three baskets
    1. Outside the house closest to the front right of the church
    2. Outside the house closest to the front left of the church
    3. [After salt quest is activated] - Next to the shop (the building with goods outside it and "Vendo do Zeca" written on the top [Thanks @boris!]

  • Mountain Path: Two baskets
1 & 2: A little tricky to describe, they are located on side trails when finding your way to the red banners
Knowledge is Power
This achievement came with the artbook update- to receive update, open the game, and click on the artbook at the bottom right of the screen. I had to scroll through the whole book (which I encourage you to do anyway- it's a pretty cool book!) for the achievement to appear. Thanks to @Markus_Krajtus and @Syegrain for letting me know that the update was needed for this achievement!

Two times tried Quality Seal, still no success? Maybe I need to interact with every item I find in chest? Or I am missing some small object.

Sadly, they've made the "Definitive Edition", so this Guide is now out of date. I wonder if they fixed the bugged achievements in the new version.... :steamsalty:

Its the one beside the abandoned farm on the way to town, not far from Almira. I have tried to get to it at all the stages! I can hit it with my machete, it just doesn't open but the machete takes blunting.

Should I try installing a different version maybe?
Deethor  [author] 3 Oct, 2023 @ 5:31pm
@MHubbs, the rosary behind Firmina's house? That should be easy to walk up to if so... I'm not sure if you can share a screenshot maybe so we can take a look?

Have you tried to access it early game vs. late game? Not sure if that would make a difference possibly.

Hey, does anyone have any advice on how to get the chest by the house?

I am having an issue where I can get to it, hit it with my machete, but it doesn't open. I have tried restarting, installing and uninstalling, restarting my computer... I honestly don't know what else to try and its my last collectible to get.
Deethor  [author] 19 May, 2023 @ 6:24pm
@garydwh2010 that's odd! Have you cut through all areas that you need to cut through with a machete? Maybe do a really good run through of the map to make sure you got them all.

Anyone have any tips for hm 01 achievement, I've completed the game twice and still haven't got this one to pop?
DDtective 24 Feb, 2023 @ 12:24pm
I got 'Vegan power' even eating meat. Simply reloading last checkpoint.
Csontzuzo 24 Feb, 2023 @ 12:16pm
and one more, because of character limits on previous comment:
Stay a while and listen: if anyone using a guide for first walkthrough then they not going to have an issue with this, but i didnt, so others might have wonder too: You need to use the first 3 bench before your grandpa dies . However, if you used the 4th and not used any other before that event, then achievement will unlock on your new save if you using the missed one, dont need to get to the 4th again.
Csontzuzo 24 Feb, 2023 @ 12:16pm
ok, well, soooo....
Vegan Power: got it on my first walkthrough, while i used the trap, got milk from cow, picked up eggs... but never ate any of those, neither milk.
Splash!: There are 10 around and you need to step on all. It doesnt need to be on a single game, thats why you earned the achievement later, but you need to step on once of each.
Dig Hunter: not totally broken in current build. I got it on current version while taking the Cassava at the village, for the second time.
Backlands' Explorer: Felt Hat is painful to get. Always the damn mill targeted, and even when you can target somehow the chest, you will use the machete, but the chest is not opened. Managed to open during my second and final walkthrough, but this was very annoying and kept trying many angles.
