Reloading
First, undock your ship. You cannot be docked up while reloading your guns. Make sure you have the proper ammo in your cargo before you undock (railgun clips and guided missile packs are what most starting players will need).

Next, hit alt so that you're in cursor mode, then right-click the weapon you want to reload. It should ask you to choose ammo. If you have multiple kinds of ammo (such as regular and tracer railgun clips), you can choose between them here. Otherwise, there should be one type of ammo. Left-click it to reload. If your gun is not empty and you want to reload, use right-click. However, reloading before the gun is empty will use up an empty ammo item, so it's best to use this only if your ammo is already very low.

If you've done it successfully, you should see a red bar fill up on the weapon before it clicks and shows it has full ammo. Make sure your gun is enabled (orange background). If it isn't, reenable it by left-clicking the weapon.

Refueling
Except for the starting ships you picked on the character creation screen, all ships require fuel to make jumps through stargates and to use overdrive (spacebar). If your ship requires fuel, you'll see a fuel gauge on the left side of your hotbar.

Each jump through a stargate requires 100 fuel, and each activation and/or second of overdrive requires 1 fuel. This is not fuel the item, but the amount in your ships tank. Fuel the item is worth 50 fuel in your ship's tank, and refined fuel is worth 100 fuel.

To refuel, make sure the fuel is in your ship's cargo, then right-click it and select Refuel.

Make sure you always keep some spare fuel in your secure cargo, you never know when you might need it!
A Few Assorted Tips
  • Space skips the docking/undocking and gate jumping cutscenes.
  • [ and ] transfer shields from front to back and visa versa if they're depleted. Spam them!
  • Read the manual!
