Introduction
The first time I tried doing the rotation of the controller left stick to turn the crank, I thought there was a problem with my controller since it just didn't work.

I tried to find the solution for this, but I couldn't find anything that is satisfactory. After some testing, I finally found the solution.

How to..
After more testing.. I've found there are 2 methods to fix this problem

Method 1
  1. Open setting, choose Control Setup

  2. Move to Joypad Deadzone, lower the deadzone indicator

    Before

    After

  3. Save your setting
  4. Whenever you are asked to rotate the left stick (to turn a crank), just do it gently, keep rotate it, don't stop until it's done. It should works now.

Method 2 (Recommended)
This problem may be caused by high framerates (144 fps). The other way to fix this problem is by limiting the framerates to 60 fps
  1. Open setting, choose Video Settings

  2. Move to Refresh Rate, set it to 60 Hz, (with Vertical Sync On)

  3. Save your setting
  4. It should works now. You also don't need to do the Method 1 if you use this method

Closing comments...
  • It's actually possible to do the rotating without changing any setting, but the timing is really slow
  • Lowering the joypad deadzone helps performing the rotation easier, but it's still have a chance to fail if doing it too fast.
  • Limiting the framerates to 60 fps, by changing the refresh rate to 60Hz, with vsync on will make performing the rotation works 100% (at least based on my experience), so this is the recommended solution
  • I tested this on 144Hz display, so I have no idea if this works for 60Hz display (I haven't tested it)

I have other method if above method didn't work:
1. Make sure follow step method 1 and method 2, resize to lower joypad deadzone and v-sync "on" 60 Hz
2. Then, change d-pad key to analog, vice-versa
3. So you rotate the crank only use d-pad not analog

Unfortunately neither method worked for me, i couldnt care less about ninjago but my kids were enjoying it (7 and 8yo) till they came up to this apparently game breaking bug.
Im not hooking up a keyboard to my living room PC just for this POS broken mechanic.

Fps set to 60 w/ Vsync

after getting to the second crank in the first level (technically the 2nd level) I got it with method 1 by just keeping to rotate the left stick slowly until it worked

Xer01ne's method works but it locks the keyboard into being the only controller, so if you wanna play with a controller: play the rest of the level or until a checkpoint using keyboard or try the controller methods.

PS: Does anyone have a list of when you need to turn a crank?

I can only get one quarter done, then it resets (I try going as slow as possible but I'm too impatient)

a game is flawed if the player has to change the settings for something not working
