Weapons are useful,it helps you keep the speed without getting contact with zombies,the important thing int he game is to keep a high speed,and do not go slow,or else the fuel will drain and then youll think the game is rigged,but it aint,but its still possible to complete the full story mode without the guns,but you have move the car in a way that gives you some boost jumps to avoid a few obstacles and gain some small speed boost.

guns help your car by killin zombies without making contact, so your car might still be in one piece by the time you run outta gas or get to the next checkpoint.

Agreed, I only bought the guns on the first 3 cars and didnt buy the rest and still managed to easily finish the game.
