Expect the Unexpected: How to counter distraction tactics.
By A_Mustachioed_Yoshi
Wow, the competitive landscape of silver 1 sure has changed a fair bit over the years. Way back in 2016, I created a guide, called "Distraction Tactics: A Guide", which detailed an idea for a strategy, involving a player or two acting as a decoy, to lure the enemy team to another site when the bomb carrier is actually on the other site. But how do you counter that?

Preface
Wow, hard to believe it's been 3 years since I discussed the idea of what I like to call "Distraction Tactics". I won't go into too many details about the tactic itself, I think it's pretty self-explanatory, especially since it seems to have become more widely used by those among the silver tier nowadays. Hell, even in higher ranks, it's been used in some sense, not necessarily in the same vein that I had initially thought of.

Fast forward 3 years later, I have 1000+ hours under my belt in CSGO, and now, CTs have focused on finding the bomb carrier, as opposed to focusing on a huge ole distraction on one site. Ok, with that being said, you might be thinking "well, there you go, strategy countered."... well... not necessarily. There are still ways where both teams could fool each other in a sense. Which brings me to my motto of sorts.
"Expect the Unexpected": A motto with a purpose.
At first glance, "Expect the Unexpected" seems kind of random, but rather obvious. With distraction tactics, people have come up with clever and creative ways to trick their opponents into peaking at the worst possible times, hell, with the addition of graffiti, some people have started shooting at graffiti sprayed by an enemy, thinking that the graffiti itself was an enemy... either that or they were just messing around, I don't know to be honest. My point is, CSGO is both a battle of strategy, and a battle of mind games.

Nowadays, I take a more analytical approach to counter-strike. I look for any patterns that I've come to notice from spending over 1000 hours in this game, and still, people manage to throw me and my teammates for a loop. I've stepped back from the role of taking kills, and watched out for opportune moments to make a comeback, once I've gotten a rough idea of how the enemy team is going to play. Some people may not like that, but hey, it has certainly helped out in a pinch a fair chunk of the time. I disagree with the notion that just because someone is bottom fragging, it means they are not contributing. A player can step back from taking frags, and alert the team of what the enemy team's next moves are going to be. So in that sense, yes, their score may not be high up, but they are STILL contributing in some sense of the word.
Conclusion
In conclusion, is there really a way to counter distraction tactics? Well, yes, and no. Sometimes the other team is just one step ahead, or you could be having a bad day. Sometimes the enemy team gets overconfident after having won 10 rounds in a row, where they will then loosen their grip on the match, thinking that they have won the match already. It ultimately depends on how both teams interact.

With that being said, there is a certain group of people I would like to "thank". Thanks to all the people that have said I "sHoUlD uNiNsTaLl CsGo", without all that bs, I wouldn't have damn well tried my best to figure out ways to outsmart the enemy team.
