Modmanager and Configmanager
Now with a recommended and a new alternative mod manager

Before you do anything, make sure you switched to the mono-branch version of Outward (Right click on Outward in your Steam library -> Properties -> Betas -> default-mono)

Modmanager
First of all follow the instructions HERE[outward.fandom.com] or the steps below to install the "BepInEx" Mod Manager.
  1. Download the latest version of BepInEx here (x64, x86 or unix depending on your system): https://github.com/BepInEx/BepInEx/releases.
  2. Place the zip in your game installation folder, eg. for Steam and Extract here:
    ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Outward\BepInEx.zip
  3. Make sure the files look exactly like this: Outward\BepInEx\ (folder), Outward\doorstop_config.ini and Outward\winhttp.dll.
  4. Run the game from your Steam library (not directly from Outward.exe), and make sure you see a file Outward\BepInEx\LogOutput.log, this means "BepInEx" was installed correctly.
  5. Done!
Configmanager
To get some setting for the mods below, please follow the steps below. Just press "F1" ingame to open the config menu.
  1. Download the latest version of BepInEx configuration manager here: https://github.com/BepInEx/BepInEx.ConfigurationManager/releases.
  2. Place the zip in your game installation folder, eg. for Steam and Extract here:
    ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Outward\BepInEx.ConfigurationManager.zip
  3. Make sure the files look exactly like this: Outward\BepInEx\plugins\ConfigurationManager.dll
  4. Done! (you can delete the .zip file if you want)
Alternate Modmanager
You can also use this Alternativ ModManager (not tested)[outward.fandom.com]

Mods
Always install Mod 1 before all other mods, because most of the other mods depends on the mod.

1: Outward Sideloader[www.nexusmods.com]
This mod is mostly needed, to load other mods like the ones I will mention below.
  1. Download the SideLoader.zip file from the Files page
  2. Put the zip file in your Outward directory, so it looks like "Outward\SideLoader.zip"
  3. Right-click the file and Extract Here, so it merges with the folders.
  4. Done! (you can delete the .zip file if you want)

2: Shared Quest rewards[www.nexusmods.com]
Shares quest rewards (skills and items), and generates extra drops on drop tables depending on the current number of players. Only the person who want's to host a session may activate this mod. Otherwise you can't join a session.
  1. Mod1: Install the SideLoader first.
  2. Download the SharedQuestRewards.zip file from the Files page
  3. Put the zip file in your Outward directory, so it looks like "Outward\SharedQuestRewards.zip"
  4. Right-click the file and "Extract Here", so it merges with the folders.
  5. Done! (you can delete the .zip file if you want)

3: More Map Details[www.nexusmods.com]
Marks Players, Enemies, Player Bags and the Soroborean Caravanner on world maps.
  1. Mod1: Install the SideLoader first.
  2. Download the MoreMapDetails.zip file from the Files page
  3. Put the zip file in your Outward directory, so it looks like "Outward\MoreMapDetails.zip"
  4. Right-click the file and "Extract Here", so it merges with the folders.
  5. Done! (you can delete the .zip file if you want)

4: Combat HUD[www.nexusmods.com]
Status HUD timers, floating damage indicators, and more.
Note: Set "Render Scale" in your in-game graphics settings to full, or nearly full. This helps with the alignment of the HUD elements

  1. Mod1: Install the SideLoader first.
  2. Download the CombatHUD.zip file from the Files page
  3. Put the zip file in your Outward directory, so it looks like "Outward\CombatHUD.zip"
  4. Right-click the file and "Extract Here", so it merges with the folders.
  5. Done! (you can delete the .zip file if you want)

5: Multiple Quickslot Bars[www.nexusmods.com]
Adds extra quickslot bars which you can cycle through. It does not add extra slots, but instead swaps out the entire bar for alternate bars. You can configure the mod to add as many extra bars as you want, but currently you can only cycle between them one at a time (no direct hotkeys to jump to a specific bar, etc).
  1. Mod1: Install the SideLoader first.
  2. Download the MultipleQuickslotBars.zip file from the Files page
  3. Put the zip file in your Outward directory, so it looks like "Outward\MultipleQuickslotBars.zip"
  4. Right-click the file and Extract Here, so it merges with the folders.
  5. Done! (you can delete the .zip file if you want)
Troubleshooting
Mods not showing up
Then you maybe made one the following mistake
  • Install the Modmanager after you changed your game to the mono-branch
  • Update your Mods after you purchased an new Outward Addon or a patch got released
Can't join another Game with the Mods
This can occure if you and your friend both installed the "Shared Quest rewards and Loot". Only the person who is hosting a game session may enable this mod. Otherwise you can't join the session.

does this work for definitive edition too?

I assume these are worth installing for split screen co-op or are they only for online co-op?

Both backpacks should spawn nearby even if you both go down and get hauled off somewhere. If you were rescued they should be promptly at your side but if you were capture then your belongings are likely stashed in a chest nearby. Wouldn't make sense to leave your new captives with all their gear would it? (Source:Had this happen several times)

Probably something with your game files are wrong, you may have to reinstall the Game (but save your SaveGame folder before you do!!)

Was there any new update for Outward? Then maybe you have to wait until the owner of the addons update their code.
