Ancient Guide
By Dcethe
Not all is clear about this race, sometimes they can be confusing an people have no idea where to start or what they should do with them. I'm making this guide to hopefully answer some of your questions on who are the Ancients and how to successfully set up your own Necro Kingdom.

This is a short guide to help you understand on how to play as the ancients ( This assumes you have basic Knowledge of the game, if not check out this https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1647230246 )
*Due note, that my sources of info come from the wiki and my personnel experiences while playing them.

What are the Ancients
The Ancients are a immortal race of beings who have mastered the use of Void magic. They are divided into 4 classes that each have their own special perk. As of now the Ancients are a WIP Race so things are up to change in the future.
The Mage
This Class is entirely focus on using magic to fight enemies, because of this they are unhelpful in the early game and should only be used later on when your Settlement is up and running.
    Perks :
  • Each level increases the skill of Fight Magic
  • They have a favored buff of 3 to Fight Magic
The Summoner
The summoner is the second most important class for your settlement. Their main priority is to insure that there is plenty of slave labor / meat shields to provide the backbone of your colonies work force.
    Perks :
  • Each level increases the skill of Evocation and Fight Magic
  • They have a favored buff of 3 to Evocation
Thaumaturge
The most important class for your settlement. They are in charge of making all of the spells, armor, and other equipment for your Ancients to wear.
    Perks :
  • Each level increases the skill of Voidwork, Carry and Fight Magic
  • They have a favored buff of 3 to Voidwork
Arcanist
The Arcanist is basically a laborer but with magic. Basically they do not specialize in anything, but they can do a bit of everything.
    Perks:
  • Does not increase skills for each level
  • Have a favored buff of 3 to Fight Magic, Voidwork, and Evocation
  • Every 2 levels gives a buff of 1 to Fight Magic, Voidwork, and Ebocation
Where do I begin?
Your primary focus during the start of your settlement is to get an immortality chamber set up. This is vary important due to the fact that when your Ancients run out of energy, they not only do not regain it but they can also die to void sickness without a chamber to slumber in.

All that is really needed is a single Void Cell and a Void Sarcophagus. Adding more Void Sarcophagus in a room is useless unless your Ancients are in a relationship together, in that case they will sleep in the same room.

Once you have all of your chambers set up for your Ancients, you no longer have to worry about them dying. Ancients do not require food, warmth, or any of the other needs that the weaker beings comprised of flesh need.

Now that all of that is taken care of, you have plenty of time to start setting up your Workshops. Here is a list of all the workshops unique to the ancients and what they are used for.

Chaos Construct
This is your version of a Smithy, to make this room functional just build a Void Shard, Void Forge and a stool together and there you have it!
What can you make? Here is what the Chaos Construct can be used for:
  • Aeternums: Crowns of power given to those permitted to perform the ritual of Immortality. The beginning levels of these crowns only give extra energy for your ancients, however if you dig deep enough to the lower levels Levels 1-10 you can find gems filled with magic that will provide bonuses once you craft the special Aeternums.
Primarch Aeternum - Uses Seabreeze Saphire - provides a small +1 bonus to all magic skills
Invoker Aeternum - Uses Sunrise Opal - provides a big +3 Bonus to Evocation
Dominator Aeternum - Uses Forest Emerald - Provides a big +3 Bonus to Fight Magic
Architect Aeternum - Uses Amber Opal - Provides a big +3 Bonus to Voidwork

  • Spellbook of Cleaving: The most dangerous spell available to the Ancients. Each strike rolls for 3d8+4 damage, meaning at minimum you are doing 7 Attack, with a max of 28! This stacks with the Fight Magic Skill.
  • Spellbook of Force: Doesn't deal as much damage as the Spellbook of Cleaving but it does force back enemies denying them the chance to hit you. It does 2d6+2 meaning a minimum of 4 damage up to 14 damage max.
  • Arcane Dust: Used in Summoning Imps as-well as crafting Aeternums.

Summoning Chamber
The room where you get all your favorite forms of free labor! As of now there are only 2 creatures that you can summon. All Summons cannot equip any items and cannot change their professions.

Void Woken - Ancient spirits composed of pure energy that are summoned from the void using 4 void sharks just so that they can carry your garbage. The higher your Evocation skill is, the higher the level they start off as.

They are the Jack of all Trades, but master of none. Also they do very little damage, but serve as great meat-shields for your Ancients! Alas they die after using up all of their energy. When they die they drop 2 void shards

Void Imp - An actual physical being summoned from the void using 4 Arcane Dust. they serve as great miners but are good at nothing else. Unlike the woken these guys won't die if their energy runs out however they will die of old age whenever they reach around 20 years old.

Retrograde Arcanum
Right now this only serves as 1 use - to turn Void Shards into Void Crystals.

Transmutation Chamber
This is where you can convert your raw materials into void shards - so you can keep up with your summons without having to rely on finding void crystals through mining.

Farsight Beacon
This little guy here is extremely helpful. This lights up ancient ruins underground so that you know the location of your fellow Ancient brotheren and loot. *It has been updated you can get ancients through immigration, but they don't have children like regular races. This is one of the ways to get more ancients*
What else is there?
Once you progress through the game and set up all of these workshops - you are free to build of your small settlement into a massive city, maybe a castle or perhaps an underground tomb for your ancients to slumber in. One of the features of the Ancient is that you have all the time in the world to accomplish your objectives so think of it as a sandbox. Maybe think of some goals and challenges to keep yourself occupied playing these guys like so:
  • Explore Ancient Ruins ( You might find some Stasis Crystals, Loot them to free an Ancient
  • Build a fortress for your Ancients to rot in for the next century
  • Settle in the most difficult spot you can so you can have some FUN fighting locals

P.S: If you need any help, just ask bellow in the comments. I'm happy to answer any questions you guys have

PouterHiro, I had 4 events in one run for ancients migrating, 2 came with advanced void sickness, 1 died before able to rest. Seems to be a regular positive storyteller event.

I did get a event today where a Ancient showed up on my boarder and asked to join. I could say yes or no. I said yes. BUT was attacked not long after, not sure if tied to that or happenstance

You actually CAN get Ancients from a random event, effectivly an immigration event. There is an event where a void sick Ancient shows up, you either take them or send them on their way. They start with 0 energy, but otherwise there is no downside.

You should include info on their crowns and the different gems that can be mined in the lower levels.

Thank you, I just started the game and being a necromancer had to go with the ancients first. Had no clue about anything getting started and had to retry once i lost all my workers.

Are you able to have multiple ancients in one chamber? Or do you have to have their own individual chambers
