Choosing your Character
To start off, you will have to choose a character.

It doesn't matter which one you choose but someone who starts off with a high damaging spell helps.

Some examples are:

Saffron - Solo
Selicy - Snow
Terra - Break
Violette - Doubletime
Shopkeeper - Money
Choosing your Spells
You will require 3 main spells for this build:

SwitchBait

Fate Shield

And any high damaging spell that you can easily acquire:

In order to do this, you will need to search for whichever spell you do not currently have from your starting kit via the deck focus area.

After any engagement, you can hit the "start" button and scroll over to the "?" under the word "Focus". From there you can choose which spell brand you want to focus on receiving from battles.

You will receive the targeted spell brand more often, but not always! So keep going at it until you have all 3 cards and start removing all the other cards from your deck whenever possible.
Upgrades
Focus on getting these upgrades for your spells:

Switchbait
Doublecast, +Mana cost
Apply Fragile on hit

Fate Shield
Doublecast, +Mana cost

Damaging Spell
Double Damage, Consume

Other upgrades are useful as well, but I've found these are the primary upgrades you should go for first.
Profit
From here, you either cast Fate Shield or Switchbait, then the other, shuffle, repeat.

If done correctly, you will hit 2000+ damage and gain 400 shield with every cycle. Just be sure not to cast your damage spell if it has the consume upgrade!
Conclusion
I hope everyone has fun with this build! I probably wasn't the first to find this out, but I thought I'd share.

Thank you Thomas Moon Kang for making such an amazing game and scratching that Mega Man Battle Network itch!

(Responding to someone who mentioned this upgrade) Piercing on fate shield is detrimental to its value, since it will continue to touch enemies and deduct 200 shield from your total. Because of this, fate shield isn't very good when it comes to upgrades.

it's a good idea to also get piercing for fate shield, that way it doesn't disappear when touching objects

When I played a lot, I typically received my kit before leaving the first area. I think I used this seed: 543658531 sword, beacon, sword, beacon, chest (didnt kill). Sorry if it isn't accurate anymore as that was a couple years ago :crashbcoot:

How often do you get this? I played a full run with both doublelift focus and barely say any doublelift cards, nevermind the switchbait

You have to cast Echo when your other slot has Ragnarok, because Echo is echoing Switchbait, and if you have Echo + Switchbait, you'll switchbait switchbait, which is 1 dmg twice.

If you cast Switchbait on Ragnarok, then reshuffle, now you have Echo and Ragnarok in hand, you cast Echo, which puts Switchbait into your hand, 50% of the time it'll switchbait Ragnarok and 50% of the time it'll switchbait switchbait. And it does happen that sometimes 1 of the two attacks is 1, and the other is the Ragnarok damage.

I tested this versus turrets in hostage situations, which give you time to calmly observe.

Well, I just tried the combo again to confirm and turns out echo actually doesn't work on switchbait at all as in the echo-ed switchbait always seems to do no damage and yeah this was after I casted ragnarok powered switchbait.
Echo is kinda alright to use until you get switchbait but after that you really should remove or add a maxhp+5 upgrade to it.

Well, Echo costs 2, so you get to do that and then shuffle, since you have mana left-over anyway :P

Also, if Echo has doublecast, it doubles the Switchbait, which also has Doublecast :D

When I'm hitting 8000+ per switchbait, I'd rather just shuffle and do my main source of dmg. That's why I opted out on taking fate shield in later builds, that and learning to dodge :P
tundranocaps 23 Apr, 2020 @ 7:24am
And if you end with Echo first, after last shuffle's switchbait, your next echo will switchbait 50/50, with 2 attacks it averages one on the actual damage spell, heh.

Ah, I see, echo on switchbait only works if you get Switchbait + real spell into echo + real spell, cause otherwise you echo the switchbait on the switchbait, which is 1 dmg :D
