Kithara's Skyrim VR Mod List
By Kithara
This list shows the mods I use for Skyrim VR.
The goal is to get way better graphics than vanilla and to get the best immersion in VR as possible.

I'm using those mods with a Valve Index and a GTX 2080Ti with supersampling set to 150% at 90Hz with motion smoothing disabled and get some reprojection on the outside world and none inside dungeons or buildings.

This is not a complete modding guide, if you need those there are already plenty (I would start on Reddit at /r/SkyrimVR).
It's just the list of my recommended mods.

Install a mod manager (Vortex)
It is very important that you use a mod manager to be able to resolve and avoid conflicts between mods and to keep them up to date. It's also the easiest way to get rid of a mod you don't like.
I use Vortex from Nexusmods, it's open-source, it natively supports SkyrimVR, is easy to use and just works.
You can get it from here: Vortex download page[www.nexusmods.com]

In Nexusmods, use the "Mod Manager Download" button for each mod to automatically add it to Vortex where you can enable it, disable it and resolve detected conflicts with other mods. The load order is automatically sorted the best way by using a downloaded master list from Nexusmods.

Important SkyrimVR settings:
Open %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Skyrim VR\SkyrimVR.ini and change/add the following lines:

This will make the shadows stop flickering:
[VR] iShadowUpdateFrameDelay=1

Physics fix for all HMDs at 90Hz:
[HAVOK] fMaxTime=0.01111 uMaxNumPhysicsStepsPerUpdate=1 fMaxTimecomplex=0.02222

For 72Hz (Oculus Quest) use:
[HAVOK] fMaxTime=0.0138 uMaxNumPhysicsStepsPerUpdate=1 fMaxTimecomplex=0.0276

For 80Hz (Oculus Rift S / Valve Index) use:
[HAVOK] fMaxTime=0.0125 uMaxNumPhysicsStepsPerUpdate=1 fMaxTimecomplex=0.0250

For 120Hz (Valve Index) use:
[HAVOK] fMaxTime=0.0083 uMaxNumPhysicsStepsPerUpdate=1 fMaxTimecomplex=0.0166

For 144Hz (Valve Index) use:
[HAVOK] fMaxTime=0.0069 uMaxNumPhysicsStepsPerUpdate=1 fMaxTimecomplex=0.0138

Recommended in-game settings:
  • Disable Dynamic Resolution (important)
  • Untick “Disable LOD” options and set the Tree Lod slider to max.
  • Activate “Realistic Archery” (use the bow like in "The Lab" from Valve), "Physical Sneak" (you have to crouch for real) and "Realistic Swimming" (move your arms like you swim).
Essential Mods
The first three mods are not from Nexus and need to be installed manually:

Additionally recommended:
  • Sovngarde - Mist's Font Replacer[www.nexusmods.com]: A font replacement, more convenient without loss of readability.
  • Achievements Mods Enabler[www.nexusmods.com]: Get regular Steam achievements with your modded version of Skyrim.
  • FallrimTools[www.nexusmods.com]: Includes ReSaver, which is a powerful savegame editor/cleaner for Skyrim Legendary Edition, Skyrim Special Edition, and Fallout 4. Use this with your savegame if you remove a mod or some script goes haywire (this may even happen with an unmodded Skyrim at times).
Better Graphics

Additionally recommended:
ENB Shader for SkyrimVR. The shader has only a slight performance impact with the settings below and it's very worth it in my opinion.
Better Sound
Better Immersion

Recommended Additions
Very useful mods:

Additional content:
  • Cutting Room Floor[www.nexusmods.com]: A mod to restore several pieces of cut content in Skyrim Special Edition.

  • The Forgotten City[www.nexusmods.com]:
The Forgotten City is the first mod in history to win a national Writers' Guild award for its script. It is a critically acclaimed expansion mod offering a unique 6 - 8 hour experience.

  • Best pal: INIGO[www.nexusmods.com]: a fully voiced khajiit adventuring companion with over 7000 lines of unique dialogue.

Great List! I picked the ones I liked the most. I would add (The Sharper Eye - a lightweight VR ReShade preset), seems to work well with the ENB listed here and does what it says. Game looks great and plays great, thank you for this list!

Is it a problem if Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch says its missing masters?

It seems to be missing ccBGSSSE001 along with 025, 037, and 001 as well.

I agree with using Wabbajack. The only thing is that you need to be a nexus mod subscriber to automate your installs.

Avoid Immersive Armors, Immersive Patrols, and JK's Skyrim. All 3 of those are confirmed to bog down the script engine in later saves that causes tons of issues, especially in VR. Like a few folks have said, just use Wabbajack and download FUS. Use that as a base for adding your own mods. It's all handled by Mod Organizer 2 so if you add a mod that's broken, or screw something up, it's all easily fixable.
