What you need to do.
Step 1. Have Cleansing Light active all of the time.
Step 2. If the Host needs healing spam Restorative Offering while Cleansing is Active
Step 3. Win

I prefer Ishtar "you cannot die without my permission" tanking, which funnily enough doesn't even use a HP transfer gift.

You don't need to heal the host if the host is immortal, right?

PS: A good thing about Cleansing Light is you can actually generate HP from nothing with it - transfer health to your ally and you regen, but the ally gets the full amount. I assume that's what you were getting at with this

I usually kill everything just ahead of the host, or when the host is right with me, but always have healing on hand. Host can't die if there's nothing to die from.

More like, use any code with good burst damage.
In ng+ use codes that increase all defenses, have damage mitigation, demeter's auto heal and io's bigger heal.

Also use the host alive at 1 hp passive that damages you.

Alternative would be just being a fcking tank and/or DPS guy and slaying everything for the host.
Host still recieves loot and stuff.
