Bishop Inventory Heads up Display

Consortium has an inventory system that can seem a little overwhelming at first, but really, it is very simple in design. The problem is no game has had an inventory system quite like Consortium's. But that is what this guide is for, to help the people new to Consortium understand the system so they can get the most out of their combat experience.

Generic Inventory


  • Body Slot: This is where your body armour goes.
  • Helmet Slot: This is where your helmet goes.
  • Generic Slots: These slots can hold a number of items (see Generic Slot Rules below).
  • P.C.U. Slot: This is where your Personal Containment Unit (P.C.U.) goes.

Generic Slot Rules:
Generic slots are attachment points on the Bishop’s back where you can physically strap items. They can hold anything small enough such a helmets, ammunition, and world items. They can also hold weapons, but two slots are used per weapon. A generic slot cannot hold any type of body armour (such as the B.U.S. or Freefall Suit) as they are simply too large and cumbersome.

Hard Point Slots

Certain types of armour have what are called Hard Point Slots for equipping what are called Hard Point Nodes, devices which run through onboard energy systems. Current technology allows for Nodes such as energy shields, inertial dampeners, and shock absorbers. Offensive Nodes also exist, though are not used by Consortium personnel.

Personal Containment Unit (P.C.U.):

You can think of the Bishop’s P.C.U. as a backpack. When objects are put into the P.C.U., space is taken up which is represented on the energy bar as Storage Energy. When the P.C.U. is completely filled with Storage Energy, no more items can be put inside. The P.C.U. also allows for the generation and storage of raw energy called Utility Energy.

Items vs Item Stacks

Some items exist on the Bishop’s HUD as singles, such as weapons, armor, hard point devices, and helmets. However, some items can exist as stacks such as ammunition.

Ammo:
Ammunition containers are capable of automatically feeding most modern 2042 weapons (such as the Kinetic Assault Rifle) at a non-stop rate of fire. Only so much ammo can be held within a single Generic Slot. On the other hand, ammo stored within the P.C.U. is only limited by its storage capacity. This means you can hold substantially larger ammo stacks within the Bishop’s P.C.U. then you can within any of his Generic Slots.
Energy Management
The backbone of a Consortium Bishop is their energy systems, all of which stem from their P.C.U. Energy is stored in one of two forms: Utility Energy or Storage Energy.



Utility Energy is the blue – Storage Energy is the yellow. Together they give you 100% capacity. The area with no energy is considered empty space. The P.C.U. holds both of these energies in the same storage space with no risk to the user. Consider Utility Energy to be the raw, unsorted energy used to power weapons and equipment. Think of Storage Energy as energy that can be re-organized back into objects such as weapons, ammo, and anything else not living.

There is a maximum amount of energy that can be stored in the Bishop’s P.C.U. When his P.C.U. becomes full, no more items or energy can be stored within.

To store items in the P.C.U., you first need to equip a P.C.U. in the correct spot within the Bishop’s inventory. When one is equipped it will then display the P.C.U.’s tools, energy bar and storage space.

Storage Energy
Drag any item or stack of items from the generic slots to the P.C.U. in order to store them as Storage Energy. When items are placed into the P.C.U., you will see the Storage Energy bar increase.

Reducing Storage Energy
To reduce storage energy, you merely remove the items from the P.C.U. which are taking up that energy. You can choose to turn the energy into Utility Energy, move the item to a generic slot, or drop the item into the world.

Utility Energy
When the player receives Utility Energy from external sources, consuming of objects in the world, or consuming of items in the inventory, the blue Utility Energy bar will increase.

Venting Utility Energy
To vent Utility Energy, select the Utility Energy (blue) section of the P.C.U.’s energy bar, then select how much energy you would like to vent, and press vent. You can alternatively press the Vent All button to vent all Utility Energy, rendering the Bishop vulnerable but capable of carrying almost anything.
Item Repairing and Recycling
To repair items which are damaged or destroyed, a P.C.U. with Utility Energy is required to power the creation of auto repairing nanites. This may sound complex but the P.C.U. does all the work for you. Take a look at the P.C.U. options on the left side of the Bishop’s inventory HUD.

Select the top option for Healing. We will get into that in the healing section below. The next option down is for Repair, and the one after that is for Recycling.

Repairing
Items which need repair are ones with a condition state less than 100%. You can see the condition of an item by hovering over it and looking at the information panel (Note: hold over the item to have its description auto-scroll).



Items in dire need of repair will have an exclamation mark flashing overtop of them. Keep an eye out for this and repair the item as soon as possible.

To repair an item, first select the repair tool (wrench) within the Bishop’s inventory, and then select the item which needs repair. The item in question will begin repairing itself automatically, and will display a flashing wrench over it (see picture). Utility Energy will of course be used over time to handle and direct the nanites in performing their tasks. When the item reaches 100%, the leech on Utility Energy will stop.



You can repair any number of items at the same time, but the more items means the more Utility Energy is drained. Make sure to keep Utility Energy levels high enough, in order to finish repair functions.

Recycling or Consuming of Items
The next one down after repair, is recycle. It works the same as the repair function, as it changes your cursor, but when you click on an item that item will be turned into Utility Energy. Be careful not to recycle useful items as this can mean life or death in combat situations.

You will find that during combat you may need more Utility Energy to fire weapons, heal yourself or repair items. This is where recycling comes in handy; as you can sometimes get that important amount of extra energy you need to turn a battle in your favour.
Body Healing and Organ Healing
The healing tool is the top most on the left side of the Bishop’s inventory HUD, the one with a cross on it. Injections of medical nanites are administered, and then controlled through a constant stream of directed Utility Energy.

Healing is a must while in combat situations. While fighting, the Bishop’s armour will take damage, and his shields may go down. When this happens, it is possible for damage to directly damage his body and/or organs. When the body is hurt, the total health percentage (red number over body) will go down. When organs are damaged, the organ indicators (left) will show up with the state of the organ, and sliders within the Bishop’s inventory will also show the state of the organ.


To heal the Bishop’s body or organs, first select the healing function of his P.C.U. (described above). Now, with the healing symbol selector, select the body to begin healing the Bishop’s body. OR you can select one of the tabs next to his body (pictured above) to heal one of his organs. Once healing has begun, the Bishop’s body or organ will begin to heal over time.



Healing body and organs costs a significant amount of Utility Energy, so make sure and keep your Utility Energy levels up while in combat.

Organs
Organs have a number of states they can be in. When not damaged they are considered Healthy. With subsequent injuries, each organ can reach a state of Injured, then Damaged, and finally Critical.

  • Injured
  • Damaged
  • Critical

If an organ is damaged to Critical, nanites can only do so much. In order to heal the Bishop past Injured from Critical, he must visit the Medical Bay to have his organ healed to Healthy again, through use of the Med Table. If an organ is damaged to Critical, and is not healed fast enough, a permanent injury could be sustained and logged on the Bishop’s permanent record.

never mind..it's H dont think that shows on the remap list though.

but how do you put away your weapons. I am on the first encounter and cannot make the guards think i am surrendering AND keep a weapon because it automatically equips any weapon held and there is no assigned key to holster.

Nice write up. :ss13ok: Wishing that there were plot and character guides for the game. It's so good, with a little more more publicity it would be more popular!

How much Utility Energy you receive from recycling and how much they cost to store as Storage Energy, is directly related to the complexity of the item in question. So "world items" would generally give you the least amount, while things like a B.U.S. or a C.E.A.R., would give you the most.

This is a terrific primer on how to manage inventory and health - although I appreciate the atmosphere and flavor of the in-game logs, too. One question: do items provide different amounts of utility energy, e.g., do weapons give more than trash items?
