How to play the original Broken Sword (DLC) with Director's Cut
By Catbeard
It's kind of dumb that this needs a guide.

Guide
This guide is designed to help people launch and play the Original version of Broken Sword and The Knights Templar.

Recently the need to use a key modifier to give the options between DC and Original has become a bit moot but this guide is here for anyone missing out on the option to choose.
Updated method
It seems Steam has updated and should negate the need to use a modifier key. However, if for some reason the game loads straight into DC then try the following.

Right-Click on game in your library > Properties > General > Select Launch Options > Pick your preferred behaviour

Launching The Original Game (Windows)
Make sure you have the Original version DLC downloaded > Whilst in Steam click on your library > Click on Broken Sword 1 > Hold 'Shift' and left-mouse click the 'Play' button > You should now be able to select between the Director's Cut and Original version of the game.

Launching on Linux
If the above method doesn't work on your Linux Distro then try the following:

Right Click on the the game title and select "Manage > Browse Local Files"
From here you should have a file labelled "Launcher.ini"
Double click "Launcher.ini" to open the launcher and then you should have the following options as pictured
Why so cryptic?
Honestly? No clue. Launching it from inside the Director's Cut version wouldn't of been very practical since the original version is using a virtual box (SCUMMVM) where as DC is not.

Frankly the fact that the 'DLC' page doesn't explain how to launch the original version is beyond stupid. This solution isn't unique to BS but when the negative reviews are all based around not being able to launch the game, since it's not intuitive, then you'd think the publisher would make a quick note on how to launch it.

Anyway, I hope this helps anyone looking to play the original.

Hey Domi. Sorry, just seen your comment and updated the guide with visuals

Right-Click on game in your library > Properties > General > Select Launch Options > Pick your preferred behaviour

If it's not there double check that you've got the original downloaded as DLC

Catbeard, I'm trying to launch original with that method, but it launches DC every time. Any solution?

@butch shartman - can confirm that this still works. As long as you have the game downloaded, hold either shift or alt when double clicking the game in your library or clicking the big play button.

If for some reason you're really having trouble still, Director's Cut is still up on GOG, which includes the original there.

Although, as much as I love the Broken Sword series it is a struggle to recommend supporting a dev that delists their games to push a remake.

Bright side though. GOG version is DRM free. Download it and you've got it forever.

@revachol Dishwasher Union looks like there's a fan Patch for the game with a guide over on GOG with instructions on how to get it working with French audio. Hope this helps! :)

No worries, thanks for the helpful response anyway!

@revachol Dishwasher Union it's possible to alter settings in SCUMMVM but I think that it's limited to English Voice, French subtitles.

At least that's all I got working. Looking online there seems to be an issue with getting the French voices to work.

I'll have a poke around a see if I can find anything for you 🙂

I wonder, is it possible to play the original in French, but with English subtitles?
