Tie Fighter remastered with 3D hardware & Joystick Setup
So recently I decided to play this game again but ran into some 3D issues and no Joystick detection. There are plenty of guides out there that I followed that worked before.
After some playing around I found a solution that worked for me.
Please note this may only work for Nivida based GPU
  • Using GTX 980ti
  • Windows 10
  • Logitech Extreme Pro Joystick
Updated tested with X52 Pro Logitech HOTAs setup works

HUGE thank you to Reimar Döffinger for making the wrapper that makes this possible
Step 1 : Replace some .dll files
Download these ddraw.dll and ddraw.cfg from
https://github.com/rdoeffinger/xwa_ddraw_d3d11/releases/latest/

and extract them to
\steamapps\common\STAR WARS Tie Fighter\remastered

You will be prompted to overwrite files say yes (make backups if you want)
Step 2 :To enable Joystick
Note you can skip this step if you have a steam controller it should work straight away

Open ddraw.cfg
Find the line that says
“JoystickEmul = -1” and change to “JoystickEmul = 0”
Step 3: Enable 3D
Run the game press “esc” key and enable 3D hardware.
Play game

The choppy menu seems to effect some people, bu I myself have no had this issue, it is a very old game so sadly alot of tinkering will be needed to get thing working. Not tried a full hoats setup yet but will give it a go now that it has been mentioned. Im currently using a Logitech x 52 pro will test and see what is what.

This isn't a full proof fix. The main menu is choppy

I purchased this game back in 2018/19; I was blown away by the level of complexity that it has to offer, unfortunately, the game kinda broke and started crashing and braking the brightness levels, well I just gave up playing after finishing one of the first missions of the third battle because it was just frustrating.
fast forward a couple of years;
I pre-ordered the Star Wars Squadrons and wanted to brush up my piloting skills with the Tie family; unfortunately, the same bugs and crashes accrued but this time I managed to find a proper guide, your guide and after following it everything is fixed! I can't thank you enough for this!
Hope to see you in Squadrons!

This unfortunately did not work for me and my HOTAS Warthog. I've seen others using this setup before online, but alas no guides for it. This guide, as simple as it was, only made the menu choppy.

Any ideas?
