Preamble

This guide is dedicated towards the developers and staff members of Brave at Night / No More Robots who work hard at the Steam forums. I somewhat got encouraged to write this by seeing the first guide is by TinyPixxels. Thank you for your hard work.

This guide does not cover explanations or walkthroughs for all achievements. My reasoning is that most achievements get activated by default simply by playing, while others are sufficiently explained in the achievements listing of the game.

I picked this title, since I consider this certain achievement - "I'm a King and a detective!" - is hardest to get. And coming up with solutions for this and that, I do kinda feel like a Queen and a detective.
After that I threw in some extras. So do not expect too much this time around!

I am wishing you fun and joy with the game - and success in getting all achievements!

Fans helping fans: I allow you to translate contents of this guide 1:1 for your own guides in other languages but English. In fairness I only ask in return to let people know this guide as source.
I'm a King and a detective!
To obtain this achievement, you have to "Find all evidence and clues for Royal Trial."

While finding the clues might be simple, finding the ones you have to ask - suspects and experts - can be a little of a hassle. You need to follow the leads and hints carefully and thoroughly. To be straightforward towards you: I came across all suspects by mere chance.

There are three items which will be needed for the achievement and come in use for the Royal Trial.

The Tooth
Finding the tooth is the easiest. Questioning the witnesses will lead you straight to the dungeon master who will hand over to you the very first evidence.

Lady Lena will be able to tell you more about the possible meaning of that item. Afterwards you need to wait a little before you can seek help of the hunter, who will join you as the story progresses.

The Letter
Have you noticed the crack in the garden? Someone abused it as a secret stash. Time to find out what lies below.

For that matter you need something thin, but not as large as a sword. Thankfully, Aurelea loves to knit. Her needles will come in handy for two achievements. You can "borrow" them from the Bed Chamber.

After retrieving the letter we can ask the general to ask around. The ornaments used gives us the needed hint, that the art acquirer Grego can tell us more about the possible origin of the letter.

The Phial
A lot of people with the forums keep asking about where and how to find the phial. I was pretty sure it cannot be missed, but for completion matter here is the guidance - starting with the message you get on the 17th week.

The message triggers a new location, which is according to the message not lasting for long. Worry not for not having your general ready in time! At the same day the witch will join your ranks, making it unmissable to fetch the phial in time!

The witch is also the one to seek out for the expert clue. Last but not least it happens that Lurs recognises the phial to be used to store Oracle Dust. All the evidence are pretty clever pointed towards the suspects at the Royal Trial.

To sum things up, here once more the details by the experts and hint givers.

With all evidence and clues gathered you can shout out "I'm a King and a detective!" at the Royal Trial!

Extras
What now follows are a few additional extras.
Some tips and hints about achievements which might be not so obvious. Enjoy!
The one I love.

The biggest difficulty about this one is - it is completely optional and it happened that at first I forgot about the gift at the same week (23), until the nightly session started to happen. It is quite a tricky one, since you cannot buy the gift but need to be creative about it.

First, you need the needle which was also used to uncover the crack in the garden. Then you grab the ball of wool in the Council Room.

Combine the needle with the wool. The last "ingredient" for the gift can be found at the castle gate. Together with the old fabric you create a simple knitting of the King & Queen with a heart between them. Cute.

That is as long as you do not think about what the old fabric could have been used before aside of covering a hole...

March, 8th is International Women's Day. Make sure the meaning matters every day.

Master of Dark Magic.

This is less a guide but a cheat sheet.
Getting the achievement itself is nothing but memorising things. That and nothing more.

The items and how to obtain them
1. You need to prepare 25 gold.

2. Bright blue mushrooms - you can find them in the castle dungeon.

3. The Herb of Grace aka Rue - locations are shown on map.
100% success for me was always the western spot, nearest to Grevno.

4. 2x Betony Oil
buy from travelling merchant

5. 1x Mugwort Oil
buy from the same travelling merchant who sold you Betony Oil

6. 2x Basilisk Egg
buy from another travelling merchant

The merchant looks like this.
(screenshot on the right)

Each item cost 5 gold. That is why you needed to ready the 25 gold for.

7. Spell Book “Performance of Rituals: Curses and Healing” by Jurko Zaremba
you just need to pick it up from the bookshelf at the council room - before the bear makes a mess

Check with the queen to make sure all items are obtained and you are ready for the ritual. You can also always consult her to have the list repeated ingame. This is, as said, just a cheat sheet.

The ritual - part I
The first part is all about chanting the phrases which you have read before in the book.
They go in this order.

1. "We beg for forgiveness for calling upon you."

2. "We ask you to give us what we desire."

3. "Let the mountain break..."

The ritual - part II
This part is where most player fail, for being impatient. That is, because the containers for the goddesses are not in an order most do expect. From left to right it would be

the child - the old woman - the young woman

Take your time and place the items in the following order

1. Put 2x Betony Oil into the container for the old woman (center)

2. Put 1x Mugwort Oil into the container for the young woman (right)

3. Put 1x Basilisk Egg into the container for the child (left)

4. Put 1x Basilisk Egg into the container for the young woman (right)

The ritual - part III - finale
This is just about memorising quickly the phrases the witch says.
You need to repeat the exact same phrases, which are these in the following order

1. Nerg va, futaos ferre!

2. For ive as tuo me!

3. Ring de chiole das er see!

And that was it. With everything done correctly, you managed to secure an heir to the throne without losing your wife and unborn son. That said, if you go for the "Mad King" achievement, then make sure to mess up the ritual as bad as possible.
Various
To give this guide a finishing - here are some less obvious hidden achievements.

I'm an... entrepreneur!
Turn the Tavern into a... Public house.
I am sure it is supposed to be "pubic house". Anyroads... invest 12G into the tavern. Later on encourage the keeper to let it be a pubic house with additional guards (+28G).

Fandustic!
Help Lord Etton with his Dust trade.

I will show him!
Confront Ivo.
At the castle gate when you find out about Lorsulia's bruises.

Whatever it takes.
Make Asalia marry Varid.

Nothing can stop love.
Let Asalia run away with Maya

Family matters.
Don't lose Aurelea or Cedani.
Bear with Cedani's agents and do not mess up the ritual and you are fine.

Thank you, old friend.
Audry takes the blame during the Royal Trial.
Deny to sentence anyone at the Royal Trial, and he will do the sacrifice.

Mad King.
Make Asalia marry Varid, let Aurelea die, kill the deserter, kill Lord Jovan, kill Beyran, kill Radovian survivors.
Strategy Tips
I am boldly assuming you are looking up this guide after your first playthrough. With that in mind, there is no need to warn you about spoilers these tips may contain. Enjoy the game!

1. Get the bank loan right away
The first loan comes without fee and is incredibly helpful to boost your financial capital. You do not want to miss out your chances to invest in citizens who give you up to 5 gold per week.

2. Invest in the inn and tavern
If you invest in the inn, you can get a weekly revenue of 1 gold per week. If you invest in the tavern, you can get at first 3 gold per week. Do not be humble about demanding that, since the tavern keeper wanted to fool you. Also do not be too greedy or the tavern might shut down and you lose all of your investment. Later on, when you allow it to turn into a pubic house, you get 4 gold weekly plus an achievement.

3. Frugal wedding
Talys will tell you very late, that he does not care for decorations and stuff at the ending. You can save a lot of money. While it may be cruel towards any woman, the dress does not matter either.

If you chose to ask Talys for additional gold for the wedding, Ivo will demand it back. You can prevent that by having just 1 gold less than the demanded 22 gold sum. One way or another, make sure to either get away with more gold after that subtraction, or at least more than 18 gold. Each less can cause troubles for you.

Tip contributed by Stranger Days in the comments: if you ask Talys for an additional general, he will instead pay the salary for your general. You hit two birds with one stone that way. a) Ivo becomes unable to demand anything back b) you get a major savings boost early. Thanks for the great tip!

4. Keep your agents busy
While it makes no sense, your agents will truly not need payment when they are underway doing missions for you. By keeping them busy you get additional savings. I usually make sure to keep one agent ready while the rest is away for 2W missions.

5. Go for gold
The possible allies do not just offer manpower to service you. They also offer weekly amounts of gold and supplies. Use this knowledge to pick your allies and the order in doing so in your economical favour.

6. What is dust?
If you go with Lord Etton, you do not only get an achievement but also more possible income. Each dust bag (7G) you buy, you can resell to Etton (11G) and making a profit of 4 gold. Plus there is another boon: you can promise Asalia to Lady Lena's son with little to none consequences.
Her son is an addict and will die by dust.

7. Choose supplies over men
Another illogical game design at this point is, that you are losing very little manpower of your army if you decide not to feed them for weeks. In my experience it turned out impossible not to have enough men ready despite you decide not to feed them - provided you did manage to secure the men in the first place.

8. Overpowered allied forces
Etton and Jovan come with additional special units which provide an incredible boost in the first battle. Etton seems to hold his special units back, but offers them right away if you turned down his offer at first. With Jovan it is all about sparing him, after he took care of Sir Frederick. It does not matter if you side with Noaksey or not in the Frederick vs. Noaksey dispute.

9. Have Audrey sacrifice himself
From the pure stance of economics, it is cheaper not to sentence any lords you allied with than to keep Audrey. If you decide to ally with Lena, Etton and Noaksey, you might not want to miss the weekly support and dust sales.

10. Please Everyone
With the default difficulty of the game, it is possible to please every petitioner when the option for gold and supplies are available. A high population contentment gives a larger weekly tax revenue.
While the tax revenue caps, it is also necessary to secure the population support for the endgame.
