Referal System (aka cashing in on your friends)
Used to be for each purchase seperately but nowadays its ONLY on new account creation. A NEW ACCOUNT, existing ones cannot refer anybody sadly. You also used to get 10% of Eagles they buy but its also gone now.

Note: Your referal link is INSIDE the game client, Menu > right row> 9th place> invite friend
Then he makes an account with the link that was given to you, nuff said.

Anyway here is the official explanation.
https://warthunder.com/en/game/invite-friend
What can you get beside the planes
First of all, there are two ways of buying Premium stuff, its either GOLDEN EAGLES or BUNDLES.

GOLDEN EAGLES: This is your IRL money currency. You start with 40 of these and get 200 for tutorial,so you get 240 for free (or 290 if you used a refferal when making the account). If you want to buy something you should start here.

Prices with links are as following(they add a small tax when you purchase,so its a little higher. For instance, 49$ will be around 51$)
Europe pays abouta 20-25% more due to Income Tax or such,so unless youre in Russia/US (or appear to be),take that into account. Starting from 5k Eagles, offers arent that much different in prices.
NOTE: Links here are simply links from the game itself and are not advertising or selling content.
No refferals either.

500 EAGLES (for 3$) http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?id=3172
1000 EAGLES (for 6$) http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?id=3173
2500 EAGLES (for 14$,7% off) http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?id=3746
5000 EAGLES (for 25$,17% off) http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?id=3215
10k EAGLES (for 49$,18% off) http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?id=3748
15k EAGLES (for 72$,20% off) http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?id=3754
25k EAGLES (for 115$,25% off) http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?id=3170

For these you can get (note, everything you buy for Eagles is inside the game client):

SILVER LIONS (ingame currency that handles everything you do,and repairs planes. Not really worth it,skip it.)

TALISMANS (gives permanent +100% EXP bonus for the plane you bought it for, price of it depends on the rank of the plane. This will also allow you to keep using your favorite planes past the maxed EXP (maxed planes give only 20% exp),as you will get 20% from the plane, plus 20% from talisman + 40% from Premium account, allowing you to get 80% of standard EXP or such in battles (might not be 300%, but at least it aint 20%).

PREMIUM PLANES (you buy one of planes you cant normally get, it has permanent double the standard Rewards, +100% experience bonus and 30(instead of 10) free repairs with all the upgrades on the start. Also they can be MUCH cheaper to repair then standard ones. You wil most likely spend your dosh on couple of these.)

ADDITIONAL CREWS (you can get up to 5 crews per nation for free .each crew means another plane spot you can use for Arcade. More Crew spots cost 200/500/1200/1800 Golden Eagles each.)

ACCELERATED CREW TRAINING (every crew gets EXP when you use em, and you use that to improve their skills. For low costs you can save hundreds of hours of grinding for them. Also, at 200-300 skill levels (every point in skill is one level) you can specialize crew for specific planes with standard currency (Silver Lions)). If you play the game for a long time you will probably cap your crew out when you get to higher ranks.

BACKUP PLANES: You can get this upgrade for any plane and it gives you second one to fly after you die for ARCADE ONLY.
Price is so low due to having to spend EAGLES every time you get shot down. I really dont see the point of it.
So if you want to spend 40-200 Eagles every time your baby gets shot down in Arcade and you take it for a spin again, go ahead. Its only for Arcade anyways.

ACE TRAINING (as you spend EXP on crew they get levels. When you get enough levels, depending on a Rank of a plane, you can spend LIONS for Expert Training (200-300 crew levels). It will add +30 to Keen Vision,Visibility,Turret Accuracy and Precision,Repair and Reload Speeds. You can further train your crew even more WITH EAGLES at very high crew levels (460-600 crew levels), you will get +50 in total for the same statistics. it is added on top of normal skill levels, so for instance you can have 50 turret precision from skills + 50 from Ace training making it a 100 total. WHEN YOU TRAIN CREW IT ONLY APPLIES TO THAT VERSION OF PLANE AND ONLY TO THAT CREW. DIFFERENT PLANES OF SAME MODEL DONT SHARE THIS (like, every Spaviero is a separate training), SO YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY TRAINING FOR THEM SEPARATELY. In my opinion, unless its a Big Ass B-17-like Bomber, dont bother with Ace training, as expert one will suffice and difference is more or less negligible.)

PLANE UPGRADES: Basically you get a busted plane on start and you need to fly it for a while to get upgrades for it to bring it back to peak performance. Or you could bust out some EAGLES and get em on start. Later planes are more impacted by upgrades, and the price will rise up to 500 eagles. Just fly a plane for day or two and you will have upgrades, dont bother.

Skins/Decals: Planes have skins that require ALOT of work to be obtained for free, except some early ones.
You can either get em by hand or pay 200 Eagles per skin. Skins/Decals are cosmetics, they wont affect performance of the plane in ANY way. Some decals are restricted to specific nations.

PLANE RESEARCH CONVERSION (You can spend Eagles to get experience research points for a specific Nations plane, so you dont have to grind for it.)

PREMIUM ACCOUNT: You can buy Premium Days with Golden Eagles.
With premium account you get:
+100%(so its 200%,DOUBLE) Research Points
+50% extra (Total 150%) Silver Lions
Extra Dynamic Campaign/Singleplayer Mission rewards per day (think of it as Daily mission cap. You dont earn much from them even with a premium)
2 more Decals (cosmetics on your plane),so you get 4 Decals per plane in total. When Premium runs out, third and fourth decals wont show up anymore.
Ability to make 4 man squads (non-premium can only make 2-man squads, BUT this isnt implemented yet)
Price of Premium Account is:
100 Eagles for 1 day (0,6$)
650 Eagles for a week (4,5$,7% off)
1250 Eagles for 15 days (7$,17% off)
2000 Eagles for ONE month (12$,33% off )
5000 Eagles for 3 months (25$,44% off)
15200 Eagles for a year (72$+ 2$ Jewgolds ,58% off)
IF YOU WANT TO BE A PREMIUM EITHER BUY IT PER DAY OR IN A BULK.

MAKING CLANS (Squadrons): One Clan, 2500 EAGLES. You get leaderboards spot, a tag a motto and a private chatroom.
Nuff said.
1.37 and matchmaking/tiering change
So the old system of 20 tiers is kaput.
It used to be like this:
3-4 close tiers would get same games (at best. mostly it bugged out)
Well its gone now!

So we are stuck with eras.
There are 5 eras (ranks) and you research one plane at a time now...supposedly it cuts grinding if youre aiming for a specific planefu on the board....on the other hand going for ALL the planes is really increased by alot. Also XP conversion took a big hit and now its quite....inneficient.

So how does the matchmaking works? Well it has nothing to to with rank of the plane!
The real deal is.....BATTLE RATING stat!
Every plane has one. You can see it right beneath is Rank.
And you will fight against the planes that are close to your Battle Rating.
Also the better you fly the more game will hate you and pit you against harder opponents.

http://warthunder.com/en/news/376-Matchmaking-in-137-en

Not sure about the scope of it though...probably planes up to around 1-1.5 Battle Rating above and beneath you count for matchmaking purposes.
For instance while flying He 112 A-0 (with rating 2.0) i met P-38 (with 3.3 rating) and bunch of early Rank 2 planes.
Tanks, Open Beta and Loadsa Money

Tonks are finally here! Took them long enough now, didnt it?

Note: in Realistic Battles trajectory/penetration reticule (that little X) is GONE
You can see tank models at any distance even if you don't see their names or types.
Terrain does block proper spotting but vegetation DOESN'T block it for now.
Also Realistic Battles offers no multiculturalism - one team, one nation, no exceptions.

Note: Many German tanks have no camo and horribly stick out. Luckily some asian fella made a makeshift camo with a decal.

Tanks you buy for Golden Eagles - Short Edition
Germans

Pz.Kpfw. II DAK (Rank 1, 1.0 Battle Rating, 250 EAGLES, 60% Rewards, 50% research bonus) - This is a premium reserve tank. This means you take a piece of junk, glaze it with reward bonuses and sell it for dosh. Protip: Its still junk. Also desert camo means you stick out like a sore thumb in all the grass.

Panzer III Ausf. N (Rank 2, 3.0 Battle Rating, 1000 EAGLES, 200% rewards, 148% research bonus) -standard German medium tank. When compared to the III L variant you get Schürzen side-armor panels (for extra protection, they can be blown off with a shot or two) and low penetrating stubby gun that forces you to use HEAT. And that means that little gun also has low velocity which means long range combat is out of the questions. Panzer IV F.2 has the same rating and an amazing gun, pop a talisman on it instead.

8.8 cm Pak 43/3 auf Panzerjager Panther Jagdpanther (Rank IV, 6.0 Battle Rating, 6090 EAGLES,280% rewards, 256% research bonus) - its a command variant of the same non-premium tank destroyer based on the Tiger chassis which means a great gun. BUUUUT its armor is still what, 80mm up front like the normal Tier 3 TDs you have. And it gets ONE respawn. ONE.
So instead of getting this thing you should get a Kingtiger since it has greatly superiour armor while retaining same 88mm firepower.

USSR

T-26 1st GvTBR (Rank 1, 1.0 Battle Rating, 250 EAGLES, 60% Rewards, 50% research bonus)-
Premium T-26 reserve. Same story as German reserve but at least T-26 has a good gun. Winter camo makes you stick out ANYWHERE. Not worth it at all.

T-34-57 mod 43 (Rank III, 4.0 Battle Rating, 1600 EAGLES, 240% rewards, 196% research bonus) - compared to standard T-34-57 you get extra high velocity ACPR shell, slightly higher turret armor and extra 0.3 Battle Rating which is...quite good actually. Compared to standard T-34 version its actually a decent investement. You are still stuck with relatively thin (but sloped) armor like any other T-34 (get used to blowing up if you rush) and you can run into caliber issues (which you can partially fix with ACPR) but you get good mobility and speed. Later on you should switch to T-34-85(D-5T) because it has a superior cannon. So basically yeah,i would recommend this one.

SU-122P (Rank IV, 6.0 Battle Rating, 6090 EAGLES, 280% rewards, 256% research bonus)
This is Su-122 with Su-100 armor. Its overpriced and while having awesome gun (HE included with great velocity) it has poor armor. Really poor armor. No artillery. So its a TD and a glass cannon. Also quite pricey. But hey, killing 3 people with HE shell at the same time is priceless, no? It also has TWO respawns (this is very important). Also SU-100 is superior because it has both much superior reload time AND better penetration (yes thats right, you unlock BR-412D shell which is superior to anything 122 can dish out) while still having two respawns.
Tank Packs
Lets see....I will keep it short.

Combined Wallet Forces packs

War Thunder - Starter Pack - SdKfz 140/1 and T-26E (Tier-1) -10$

SdKfz 140/1 Aufklarungspanzer 38(t) (Rank 1, 1.3 Battle Rating, 400 EAGLES, 80% Rewards, 100% research bonus) - this is a reconnaissance tank based on Czech Panzer 38(t). Compared to reserve tank you basically get slightly thicker armor while retaining the same 20mm gun (that has troubles to penetrate most things), increase in Battle Rating (which means even less things to penetrate) and non-enclosed turret. Also 2 instead of 3 respawns. Novelty vehicle.

T-26E (Rank I, 1.3 Battle Rating, 400 EAGLES, 80% rewards, 100% research bonus) - reserve T-26 with beefed up armor. T-26 is a crappy tank with a good gun (for its tier) so now you have uptiered crappy tank with more armor and a good gun. Its slow, bulky and T-70 is simply a much better tank at the same Battle Rating.

http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?title=War-Thunder_Starter-Pack_SdKfz-140%2F1-T-26E

USSR packs

T-34 Prototype (2.7 BR) -exacly the same in EVERYTHING as first tier II T-34, matchmaking included. YES, BATTLE RATING (2.7) IS THE SAME. Because its Tier 1 you get major penalties when researching above second tier. Fast, agile with good armor (against german low velocity guns) and an okay gun. Used to have 2.3 Battle rating but nowadays there is no reason for not using later versions of T-34. German Panzer IV F2 destroys you with a shot or two if you meet them.
Put a talisman on T-34 1941 instead.
http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?title=War-Thunder_Starter-Pack_T-34-Prototype NO LONGER SOLD

T-34 (1st Gv.T.Br.) (2.7 BR- 10$) -same as normal T-34 1941 but with extra tacky paintjob that makes sure its IMPOSSIBLE to hide just about anywhere. Put a talisman on standard 1941 version instead.

http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?title=War-Thunder_Guards-Starter-Pack-4

T-34E (Shielded version-3.3 BR- 26$) - same tiering as T-34 1942 but its uparmored on the sides. No extra armor on the front and 7mm less on the frontal turret when compared to standard so you get wrecked by Panzer IV F2s anyway. Passable premium but nothing fancy.

http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?title=War-Thunder_Shielded-T-34E_Advanced-Pack

KV-1E (3.7 BR -18$) - this is USSR KV-1 heavy tank version with extra armor and extra 1 Battle Rating on top of it. Basically it should be considered a Tier 3 tank which which means its both grossly overtiered and you get penalties for researching above third tier with it. KV-85 (which is 4.0 BR) has superior gun, about the same armor and a better profile (its turret doesnt stick out) and its not a premium. So....yeah.

http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?title=War-Thunder_Shielded-KV-1E-Starter-Pack

KV-1B (3.7 BR)- KV-1E version for special MSI snowflakes from the motherland.
http://yournewsticker.com/2014/06/game-bonuses-war-thunder-complete-motherboards-msi-9-series.html

German packs

M4A2 Sherman (3.7 BR) - used to be OP, now its decent for its uptiered/nerfed status. Good all around tank with good frontal armor and a good gun with great firerate. On the other hand Panzer IV F2 has a better gun (but worse armor) and i would rather put a talisman on that one for much lower price. Also they nerfed frontal armor lately by lowering it and adding a weak spot.

http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?title=War-Thunder_Starter-Pack_M4A2-Sherman NO LONGER SOLD

Nibelungenwerke Panzer IV/70(A) (4.3 BR- 18$)- earlier version of standard Panzer IV/70 you can get ingame. You get 0.4 BR less in exchange for having more flat frontal armor because of earlier design (same thickness though) and fancy fence sideskirts (either cosmetic or they perform worse). Standard IV/70 has good gun and eats frontal shots for breakfast so you should expect same performance from this one too. 2 Spawns. So yeah...its a decent pack BUT standard tank is superior.

Ground attack aircraft premiums (IL2,Hs 129 and Lagg-3-34) and why bombers are better
All these 3 Premiums are gift planes and deserve a special section because they were released to suplement tanks in mixed battles and there is too not much to be said about them.

When compared to bombers fielding cannons for ground attack is inferior to bombs for multiple reasons:
1. You have to get really close and at specific angle to succesfully penetrate a tank
2. Forced to pick 1 target at a time instead of having area of effect explosives
3. If you have low end PC you might end up with massive framerate drop during a dive in mixed battles due to ground having beefed up visuals for tank users (you can stay up high and hopefully bomb instead)
4. In Simulator Battles you are stuck with a joystick, cockpit view and no target markers which means your job 10 times as hard - bombers can use bomb sights to see targets
Note: You are able to fight as an underpowered fighter to and attack bombers in the spare time so there is at least that.

Lag-3-34 (BR 2.7 - 10$) - this is a TD lag with NS-37 cannon. Due to heavy cannon it has reduced performance compared to same tier Lagg-3-66. Luckily you still get Air Targets ammo belt for NS-37 but compared to 9T (non-premium) you get nearly 2/3 ammo less for 1.3 BR difference and performance drop. It is also the only Lagg that has G lock (your controls stiffen in high G turns).
So yeah...below average plane but at least it can work as a Fighter to an extent.

http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?title=War-Thunder_LaGG-3-34-Starter-Pack

IL-2M (BR 3.7-18$) - same as standard IL-2M. Its slow, has much worse (and much more realistic) flight model when compared to IL-2 (the one with no rear gunner). You shouldnt count on rear gunner saving your hide either. You do get rockets and bombs but rockets can be inefficient/tricky to work with and bombs are too light. Frontal guns will rip anything in air and slightly damage tanks (they used to destroy Light Pillboxes but it got fixed).

http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?title=War-Thunder_IL-2-Avenger-Starter-Pack-4

Hs 129B-2 (BR 4.0-18$) - same as standard German 129 B-2 heavily armored attack aircraft. As any 129 it is EXTREMELY underpowered, its engines barely keep you in air and plane flies like its knee deep in mud. If a fighter spots you, you are more or less at his mercy. Since this is a B-2 model you only get 30mm cannon to deal with tanks, while non-premium Hs 129 B-3 (same 4.0 BR) gets 75mm of glory.

Premium Planes, General info
PREMIUM PLANES. Every Premium plane has greatly reduced repair costs, free Talisman (although you cant place second one) and Double the reward bonuses (Cap for Reward bonuses is 500% on em). They also DONT HAVE EXPERIENCE LIMIT ANYMORE. So there is no reason not to fly them constantly anymore. Also there is no research penalty on ANY tier lower then you.
Tier III premium can research anything from I-IV (instead of II-IV non-premium can).
That mean tier IV premiums can research ANY tier in the game with no penalty.

WARNING!WARNING FELLOW PILOTS! READ BELOW!
VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!: For now,if you buy a Premium plane or a Bundle, you can put that plane in a crew slot, even if you dont have a sufficient Rank for it. So for instance, you could use Rank 4 Dora from the first level if you wanted to. It will put you against more experienced players though.

NOTE: All bonuses and performance recollections here are listed for Historical Battles.
HISTORICAL. NOT ARCADE. In >arcade you might as well count planes REALLY close to each other peformance wise on similar tiers.

ENTRY LEVEL PREMIUMS:
Its basically your standard Tier one Biplane with a fancy skin, you get one for winning for the first time for free, rest are 250 shekels each. Most people take Zhukovsky's Chaika because its probably the best of the bunch.
USA — Thach's F2A-1 Buffalo;
Germany — Marcolin's CR.42CN;
USSR — Zhukovsky's I-153-M62;
Britain — Tuck's Gladiator Mk.II;
Note: This Gladiator also had a free code in PC Gamer UK, December 2013 Issue and was redeemable until 31st December.
Japan — Hagiri's A5M4.
USA
USA:

Ki-61-Ib (RANK 2, Battle Rating 2.7, 700 EAGLES, 260% Rewards, 124% research bonus) ; This is a captured Japanese Ki-61; It is exactly the same as the standard one except 0.7 BR lower;
-good Battle Rating (0.6 less than standard one)
-good flight performance at its tier
-decent rewards
-Fast, Agile, great diving speed (750), decent Climb
-crappy Japanese 4x50.cal guns that lack a punch

A6M2 (RANK 2, Battle Rating 3.3, 1150 EAGLES, 380% Rewards, 160% research bonus ); This is a captured Japanese A6M2; It is exactly the same as the standard model. ; It excels at dogfights and to a degree; Energy fighting. You might choose this for some dog-fighting in your Americans, And as it has cannons they might add some fun to the mix. Its one of the better planes for low tiers.

-good climb
-decent dive
-issues with speed (many things can run away from you)
-great turner
-good armaments, low ammo
-quite fun to fly (Ki-61b is probably better though)
-Spitfires are probably better

XP-55 Ascender (Rank 2, 4.0 Battle Rating, 3900 EAGLES, 400% Rewards, 180% research bonus); This is unrefined/canceled Canard Design fighter prototype.
-good rewards
-okay climb
-nearly unbreakable in a dive with good speed
-turns like a dream
-good armaments
-good speed
-big OH GOD HIT ME HERE PLEASE area in the back
-looks cool
-OVERPRICED
-Its actually tiered as a rank 3 plane (exacly same as bf 109 G-2)

BF-109 F-4 (RANK 3, 3.7 Battle Rating, 1450 EAGLES, 420% Rewards, 184% research bonus); This is a captured German BF-109 F-4; It is exactly the same as the standard model except uptiered to F-4/trop. ; It excels at energy fighting, and to a degree Dogfighting.
-good rewards
-good climb (although nerfed)
-decently good turner (not as good as Spitfires,)
-great for diving and Energy Fighting, responsive at high speeds
-good armaments, good ammo, nose cannon
-good for vertical maneuvers
-ammo counters in cockpit
-no 2x20mm wing gunpods, unlike German 109s
-had its share of nerfs that neutered it

BTD-1 Destroyer (RANK 3, 4.3 Battle Rating, 1600 EAGLES, 500% Rewards, 196% research bonus); This is advanced USA divebomber that had limited amount of planes produced;
-good rewards
-turns well but loses speed very fast
-starts up in the air on most maps
-climbs surprisingly well
-dives well BUT has low top speed attainable in it
-slow to decent cruise speed
-good armaments, plenty of ammo
-TWO torpedoes, drops them at same time
-good visibility in cockpit for FRB
-no rear gunner
-sexy airbrakes
-treat it as Ju 87 on steroids

Grumman XP-50 (Rank 2, 4.7 Battle Rating, 1150 EAGLES, 500% Rewards, 160% research bonus); This is a canceled Twin Engine Heavy Interceptor made by USA in 1941 from XF5F Skyrocket.
-Great rewards
-its 3.3 battle rating FIXED to 4.7
-AMAZING climb
-good speed
-great in diving
-decent at turning
-low ammo
-looks interesting
-still damn good even at 4.7 rating

XF5F Skyrocket (RANK 3, 4.3 Battle Rating, EVENT GIFT, 500% Rewards, 208% research bonus); This is the daddy of XP-50, there was an event to obtain it, you cannot get it anymore (for now). At the moment performance wise...its terrible. It used to fly like and underpowered brick but it has been buffed to mediocrity right now while being downtiered by 0.4. Sadly its still mediocre performer and quite undergunned. Real disappointment.

At least they gave it a Blackhawks-like camo.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackhawk_(DC_Comics)

Spit Mk.9 (RANK 4, 5.3 Battle Ratiing, 2200 EAGLES, 500% Rewards, 232% research bonus); This is a Lend-lease Spitfire; It is exactly the same as the standard latewar model Britbongs have.
-good rewards
-150 octane fuel makes it climb like a jet until 5k
-decent in a dive
-good speed
-AMAZING turner (not as good as Japanese)
-good guns, good ammo
-decent for Energy Fighting, excels as a dogfighter
-can research ANY tier
-Overpowered as HELL, removed then reintroduced and now its Fotm AGAIN
-other people will take a peek at your logbook and ridicule you for flying such OP plane

A-26C-45 INVADER (Rank 4, 6.0 Battle Rating, PROMOTIONAL ,360% Rewards, 78% research bonus);this was a promotional plane for Russian Gaming Laptop. And promotion is over. Then, some German Magazine gave away bunch of codes, but this is over too. So unless you persuade someone to give or sell you a key, you cant obtain this plane.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6f7MH3BLaek
Performance: On paper amazing Ground Attacker, good armaments, good bombs, good turret coverage. You also can both bomb like a bomber and shoot like a P-47 on ground targets.
Problem: overtiered to Battle Rating 6.0 which is horrifying and gimped performance compared to A-20. (you fight versus D-13s, G-10s, Shidens and the rest of nasty high end planes)
Germany
GERMANY:

He.112 B-1 (RANK 1, Battle Rating 2.7) 550 EAGLES , 120% Rewards, 112% research bonus); This is a Modified He.112 B-0 and has slightly improved performance. It is a good dog-fighter and has a good selection of guns as long as you move horizontally. It is quite slow though. WARNING:due to prewar design, plane cannot dive properly and if you gain alot of speed becomes stiff and hard to control.
-low rewards
-slow (got a buff nerfed again)
-decent climb
-damn good turner
-can actually dive very well but you wont be able to keep 700+ speed for long
-good firepower, low ammo
-matchmaking can REALLY ruin your day
-0.7 HIGHER Battle Rating compared to standard B-0 version so its overtiered to hell and back right now

Wellington Mk.1c (RANK 2, Battle Rating 3.3, 1150 EAGLES, 500% Rewards, 160% research bonus); This is a Captured British Welli; It is exactly the same as the standard model but with no 4000lb bombs. ; It differs from German bombers as it is fairly large, has a different style of payload, and different defensive turrets; You might get this because you want a 'larger' model bomber with a slightly larger payload. Note:this is Mark 1 Wellington design,so you dont get improved gunners of later designs. Many people call it "the money maker" because 500% rewards+ bomber bonus is very profitable for destroying ground targets in Historicals. Fixing the 37mm guns made its life quite...hazardous now.
Note: all bombs behave oddly against tanks, mostly they dont work

P-47D (RANK 3, Battle Rating 3.7, 1300 EAGLES , 500% Rewards, 172% research bonus); This is a captured American P-47; It is exactly the same as the standard model except it does not get any rockets or bombs.
-GREAT rewards
-decent climb
-decent speed
-great in a dive
-good at turning to an extent
-performance scales up VERY nicely at high altitude
-good firepower, plenty of ammunition
-good energy retention
-can WEP for very long time
-starts mid-air on some maps
-Spit IXs outclimb you EVEN when you start in air
-no bombs/rockets unlike USA version

La-5FN (RANK 3, 4.0 Battle Rating, UP FROM 1750 EAGLES TO 5250 EAGLES ,440% Rewards, 184% research bonus); This is a captured Russian La-5FN; It is exactly the same as the standard model except it does not get any bombs. ; It excels at Dog fighting, and can be used to a great degree for energy fighting UNLESS you break it; A hybrid. You might choose this because it is fast; dives well and Has a fairly good set of forward guns... Be careful on ammo though, you have a little less then needed and plane chews it down quite fast. Also it breaks after 650 km/h in a dive. After its feature on Ancient Aliens on History Channel, it has been nerfed, then buffed again then renerfed back. Also, its VERY pricey now to obtain it...skip it.
USSR planes (Part 1)
RUSSIANS!

PBY-5a Catalina (RANK 1, 2.0 Battle Rating, 880 EAGLES, 480% Rewards, 112% research bonus); This is a Lend-lease American Flying boat; Exactly the same as the USA one.
-big clunky slooooow flying boat
-AMAZING rewards for tier 1
-decent payload
-sturdy
-decent gunners BUT plenty of deadzones where you cannot defend yourself, end of tail included
-so slooow it will likely get shot down before it reaches ground targets

TB-3M-17-32 (RANK 1, 2.0 Battle Rating, EVENT GIFT, 320% rewards, 112% research bonus)l
This is USSR interwar heavy bomber that was given during an event. Unless you did the event its unobtainable right now.
-its even SLOWER compared to Catalina
-enormous plane that will attract alot of attention
-5 peashooter turrets with AMAZING coverage against anything above the plane
-its still peashooters (theyre not particulary damaging and it takes a while to kill anybody) and defenses from beneath the plane are meh
-bad AI for gunners (they cannot freely do a 360 degree circle like theyre supposed to)
-slow turning gunners
-quite sturdy (unless you randomly catch fire)
-GIGANTIC payload: up to 3 tons (you need 4 tons to take out enemy airfield)
Note: if you go for ground targets take 24x100 kilos because theyre in the bomb bay and you can drop them one each
-payloads above 12x100 kilos drop 2 bombs at a time
-you need two TB-3s to take out an airfield
-it will take FOREVER to reach enemy airfield/ground targets

Lagg-3-23 (RANK 1, 2.0 Battle Rating, SPECIAL plane, 220% rewards, 6% research bonus);
A Russian magazine had a code for this plane (and a special decal) in December 2013 issue if you bought a physical copy of it. It has two skins and it is exacly the same as standard Lagg-3-11 and has no premium plane bonus.
http://www.igromania.ru/news/221652/Igromaniya_12014_uzhe_v_prodazhe.htm

P-40E-1 (RANK 2, 2.3 Battle Rating, 700 EAGLES, 280% Rewards, 124% research bonus); This is a Lend-lease American Fighter; Exactly the same as the normal one BUUUT it kept its tier 4 (USA one is tier 5 now).
-good rewards
-decent climb
-good top speed
-GREAT diving speed
-good turners
-good guns, good ammunition
-you will fight many P-40s Americans have on the other side
-for some reason can ram damaged planes and survive with black wing
-only 2.3 Battle Rating (compared to USA 2.7)

I-153P Chaika (RANK 2, 3. Battle Rating, 950 EAGLES, 200% Rewards, 136% research bonus); This is a modified I-153, it changes the machineguns for cannons and gets rockets and bombs. Tier 2 so you meet alot of stuff. Fun for stomping higher tier aircraft. No flaps. Very fragile if you get hit. Climbs like a rocket. Rewards are decent. Glass cannon.

P-39K-1 (RANK 2, 3.0 Battle Rating, 1000 EAGLES , 340% Rewards, 148% research bonus); This is a Lend-lease American Fighter; Exactly the same as the normal one. It excels at energy fighting/it is mostly an Interceptor plane. You might choose this because it is Hits hard (if hit registers), has accurate guns, dives quickly, turns kinda well and has that nice 37mm cannon. It is from first batch of them though,so it got weird gun composition on it (4x7.62mm /2x50cal/ 37mm cannon). Battle Rating for tiering reduced by 0.3 compared to USA variants. Also quite low ammo for HB.

I-16 type 28 (RANK 2, 3.7 Battle Rating, 1350 EAGLES, 360% Rewards, 160% research bonus); This is a modified I-16, it changes 2 of the Machine guns for cannons and gets rockets and bombs. Fun for stomping high tier aircraft. It does turn a bit slower. Only Landing Flaps. Very fragile if you get hit, glass cannon at its tier. Premium Chaika is probably a better choice.
You can also get non-premium cannon Ishak nowadays so its kinda a waste.

P-39-0 (SU) (RANK 3, 3.3 Battle Rating, 1300 EAGLES/RESTRICTED , 440% Rewards, 172% research bonus); This is a Lend-lease American Fighter modified by USSR that you can buy only buy during Defender of the Fatherland Day Celebration (23-25th February) or some other random Russian holidays ; Russians removed both 12.7mm guns from the wings, and added copious amounts of Bravery and Vodka. It excels at both Energy Fighting and Dog Fighting, its better a bit in all flight aspects then standard one ,mainly speed and turn rates due to reduced weight. It has even LOWER ammo then standard one so for HBs you will be parched for ammo constantly. Right now it does amazing loops and i would rather recommend to get it if you catch it on sale. USSR P-63 is better. Its also has quite good Battle Rating.

B-25J-30 (RANK 3, 4.0 Battle Rating, 1450 EAGLES, 500% Rewards, 184% research bonus); This is a Lend-lease Mmurican Medium bomber; Exactly the same as the normal USA tier 9 one;
-HUMONGOUS rewards (500% Plus 30% on top of it for ground targets)
-bulky and slow
-unagile (its a bomber after all)
-nerfed from flying fridge to flying brick
-yes, a flying brick. you have been warned
-very good defensive gun coverage
-decent payload with a bomb bay (so you can drop bombs one each and bombs wont reduce your performance as much)
-AMAZING frontal weaponry for such plane. After spending the bombs on tanks and pillboxes you can actually go for softer targets and rack the dosh
-fragile
-80% of time 3-4 Germans will go for you on sight (because they consider you free food)
-paintjob looks great
-Its a Russian version of German Premium Wellington. You die alot but make mountains of money. Bombing tanks is really weird/ineffective right now.

P-63 A-5 (RANK 3, 3.7 Battle Rating, 1600 EAGLES , 500% Rewards, 196% research bonus); This is a Lend-lease American Fighter, given to USSR because USA didnt like it, made for low altitude combat;
-good rewards
-climbs decently
-doesnt look like a banana
-good at turning, good at loops
-good dive
-good firepower
-low ammo
-USA gets much better version, the A-10

P-63 A-10 (RANK 4, 5.3 Battle Rating, EVENT PLANE, 500% Rewards, 232% research bonus);
This is the superior USA version of A-5 that was obtainable from January 31st to 3rd February for completing a special event. http://warthunder.com/en/news/434-Sky-Duels-13-Aerial-Vipers-en
It is an amazing plane that has been uptiered ALOT. Funnily its so good that even at this tiering people complain about it.
-good rewards
-good climb
-similar skin to A-10
-even better in loops, good for turning
-good dive
-good firepower
-nearly DOUBLE ammo
-grapefruit velocity on the 37mm cannon shells (PLEASE don't go into headons)
-0.6 Battle Rating increase compared to USA A-10
-even slightly improved USA P-63 C-5 is lower tier compared to this one
-still pretty good at its tiering
Protip: if you want to fly any plane with 37mm M10 cannon, make sure you learn the shell velocity or you wont hit anything. Getting 400 meters or less behind the target is quite beneficial because 1 direct hit will either blow up or cripple any fighter in the game. So take it close, take it slow and make it count.

Tu-2 (RANK 3, 4.0 Battle Rating, REWARD for buying a BUNDLE below, no Prem plane bonuses); This is Russian Heavy Fighter-Bomber. Its 5 Ranks lower then standard one, 7 times cheaper to repair, but you get significantly lower payload. For arcade its ok,for Historicals, youre bit sluggish, albeit quite fast and with good firepower. Just look at it as a small bonus for getting a bundle.
Edit: Senio pls
USSR Planes - Part 2 (they really like Sovoks, don't they)
USSR Spit IX (RANK 4, 4.7 Battle Rating, 6300 Eagles Limited time offer plane, 500% rewards, 232$ reasearch bonus) - USSR fielded around a thousand non 150 octane Spits that were lend leased to them. They were mostly used for home defence because Russians kept mistaking them for German planes and teamkilling em. For some reason this thing flies like it HAS 150 Octane which is idiotic. It was being sold for 6 days and now its gone. Anyway:
-good rewards
-ONLY 4.7 BR (0.6 less when compared to standard British one)
-150 octane fuel makes it climb like a jet until 5k
-decent in a dive
-good speed
-AMAZING turner (not as good as Japanese)
-good guns, good ammo
-decent for Energy Fighting, excels as a dogfighter
-can research ANY tier
-Limited time offer
-Expensive
-Bearcats and British Spit 22/24s are superior
-other people will take a peek at your logbook and ridicule you for flying such OP plane

Fw 190 D-9 (RANK 4, 5.3 Battle Rating, 7420 EAGLES OH GOD MY WALLET HURTS, 500% rewards, 232% research bonus); this is captured German Fw 190. Its overperforming and its OVERPRICED to boot. 3k for it? Give please. 7.5k? Hell no! Anyway:
-great rewards
-fast
-good climber
-AMAZING diver
-responsive at high speeds
-good armaments, amazing ammo
-meh turner
-engines take a while to overheat but its REALLY difficult to cool them down
-LOWER Battle Rating compared to German D-9 by 0.4
-can research ANY USSR plane in the game with no penalty
-looks great in green
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5E1Wxfr_jko
-ITS STILL OVERPRICED
-DOUBLE OVERPRICED

La-174 (RANK 4, 7.7 Battle Rating, Exclusive plane, 380% rewards, 100% research bonus) - USSR got a La-15 jet (not a premium), second generation jet fighter that turns better but climbs worse when compared to its more famous brother, Mig-15. It also had 3x23mm cannons as its armaments with 100 rounds per gun. La-174 was La-15s original prototype with Rolls-Royce Derwent jet engine. It flew for a while and then it vibrated to death. It was avalivable for purchase for people who grinded it after La-15 for 6 days. It has slightly lower Battle Rating (0.30) and it flies slightly worse. It also gets clubbed by Sabres all day erryday.
Brits
BRITISH:

Wirraway (RANK 1 , 1.7 Battle Rating, 480 EAGLES, 160% Rewards, 100% research bonus); Australian Flight Trainer/Bomber; A decent little low tier aircraft with a decent payload; turns fairly well and has a defensive turret while being sloooow; Get this if you want a low tiered dive bomber in your British rooster; or want to be patriotic.

Havoc; (RANK 1, 1.7 Battle Rating, 400 EAGLES, 240% Rewards, 100% research bonus) (really just a different A-20G); This is a Lend-lease American Light bomber with a decent speed, diving and payload; At its tiering you will most likely fight REALLY fragile fighters that themselves will have ALOT of issues to shoot you down. And all those enemies are really flammable. So you can basically just fly around and rip them to shreds.
Sealclubbing galore. Until you meet Lagg-3s. Good luck with those.

Boston Mk I; (RANK 2, 2.3 Battle Rating, 700 EAGLES, 1 day purchase, 500% Rewards, 124% research bonus); This is basically a Havoc with better engines that was available for one day purchase on 23rd January.
http://warthunder.com/en/news/421-January-the-23rd---A-20-Havocs-first-flight-en
It has marginally better performance, double rewards and higher Battle Rating. And since there are more cannon planes at its tiering its basically higher risk-higher reward Havoc.

Boomerang I (RANK 2, 3.3 Battle Rating , 1150 EAGLES ,340% Rewards, 160% research bonus)/II (RANK 2, 3.3 Battle Rating , 1320 EAGLES, 320% Rewards, 160% research bonus);two Australian Fighter Airplanes that were designed from Wirraway and actually never saw an enemy plane during whole ww2;
-decent rewards
-same performance as Spit mk II
-good turning
-decent dive
-decent climb
-good firepower
-top speed is nothing special
-low on cannon rounds but has 4x7.7mm with 1000 rounds each
-second one is marginally faster but slightly worse in turning
-first one is a meh buy, SECOND ONE IS A WASTE (since you can fly only one at a time in Historicals anyway)

Avenger Mk 1; (RANK 2, 3.0 Battle Rating, 1000 EAGLES ,500% Rewards, 148% research bonus); this is USA lend-leased TBF Avenger. Its uptiered by 0.3 Battle Rating but has humongous 500% rewards. On the other hand it can carry a torpedo but its slow and bulky.
Can't say i see any reasons to get it.

D.520; (RANK 2, 3.0 Battle Rating, 1000 EAGLES ,340% Rewards, 148% research bonus); French Fighter they made just before France got occupied;
-good rewards
-very agile (even better then early Spitfires)
-not very fast
-poor at climbing
-decent firepower
-nose cannon with VERY low ammo, machineguns with decent ammo
-very hipsterish

D.521; (RANK 2, 3.0 Battle Rating, PROMOTIONAL ,240% Rewards, no 100% exp bonus); D.520 with a British Merlin Engine in it,a bit improved performance when compared to D.520, you get it by buying MSI merch while being a Frenchman.
http://dragoonarmy.msi.com/event/fr-war-thunder
So, FRANCE ONLY PROMOTION.
Bottom point, you cant get it normally, lets hope there is a giveway later on.
http://online.gaijinent.com/story.php?id=4173

Hellcat F Mk I (RANK 3, 3.7 Battle Rating, 1300 EAGLES, 500% Rewards, 172% research bonus ); standard USA Lend-lease ground attacker given to Brits;. Note: Flight Model was ruined for a long time on it but its fixed now. Perhaps even too much.
-decent climb
-good turner
-fast
-good diver
-good armaments with plenty of ammo
-a bit like Typhoons but in the middle of Battle Rating between them
-gets 30% ground target Bomber bonuses
-can take out light pilboxes and medium tanks from 400 meters with ground ammo
-uptiered by 0.7 battle rating compared to USA version (which is ALOT)

Mustang Mk1; (RANK 3, 4.7 Battle Rating, 1850 EAGLES, 500% Rewards, 208% research bonus); A very, very powerful Energy fighter built in USA for Britain early in the war,it has 4x20mm cannons and can rip and tear most planes with em;
-good rewards
-mediocre climb
-decent speed
-good turner
-good at diving
-GREAT firepower
-low ammunition
-would pick Spit IX over it at its tier
Japan
JAPANESE:

A7He1 (RANK 1, Battle Rating 2.3) 550 EAGLES , 120% Rewards, 112% research bonus); This is one of four German He 112 B-0s that were shipped to Japan for testing in 1938.
-0.3 higher Battle Rating
-matchmaking can ruin your day (at least its 2.3)

BF-109 E-3 (RANK 2, Battle Rating 2.7, 1000 EAGLES , 480% Rewards, +148% research bonus); Lend lease Bf, Exactly the same as the counterpart, but no bombs.
-GREAT rewards
-good climb
-good dive
-good turner
-good dive
-decent speed (lower than F-4 by quite alot)
-good firepower, low ammo
Jack of all trades, master of none. People like E-3s for FRB as they are simple to fly and quite forgiving.

F4U-1a; Captured American F4U (RANK 2, Battle Rating 3.0, 1150 EAGLES, 500% Rewards, 160% research bonus); Exactly the same as the counterpart, You would get this if you love Energy fighting, but Still love ♥♥♥ aircraft;
-GREAT rewards
-decent climb
-great in a dive
-decent turner
-fast (as long as you dont climb)
-good firepower, good ammo
-sexy dark blue paintjob
-tends to overheat (fixed a bit but still problematic)
-nerfed to hell and back

Ki-96 (Rank 3, Battle Rating 4.0, 1600 EAGLES, 500% Rewards, 196% research bonus); this is Japanese Heavy Fighter, just like the non-premium Ki-102.
It has common Japanese characteristics for a plane:
-good rewards
-good climb
-decent to good turner
-goes in a dive up to 700
-bit slow
-good firepower (compared to other Japanese planes, cannon velocity is a bit low)
-mediocre ammo
-cant shoot 37mm and 20mm separately
-quite fragile
-bomber hunter thats actually undertiered for its role- 0.4 Battle Efficiency difference cuts down amount of B-17s you will meet
-it ends up fighting lighter fighters at its Rank and those can easily ruin your day

FW-190 A-5 (RANK 3, Battle Rating 4.7, 1750 EAGLES, 500% Rewards, 208% research bonus ); Lend lease FW 190, Exactly the same as the counterpart, but no bombs. You would get this if you love Energy fighting, but still love ♥♥♥ aircraft; it is a perfect match with Zeroes as you now have both good dogfighters and energy fighters on the same side.
-good rewards
-good climb
-good cruising speed
-AMAZING in a dive and quite responsive
-AMAZING Energy Fighter
-poor at turning
-great firepower, AMAZING ammo capacities (except wing 20mm)
-can take a beating
-hard to break in a dive
-matchmaking will pit you against Spitfires and those things are REALLY bad for you
-BIG NERF- you get inferior A-5 now (used to be A-5/U2 but they changed it)- a bit worse performance, you are forced to put 2x20 MG FF/M Cannons on wings (explosive shells they use are VERY good but only 60 shells each)
-BUFF- every 190 flies a bit better now.
-engine tends to overheat unless you go 90% throttle
-4.7 Battle Rating (German one has 4.3) so its overtiered
