Out of Memory Error Fix

This guide is to assist you overcome that nagging little issue of the game crashing due to "running out of memory". This generally occurs while larger armies in the late game face off, but that isn't always the case, and can happen at any time a large army is being used, or a large quantity of colonies are sitting on the map at any one time.

I will not be using pictures on the first iteration of this guide, however if they are requested, I will add them to assist in finding what you need.

Correcting the Memory Issue

This is the only thing you MUST do to fix the memory error, I have tested this, so it does indeed work. At the very least it does work for me.

1. You must go to the Steam games directory, if you didn't change where this is, it will be in the C: drive -> Program Files x86 (but not always so check Program Files too) -> Steam.

2. Once you have accessed the Steam directory, you must find the Conquest of the New World directory.

Go into SteamApps -> Common -> Conquest of the New World

3. From here you need to edit the "dosboxConquest" CONF file. Right click that file and hit open. You can use WordPad to edit the file.

NOTE: NotePad will also work, HOWEVER, it will look like a jumbled mess and finding what you need will be a pain in the ass, I DO NOT RECOMMEND using it!

4. Now that WordPad is open, you may get overwhelmed by the amount of information, don't be, a lot of is explaining what everything does if it is preceded by a # symbol. You have to find the [dosbox] portion of the coding.

5. Under the [dosbox] portion, you will see "memsize" it is 16 by default (this is read in mb) change that to either 32 or 64 depending on your preference. Once you have done that, simply go to "File" in the top right corner and click it, go then click "Save"

6. Exit out WordPad, and boom you're good to go! Enjoy CNW!

I do hope this works for you, if not, you can also try editing the aforementioned files to get rid of fullscreen, and find a resolution that works for you, which has to manually typed in. Good luck ladies and gents, and stay salty!
