It was a bug before the Steam release, when they introduced injuries from breaking windows without an item; the bug caused the injury to be fatal.

Dude how did you die? There is no zombies around, nothing is on fire, there is no tall buildings nearby and you are not reanimated. There is a pool of blood near your corpse so it had to be from something other then freezing to death or eatting rotten food, plus starving and dehydration takes a bit longer then one hour, so what the hell happened?
