Redux V8 has more weapons, but the quality of them varies IMO. The mapadds are also less polished, which isn't a bad thing per say but it has some jank. There are still pretty cool and fun set pieces. The customization menu is more limited compared to V2.0.1 but it still works nicely.
Redux V2.0.1 has less weapons but the weapons it does have are a higher quality of polish and feel. Mapadds are WAY less jank and feature some cool set pieces. Its also much easier to customize with the more in-depth menu system compared to Redux V8.
TL'DR, Redux V8 has more content but is less polished overall. Redux V.2.0.1 has a bit less content but is much more polished and "higher quality" for lack of a better term.
Both of them are really fun and worth trying at least once. I personally have a lot of nostalgia for Redux V8.
- Make sure you've set Half-Life 2 to the "steam_legacy" beta branch and run it atleast once
- Install and run Source SDK 2006 atleast once
- Ensure Half-Life 2 and Source SDK 2006 are on the same drive as your main Steam installation
If SMOD 40AQ launches correctly then I'm not sure why REDUX is failing to launch. All else fails I recommend trying to alternate install method listed in section 2a.
