The Wild Lands Map

One of a series of five 15 x 15 km maps I created for variety and interesting tactical challenges suitable for the 1960s - 90s era of modern warfare. I plan to release sample scenarios for each map as time permits.

This map uses elevation data from a part of southeastern Pennsylvania at the start of the Appalachian foothills, so it is hilly terrain with some plains. The vegetation, roads, buildings and so forth are idealized to make the map more useful as a military training tool. The cover is complex-- heavy brush and forest with fairly short line-of-sights. Interesting terrain that forces you to contend with lack of support by fire positions for long range ATGMs or armor... find new uses for them in close support or more distant overwatch/ambush roles. The quirky elevation changes and resulting blind spots means really having to tighten up formations, even at the platoon level, and even then unless you are very careful it is easy to walk into an ambush, or to think your dismounts are covered by direct fire weapons when they are not. This map was designed with late 70's to mid 80's formations in mind.
