Starting out:
Before anything you need to get the game registered, W8x users have found that when attempting to enter details at the registration window it simply hangs there forever.

A forum post here[sd.stardock.com] suggests that you download a file from here[sd.stardock.com]
  • Extract it to \Steam\steamapps\common\demigod\
  • Run register_demigod.cmd
  • You only need your Stardock account email address and the CD key from STEAM for the window that opens
  • That's it!

N.b. William JCM reported that installing the game on Windows 8.1 upgraded from 8, the bug message to register the game with Stardock did not arise and it loaded straight to logos.
In game
Once the game has launched, be aware of the following:

Windows 10
  • No known issues
  • Couldn't replicate tab in-out issue mentioned by pRagazzo for Win8 in Win10 which is good.
  • Couldn't replicate windowed mode crash mentioned by Flo so still looking into that.

Windows 8.1
  • Tabbing out can cause crashes - reported by pRagazzo

Windows 8, GeForce 770
  • Sometimes the cursor can not draw or sticks despite moving the mouse, the most common fix is changing Windows scaling to 100% , a guide is here.[forums.demigodthegame.com] Repored by Lockbearsil but although tabbing out and in apparently solved the issue, updating DirectX made the game crash on level load.
Solutions
Alt+Tab
Set the game to Windowed in the Video Settings if you find that you need to tab out and it's crashing the game.
Alternatively run it on Windows 10.

Mouse-induced game hitching
If your game freezes only when you are moving the mouse, create a restore point and update your video card drivers. Particularly if you're running W10 and nVidia RTX series video cards.

Personal findings
Everybody get's different results because of the plethora of hardware and software out there, so here is what I'm testing your problems on:

Asus Trio Transformer[www.asus.com]

It's got the Intel® Core™ i7 4500U Processor[ark.intel.com] which has the integrated Intel HD GPU 4400 series.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro[windows.microsoft.com]
Also Raptr with game overlay turned on[raptr.com] as well as Steam's overlay. I've noticed that Raptr and Impulse overlay can work at the same time as the Steam overlay in this game on this laptop without problems.

My other rig is:
  • i7-6700K (It was on offer)
  • 16 Gb DDR4 RAM
  • Asus 1080Ti OC
  • Creative Zx
  • 256Gb SSD
  • Some HDDs

    What I've found
    • Tabbing in and out on my laptop doesn't break anything.
    • Changing Windows display scaling doesn't break anything.
    • I still need to use the Legacy Stardock registration program whever I install this game.

Hth, lots of love and feel free to ask questions

HTTP 500 errors are "The server is messed up", whereas 404 is "This thing isn't here". Since Steam sanitises and checks all links going out it may be Steam experiencing issues, sorry. Try copying the URL direct out of the links and then using them like that or use the terms in this guide as search terms.

All links from the “Starting out” tab give a 500 error. :(

@mad Merc, I have read that drivers could be the source of that issue, please update them and try again?

I found something on starting the game in windows 7 compatibility mode, which we will test to see if it makes a difference in finding one another

I have yet to test but apparently you need; 6073, and 6112-6132 all UDP for this game.

We are having issues finding one another on a local area network, which would be weird (different people trying to host) no one was able to find one anothers' game. Any clue what we are missing? Firewall? random port?

Looks like a DX9 driver issue, have you installed older DX9 on your system

Crashes on startup, results in splash screen then "gray box" over top of "log window" and log reports "cannot set wireframe mode" (d3d9 error) .. on a 2080
Calidori 7 Jan, 2022 @ 7:54am
Correct, that was the symptom.

I've managed to fix the issue by updating my GPU drivers to the latest version. It looks like the Nvidia RTX2070 drivers from about July 2021 were the issue.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
