Getting started
Basically, modding your character is quite easy once you understand the Voxel Editor that comes with the game. You can find the Voxel Editor under the following path:

Win 64Bit : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\ForgeQuest
Win 32Bit : C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\ForgeQuest

The editor shall be named "VoxelEditor.exe". To run it simply double click it.

Making your first Model
So let's get started with the actual modding.
The first thing we do is editing the standard head.

To do this click on File -> Load -> Model

Now navigate to your Forge Quest main directory.
From there goto game -> models -> adventurer -> outfit_start

In the outfit_start folder you have all the bodyparts from the starter outfit.

We've choosen to start with the head, so double-click the "head.vxl" file.

It should now look something like this: (Don't worry - I already edited mine, that's why he looks different...)

Changing colors
The first thing you need to know is how to change colors.

To make a new color, simply click the 'new' button and mix your color on your right hand side!

Now we are going to change the color of some blocks. This is currently quite complicated - I wish there would be an easier way to do so, but I haven't found one yet.

1. Choose a color you would like to recolor blocks.

Then select the 'select' tool. It should now be looking something like this:

To select the area you want to recolor, simply move arround the Blue, Red and Green blocks till you have selected the block(s) you'd like to select! I want to give my character a red nose. This is how my Voxel Editor now looks like:

To recolor the selected blocks, simply click on select -> recolor

Mine now looks like this:

Adding / Removing blocks
Adding blocks is propably the only simple thing in this Voxel editor.

Simply choose the color you want the block to be as learned before, then click somewhere to place them!

I now added 4 red blocks to my head, but I don't want them! The only thing I could do here is delete them. To delete things simply select the area you want to delete (as learned before...) then
click on select -> erase

Phew, the red blocks are gone! You should now know the basics! I will expand this Guide by time to time.
Multiplayer Models... not quite yet.
But probably soon!
It's definetly planned that the custom models you guys created will be sync'd along the Multiplayer!

Thanks @ walkamongstars for keeping up with the community! :)

Probably a long shot considering how old this is, but has anyone run into an issue where upon running the .exe, the editor never loads? It's just a white window and nothing happens. Currently am on Windows 11, and my steam library is on a D drive if that is significant.

To be honest I didn't touch the Voxel editor in two years, so I don't really know, there might be by now I guess? There wasn't back then tho.

Shame there isn't a pre-existing slot for at least one custom head. That'd be cool.

Make a backup of the pre-existing one and then overwrite it.

Okay I made a head as I wanted it, but I didn't save over a pre-existing one since I do not want to erase those. How do I acutally use the head? Or do I HAVE to save over a pre-existing?

Good tutorial. I didn't touch Voxel editor, but it seems amazing.

Yea, that should work aswell.
Not sure if stuff is still working like described here, haven't messed arround with the editor in over a year.
