No longer up to date
I'm not able to keep this guide up to date as I do not spend enough money or keep close enough of an eye on Bungie news posts to stay on top of all cosmetics. Apologies, everyone! At the very least, the Ada-1 transmog section will be kept up to date.
The Tower
Ritual Weapon
Each season, there is a legendary weapon acquired from resetting one of the three core playlists once. These are Vanguard Ops, Crucible, and Gambit. Zavala, Shaxx, and Drifter will offer an ornament for this weapon if you reset your rank twice.

At the end of the season, this weapon moves to the Monument to Lost Lights. The ornaments are also available for purchase there.

Ada-1 and the Loom
All players will receive a quest from Ada-1 on the left side of the Tower asking you to find something for her on Europa. If you haven't already unlocked Europa, you must do the quest On Darkness's Doorstep, available from the Quest Archive in the Tower or HELM.

This quest unlocks the armor transmogrification system, where you can convert any armor counted as "discovered" in the Collections tab into a universal legendary ornament. Completing one of her bounties gives a class specific currency called synthcord. Interact with the loom to turn this into synthweave, which can be used to make a universal legendary armor ornament out of any legendary or lower armor you've discovered, ever. When you first finish the quest, you get 6 free synthweaves per class, which can only be used for that class. Each season, you can acquire 10 synthweaves per class by completing threader bounties. The maximum number of synths per class you can hold is 15 synthweave, plus 5 synthcords in your inventory that you have not yet put in the loom.

Ada-1's synthweave bounties do not have an expiration timer, so within a season you can take as long as you need to complete them. If you do not like one, you can abandon it and try to get a different one.

Overview
Ghost shells are equipped from the character menu, beneath your guns. All ghosts can have the same mods slotted into them, with mod capacity increased by masterworking.
Ornaments are skins. Most ornaments, including the ones here, can only be applied to one specific item. Once on, you can toggle them on and off at will from the lower panel of the item's details page.
Universal ornaments can be applied to any armor of that type. So for instance, a universal titan chest ornament can be applied to every non-exotic titan chest armor.

Sparrows, ships, and emotes are equipped from the lower panel of the character screen (press S after opening the character menu, or click the arrow at the bottom of the screen).
Ships are purely cosmetic and have no effect on gameplay despite coming in a variety of rarities.
Exotic sparrows are always 160 speed, while legendary sparrows will randomly be either 150 or 160. Sparrows also have randomized perks. The most popular ones are instant summon or decreased cooldown between summonings. You can reroll sparrow perks by repeatedly purchasing copies from the collections tab of the character menu. Exotic sparrows have a non-random, fixed perk and a randomized one.

Emotes are short animations your character will do when you press the arrow keys. There is one rainbow emote available free when you redeem this code on the Bungie website: R9J-79M-J6C
Transmat effects are consumables applied to ships that will change the animation when your character loads into an area/activity. There is one transmat effect available free when you redeem a code on the Bungie website.[www.bungie.net] The code is R9J79MJ6C

Shaders
Shaders are consumable colour palette changes you can apply to items (but not exotic guns). There are a wide variety of shaders available from gameplay without Eververse, but there are so many that at this time I have no plans to add them to the guide. If you want to know about a particular shader, you can use Destiny 2 database website such as light.gg or Destiny Tracker. Type in the name of the shader and look to see what these database sites say is the source.

In the Eververse archive, there's a pack of shaders sold for glimmer, useful for new players just starting out.

Emblems
See this site for a list of all currently available emblems and how to acquire them.[destinyemblemcollector.com] There are some free codes you can redeem on the Bungie website to get emblems as well, but be sure you're redeeming Destiny 2 codes and not Destiny 1 codes by mistake.

Holiday Events
A variety of cosmetics can be earned through gameplay during holiday events. These cosmetics are only available during the holiday event.

In the past, each ghost shell used to have perks similar to how guns do, but now they are purely cosmetic with customizable mods.

Also I realized that the previous thumbnail was a ship that has now flown to the great Destiny Content Vault in the sky, so I changed to an actually relevant thumbnail.

Should be up to date for Season 15 now.

Armory Forged shell corrections: Drops from Niobe's Torment a.k.a. Niobe Labs puzzle, not Lost Souvenir quest. Perks are Speed Demon, Omni-Telemetry and random planetary combo detector.

Some are "hidden" until you earn them.

You can look at them through the collection tab and take screenshots even of the ones you don't own @Helio

It probably would have been better to add images, but I don't personally own all of these and also I don't have images all ready to go.

Multiple people have told me they got the Gambit ghost shell by getting 3 resets across multiple seasons.
Floppy 2 Nov, 2019 @ 4:20am
Gamblers Palm is legendary
Korzinga 1 Nov, 2019 @ 9:43pm
The Drifter ghost shell is actually from doing 3 resets within a season, tried before and it doesn't work
ItsMeVan 1 Nov, 2019 @ 10:01am
Great guide, but I want to point out that Gambler's Palm sparrow is legendary, not an exotic

Great guide! :) I love guides that help show me things I am missing in my collection and how to get them.
