Wrong. Grenades should be used for walkers. They can take out a quite a few of them, and weaken a few more, so they can be killed with just 1 fast machete swing.
9mm should be used for kids, as it can one-shot them.
For runners you should use m16, machine guns are excellent at taking out runners following you.
You should take out some runners and kids with melee too.
That's on classic though. On nightmare it would probably be better to use 9mm to shoot runners, and grenades are way less effective against walkers, so if you were talking about nightmare you are probably right.
Playing this map on nightmare is insane though.
