So all you have to do is:

3) Find a thugs inside the town and fight them(when you find a thug (1) Press F to Talk (2) Chose/ Having a look. Do you mind? (3)Chose/ I don't take orders from the likes of you.) after killing the thugs you will have this question, (You've cleared some members of a gang off of a territory that they claim. Do you want to stay here to make sure the others don't try to take it back? (Chose/Yes)

4) After waiting for sometime, you will talk with the guy who lead this thugs(Chose/Go on i'm ready for more) then you will have another question,(The gang starts to come at you, but slowly, so you still have time to back off, do you wish to stand and confront them? Chose/Yes then Chose/ Attack) after winning the last fight your relation will increase with all the clan members who control the town (+2/+3)

No longer valid on Version 1.1.4, since they changed this part of the game, now you only gain relationship with notables in town if you clear this sites.

@Madness fun fact you can press x to switch between one and two handed mode for weapons that can do both. you can use x to switch between all modes from all weapons like meele mode for javelins or couch mode for lances or brace mode for pikes
Madness 22 Feb, 2021 @ 1:58pm
you do have to click the 2 handed icon PRIOR to combat though or your stuck with a one hander
Madness 22 Feb, 2021 @ 1:57pm
Just an add on if you craft a 2 handed sword with the ability to do both one hand/ 2 hand equip you can use it in civilian mode as a 2 hander and ramp up your 2h skills at the same time.

@Axiur it still won't be easy, but it gets the job done. Also if you need to you can always use the cheesey-AF and completely broken circle-strafing technique to easily solo most of the Thugs in any gang encounter if you're cool with that sorta thing.

The biggest protip i could give is to go to the training field from the beginning of the game and grab thw two handed sword at the melee training field, then practice parrying/chambering until you've got it down. Once you can effectively parry/chamber at least 3/4 of attacks coming at you, you'll be able to solo every thug encounter and civilian quest in the entire game. There's a guide on here with videos and written instructions on how to learn how to parry & chamber as quickly as possible using the training field, look it up.

@Axiur Go to either Battanian Lands to buy 'Woodland Garments' (second best Civilian Armor in the game), or go to Vlandian lands and buy 'Leather Scale Armor' (the best civilian armor in the game). Then make sure you have at least 12 head armor, repeat this for all of your companions. Then just try to get your people the best weapons that you can, and have everyone in Woodland Garments/Scale Leather Armor, with 12+ Head Armor, and 'Woman's Scarves' (best civvie should armor i've found so far).

I do this, then talk to the companion following me in town and talk to them, then tell them 'Go Find all my companions in the city and bring them to me'. Once your whole posse of armored dudes arrives go to the bandit locations and do the thug encounter.
