Terraria: Lorekeeper Diaries Vol. I
By Okami Tomato
So, to take a small break from Boss Ideas while I come up with new stuff for it, here is something else to keep people occupied: A series of logs made based on official Terraria stuff, used to make some sort of lore

Disclaimers: For starters, this isn't a guide (but anyone who knows me is pretty much used to this disclaimer now so yeah), but also this isn't officially canon (unless Red or Cenx or someone comes along and says so at some point :P)

Anyways, enjoy :)

Beginner Note
The Lorekeeper is a completely non-canon, fictitious character in the Terraria world who is used in this page as the person who actually documents the findings and lore, as opposed to using the existing NPCs as most of them would probably not have access to the same stuff the Lorekeeper has, as while the NPCs are made to have their own characteristics and to be interactable, the Lorekeeper is designed to be an onlooker from the outside; using prying eyes and wisdom with his age to document findings over generations.

Also, as said prior, this isn't actually proper canon, as that is being made officially according to some prior knowledge. If this does somehow end up being confirmed accidentally then it's just a case of minds thinking alike (unless, of course, this page basically gets confirmed officially as the canon somehow).

This is also the first of a small mini-series of these. It likely will not be the only one. They will all be similarly-designed probably; with lots of words and descriptions as opposed to many pictures like the Boss Ideas have.

Regardless, enjoy

Entry 01 - 'Pre-Hardmode'
It seems that at this time most of the ugly things have been sealed away by supernatural force, but not I. I am too sneaky to be withheld by some seal, but without my old friends I shall pass this time by writing down my encounters.

Everything seems mostly calm around. Sunny days, slimes and critters all over the surface, and some undead that appear once the sun goes away. Things are peaceful, so maybe I will document findings on any creatures I've studied. Of course, studying is hard work, and I can't just go and dissect everything so carelessly, or people might know I'm around here still.

I would write down what I remember about the Dryad incident before I forget any of it, but a blue-armoured man has sworn me to secrecy. Battles like that, as epic as it were, must apparently only be documented in his vault or something... strange guy.

Entry 02 - 'Slimes'
Slimes - gross, but tasty. A slime's body is mainly composed of gel, but the composure and size of a slime is also dictated by what it eats... consumes... dissolves? I'm not sure since it doesn't have a stomach.

Green slimes eat grass, but grass has little nutritional value, so they end up small and rather pathetic.

Blue slimes are composed partially of water, and are similar to green in being rather, well, pathetic.

I think red might be the default slime. Pinkies therefore must be a baby slime; only more durable since its small size makes it hard to hit well.

Purple slimes have somewhere along the line eaten a blue slime. Guilty practice maybe? No, no, they haven't complex minds... do they? Either way it's a rarity so they're more uncommon.

Yellow slimes? I'm not sure. But I don't want to dig my mitts through that in case it's gross.

Black slimes are full of dirt and small rocks. Mother slimes are even more so, gorging itself on them by the looks of it. Those so-called 'baby slimes' are actually just it dividing from damage, so they're no babies at all!

Ice slimes, lava slimes and sand slimes are in the name. The Terrarians at least got that one right.

Jungle slimes are full of jungle foliage, though the spiked ones are full of stingers. Either they've been hanging around slain hornets or eat them themselves, gross either way.

The dungeon slimes? I think it's a mix of the skeletons in the dungeon and some of the brickwork. I think they're the reason the Dark Caster population is so low; the purple comes from their robes!

Some have picked up various items like umbrellas or masks, and some have hardened slime, but that's all the gelatinous things I could find at the moment... minus the big one... hee hee, that one'll be fun to analyse closer, considering how aggressive it is!

Entry 03 - 'The Undead'
These lands are absolutely full of undead! Zombies over there, skeletons down there, heck there's even a dungeon full of them!

Now, keep this between us, but I know where those undead came from. After that war with the 'Eldritch Squid', its arcane powers seeped into the ground and, before we knew it, fallen soldiers began to rise up, creating a zombie army like 'that'!

The skeletons were already deceased before that fight, so they'd no meat to reanimate. But even with no muscles that wouldn't keep them down, oh no, up they went with their rattling frames like it was just another day in the mines.

The dungeon? Oh, ho ho, that's a topic for another time I'd say. I'm running out of paper space with all my scribblings of undead!

Entry 04 - 'World Evils'
All this talk about the so-called 'World Evils', but even I don't know how they work!

It was after we fought the Eldritch Squid, yes him again causing problems for all us down here, it just seemed to emerge from the ground beneath him! Like that! Hideous noise it made, too, especially with all the dirt caving in.

As the caves opened, unnatural creatures began to emerge from the entrances. Floating out, crawling out, you name it! It was gross, but also quite intense to watch with all the chaos happening just because we repelled some intergalactic cephalopod!

Well, they've been slowly spreading ever since. That poor dryad girl is so worried about it, I sometimes actually feel guilt for her. Actually, on such a note, maybe mentioning the dryad in those documents might help some people if someone comes looting my pages behind me noggin.

Entry 05 - 'The Dryads'
Or, now, probably closer to 'Dryad', singular.

Dryads are ancient, been around here longer than even I have, and they protected the world from threat. Kept everything running smooth, you see, back when the worst thing you had to deal with was a weird-looking bug or two.

Of course, when the Eldritch Squid appeared, they were the first line of defence. They battered and bashed it about with their magic, all right, but many casualties happened. Many. She might be all that's left of their species now.

Young... I mean in dryad years she's young, I mean she said she's 500, which is quite old for a Terrarian normally... but she's surviving. Taken such a heavy toll quite well, even still able to crack jokes sometimes and reject gun man's advances.

Makes me somewhat reminiscent of the calm times, you know...

Entry 06 - 'The Dungeon'
I called it 'the big gloomy place on the hill' for ages, but the Terrarians apparently had a name for it: the dungeon.

It was a place used to put away criminals, they say, but only the bad ones. A labrynthian maze seems a bit extreme for trying to steal a torch from the merchant, after all, but with a war going on there were many who want full-on anarchist and caused even more havoc! Not what we needed, honestly.

Then there are numerous zombies and skeletons forced in there after the war to keep them out of the surface, plus the odd slime that fell in with their stupid aimless hopping.

Problem is, with such strange unnatural energies being gathered all in one place, something was bound to go awry. A curse befell the dungeon from within its own walls, and soon anyone who dared approach became a slave to it. Good thing I kept my distance then, I guess.

Entry 07 - 'Goblins'
Constant threat since they arrived here... well, more annoyance than threat, but they try.

Bad-mannered individuals who want nothing more than to steal and destroy Terrarian settlements. They have ranks and individually enhanced skills and such, but no real game plan outside of butt-rush anything they see. Great plan until someone builds a house on stilts or makes a couple of small pits outside. Bet they wish they had building supplies with them now, eh?

Though, with all this bad talk, I'm sure I'll find one who's nice somewhere, yes? Surely there's at least one good goblin out there.

Entry 08 - 'Old Ones'
Strange portal appeared and scooped up the Dryad and threw out this bald man. Weird.

Along with this, they even brought over their own goblins! A little less rude than their native counterparts, but their unhealthy obsession with smashing weird purple crystals is odd. Maybe it holds some significance to their small goblin brains?

Well, this didn't last long before strange mages and other ugly things emerged. After they smashed another weird crystal the Dryad was thrown back, weirdly exited, and returned home.

What in the actual heck did I even witness?

Entry 09 - 'Jungle'
Deadly lands for foolish adventurers. Idiots go in and find themselves being eaten by the plantlife! Imagine dying to a big plant! Hah!

Back on my ramblings, the jungle is super dangerous but also interesting enough to talk about, unlike the snow place. Full of monstrous plants and giant bees and hornets, not to mention rumours of strange lizard people in a large dungeon-like temple, but I have yet to see such things, so likely just hoaxes to keep people from entering.

I have also found and explored strange colossal bee hives whilst I was down there. I found a larva encased in honey, but I daren't touch it; if that's the size of the larvae the full-sized bee must be massive!

Entry 10 - 'The Underworld'
Rumour has it that, somewhere beneath the caverns, there is another place. A fiery land filled with lava and demons where a creature lies that can break the seal on this world.

I have seen it myself, so it is true! True I say! I found many strange things down there in my travels. Slimes of pure lava, fiery bats, and twisted demonic figures that were carrying strange dolls around that look like one of the strange Terrarians that live in a settlement nearby my cave at the surface. Should I tell him?

I also found large buildings with chests inside. I broke a lock and looked in, finding some interesting loot. I hid the evidence and slipped back to the surface through a crack in the underworld's ceiling, so nobody should know I was even there.

I wonder, though, what would happen if you threw that doll in the lava... I've read tales it would- no, no, this isn't the place for fairy stories, is it? No.

End Notes
Different from my usual stuff, to be honest, but I finally got around to making this. I mean having a crazed old thing scribbling down useless info about creatures and environments whilst making mini doodles turned out not to be as daunting as first expected when broken down into smaller chunks...

This is something I planned to work on all the way back when Terraria was officially announced to be getting lore, but due to reasons let's be honest it was anxiety I didn't apply, so I made some non-canon lore from a random character who has tried to document his (its?) findings.

Anyways, this is the only one thus far, but if this garners any amount of attention I might do a 2nd part as well, either more pre-hardmode stuff, hardmode stuff, or maybe even some actual bosses or something.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed :)

Not sure, since I have a few other projects going on at the same time, so at the moment this one's not really at the top of the priority chain at the moment, so probably after I finish one or two more of those I'll try and get to work on the next one of these :)
