♦ Overview (TL:DR)
Wollay has shifted the way you progress through the game. In Alpha, you killed mobs aimlessly to gather XP to increase your level, in turn increasing your stats. Along your journey you'd gather better gear and weapons. You were free to roam across the entirety of your randomly-generated world, and you'd eventually become so strong that no enemy was too strong.

Well, beta is here, and some changes have occurred. The world is now divided into regions (essentially the biomes that we've seen in alpha) that you're pushed to complete and conquer individually. You no longer level up by collecting XP from mob kills, rather, you level up by gathering artifacts along your journey of quests that are unique to the region. Each region has a set number of artifacts that can be collected.

Another new game mechanic that ties into artifacts is lore. During your exploration you will learn about the history of each region, and each piece of research contributes to a percentage of completion (generally each piece of history or knowledge contributes 10% of lore). Once 100% of lore is learned about a region, all artifacts are unveiled on the map, which will allow you to progress faster.

In the chance that you desire to visit a new region prematurely before completing the one you are currently working on, your items and gear will become nullified until you return to the region where you collected them. Eventually, once 100% lore is completed, you will begin to find loot identified by a + tier prefix that can be brought into other regions.
Multiplayer Changes
Multiplayer gameplay is now handled through the Steam servers. In order to join your friends, you must have them on Steam, and they must appear on your friend menu (default hotkey is J). The friends list is not organized by players who are online or offline, you must scroll throughout the list to find their particular name.

There is no longer an option to join via an IP address.

There is also no longer a server executable located in the game files, so dedicated servers are not possible. You can only play among friends you have on Steam. If you attempt to join a friend who is currently joined into another player's instance (who you do not have added), they will appear as offline.

How to find (travel to) you friends in-game:

To play with your friends, you must first initially join their game. All Cube World players share the same map, but are in separate instances. Because of this, once you join your friend, you will remain in the same spot where you were in single player, but you are in fact in their instance. You now must utilize a Flight Master, who are located in towns, to fast-travel to their location. Generally, Flight Masters charge a fee for the service, but fast-traveling to friends is free of charge.
Leveling System
In Alpha, you leveled up by killing mobs and collecting XP.

Now, in Beta, you no longer acquire XP from killing mobs. You can level up by collecting artifacts located in each region.
Key Items (Specials)
In Alpha, some items we obtained were held to a higher significance than others. Some of those items were the Hang Glider, Climbing Spikes, the Boat, etc.

In Beta, these items are still more significant (referred to as Specials), and must be obtained through quests. To obtain these quests, you must talk to town members, or friendly traveling groups. Some of them will talk to you in regards to these items, and will refer you to where they can be found. In the chance that you successfully learn about a quest, you will hear a chime sound effect, and a marker will appear on the map (with an icon of the key item in question).

These quests have varying objectives. Sometimes it's just a matter of walking up to the item and picking it up. Other times, you must defeat a group of enemies or rescue a friendly NPC to obtain the item in question.

List of Specials:
  • Hang Glider (Allows you to glide through the air)
  • Boat (Allows you travel quickly across water)
  • Reins (Allows you to mount/ride your pet)
  • Divine Harp (Opens some locked doors)
  • Sky Whistle (Used to ascend to floating islands from the ground)
  • Epic Book of Crafting (Unlocks crafting of Epic items)
  • Legendary Book of Crafting (Unlocks crafting of Legendary items)
  • Climbing Spikes (Allows you to vertically scale walls)
  • Spirit Bell (Opens some restricted areas)
Region-Bound Items & Loot
Region-Bound Key Items (Specials)

Key Items (or Specials) unlocked in each region are bound to the region that they were obtained in. If you leave a region with key items that you've unlocked from, the items will not be able to be used. New quests will be generated for each region, so that you can re-obtain them.

Each region is defined by the white border displayed on the map.

Region-Bound Loot

Loot and gear (Weapons/Armor/Accessories/etc.) are also bound to the region that they were obtained in. You will keep the items if you leave, but they will suffer a severe statistical debuff that practically leaves them unusuable. Once a region reaches 100%, items with a + prefix will begin to drop. These items can be brought to any adjacent regions and will maintain their stats, but suffer the same debuffs beyond that point.
Changing Class Specialization
In order to change your class specification, you must find a town (To find a town easily, open your map [M] and zoom in as far as possible, speckled areas resembling houses should be towns).

In the town, you must talk to the Guildmaster. It will then prompt you for which specialization you wish to change to.

Each class has two different specializations:

Warrior:
● Berserker - Higher damage output
● Guardian - Higher defensive stats

Ranger:
● Sniper - Utilizes range
● Scout - Quicker attacks

Mage:
● Fire Mage - Able to burn enemies
● Water Mage - Enables ability to heal allies

Rogue:
● Assassin - Stealthy, sudden attacks with higher damage
● Ninja - Better at dodging attacks
Fast-Traveling
In order to navigate the map more easily, you can use a method called fast traveling. In a town, find the Flight Master, he will allow you to quickly fly to your desired destination for a price. Flights to your friends are complimentary.
Lore Progression
With each region brings lore (history/backstory). Learning, reading, or talking about lore increases your lore progress. Speaking to members of a town can increase your lore progression. Furthermore, reading the dialogue placed upon the stone structures surrounded by pillars will also increase your lore progression (they look similar to a tombstone).

Upon 100%+ completion of lore, all artifacts will be immediately revealed on the map, each represented by a marker. Also, loot will begin being marked with a +, negating the loot debuffs inflicted by leaving the home region.
Petrified Towns (and how to fix them)
Sometimes you will encounter towns whose members are all claiming to be 'petrified'. At first glance, it seems that the point of the town has be nulled out, but after speaking to the town members, you have a chance of being granted a quest to defeat a witch. Defeat this witch to remove the petrified attribute of the town members.

Weather Buffs & Debuffs
The weather can determine conditional effects applied to the player depending on the biome they are in.

Weather is determined by temperature and humidity, which can be located in the top-right, above the map.

For example, if you attempt to swim in a snowy biome where the temperature is exceedingly slow, a slow debuff will be applied to your character.

This has been stellar! Alpha was special cause it was a hot mess but now it's special for different circumstances & if you know what you're lookin for, it gives more incentive to Earn those stats for your Special Items, no longer having to be caught between Riding Speed or Necessary Skills regarding Combat! A solid win for me! (Even the Lore highlights Artifacts, c'mon now~)
