I have tested this breakdown multiple times and unless the roof support radius of a single tile (be it a column or a solid wall) has changed, it still applies, even today.
You can confirm that the coverage of roof supports, assuming you follow the instructions included in it to the letter, are exactly as advertised, provided that your selected room size is one of the above sizes included in the table.
6 units of distance is the radius of a roof support, and your calculations are absolutely true assuming you have a rectangular room that is 12 units of distance wide and any amount of tiles long.
However, they will be wrong for a scenario where your average roof supports roofing tiles around it.
