LUCKILY I ONLY HAD THAT ACCOUNT AS A BACKUP/THROWAWAY AND HAVEN'T LOGGED IN UNTIL RECENTLY, AND I FOUND OUT WHAT HAPPENED. THE MICROSOFT WEBSITE HAD LOGS WHEN THIS GUY ADDED THE FAKE E-MAIL AND THE DATES CORRESPOND CLOSELY TO AFTER I SIGNED ONTO THE GAMES FOR WINDOWS IN 2023 FOR THIS GAME AND ONLY THIS GAME.
PERHAPS YOUR LINK HAS BEEN COMPROMISED BY SOMEONE IN THAT WEBSITE, OR SOMEONE UPLOADED A REPLACEMENT. I HAVEN'T USED THAT MS ACCOUNT FOR ANYTHING BESIDES FOR THIS GAME.
=PART 2= (1000 CHARACTER LIMIT)
HE ADDED ANOTHER G-MAIL ACCOUNT RESEMBLING MY REAL G-MAIL ACCOUNT FOR VERIFICATION. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS A SINGLE NUMBER WAS CHANGED AT THE END. WHEN YOU TRY TO LOG ONTO MICROSOFT AFTER A LONG TIME OF NOT USING IT, THEY ASK YOU WHICH E-MAIL TO SEND THE CONFIRMATION TO WHICH IS A RED FLAG SINCE I ONLY HAD ONE E-MAIL REGISTERED WITH MS. I SAW TWO E-MAILS THAT RESEMBLES "USER******" AND "USER*******" *(WITH ASTERISKS AT THE END) TO CHOOSE FROM SO THAT SLIGHT CHANGE IN E-MAIL WOULDN'T BE NOTICEABLE TO A LAY PERSON UNLESS THEY GO INTO SETTINGS OF THEIR MS ACCOUNT.
=PART 1= (1000 CHARACTER LIMIT)
IF someone wants to take this strange alarmist statement provided below with any seriousness, you can obtain the Games for Windows installation files elsewhere with a little bit of googling. You should also be able to find at least a version of these files somewhere within any game directory that has GFWL as a part of its package but you might have to do some compatibility test so YMMV.
THEY WILL ADD A SECOND SECURITY E-MAIL TO YOUR MICROSOFT ACCOUNT FOR A VERIFICATION CODE. I WAS LUCKY I DIDN'T HAVE ANY USEFUL DATA ON MY MS ACCOUNT.
I HAD TO CHANGE MY PASSWORD, REMOVE THE SECOND FAKE E-MAIL AUTHENTICATION ACCOUNT (UNDER SECURITY SETTINGS OF MICROSOFT ACCOUNT) AND FORCE MICROSOFT TO SIGN OFF ALL DEVICES.
Solved now. Ty!
