They do. It's always beneficial to stack the same colour because the unit gains huge damage gains over time thanks to that. A cross trained Berseker with maxed out Warlock path will one shot virtually anything (even maxed out demons and dragons) purely due to the stacked colour alone. All the abilities are boons on top of it. Therefore it's never wrong to max out a path of the same colour, no matter which class and is always either a good or a great choice.
It's would be a viable exploit strategy to get a team of characters with low block/dodge rate, strip them down to underwear, leave a team of enemy range lance and just have them pound the naked character while the healers get their exp.
