BOOSTING: WHY and HOW to Enjoy it
By SHASTA and 1 collaborators
This is a guide made from experience boosting a lot of players over the last 9 months.
I made this guide to fight the stupid amounts of misinformation, mainly that you can't boost without ruining the "experience" or the "great story" for yourself. I think that the design of the game is unfriendly to people who don't start this game at the exact same time as their friends, or who find themselves ahead or behind their friends while playing. I want to explain a simple strategy for Boosting while underlining the fact that you CAN enjoy the story at the same time.

NOTE: Enjoying the game while getting boosted requires having a Booster who cares about your experience, and taking your time. However, the time you will save with these tips will help you get the most out of your game, until you make it to the "End Game" and REALLY start having fun. If you just want to boost fast and without a headache - this guide will work too.

Preface: Boosting Ruins Nothing
Boosting "ruins" nothing. Nothing at all.

As I said in the Description, this guide is to refute the misconceptions about boosting in Tom Clancy's The Division. It is also a handbook for how to boost effectively. It's not the ONLY way to boost, and it does not guarantee that that character being boosted will be able to enjoy the boosting process, but it gives some pointers and tips aimed at ABSOLUTE new players in an attempt to encourage them TO get boosted, and assure them of what to expect while doing it.

If you somehow get a team of late gamers who don't care about your game, they will run you though at a breakneck speed. Sometimes people don't know how to correctly boost characters in this game, which yes, make the experience bad for everyone involved, namely because the method used can greatly increase the amount of time needed to do this. You can STILL explore the levels, and discover the story, if that is what you are worried about regarding the boosting process. Moreover, this game is largely based on replaying missions from the story, the plot never really leaves the frame of the gameplay, so it is possible to enjoy it all again multiple times, even while playing in the End Game and getting important loot for your builds.

If you are in a hurry to not be a burden on the people boosting you, or if you are not happy sitting back and letting the friend help you reach the much more interesting, cooperative, and enjoyable end game... You won't enjoy getting boosted, you will feel like you are missing out, and you might just quit before you ever get there. You might quit the game entirely at that point, especially if you wanted to play through the story with a friend during your first playthrough.

This is because there IS no easy way for a person to play with you unless they are within 5 levels of you at any given time you play. What's more is, their missions and unlocks won't match yours, so one of you will be out of step with the other at all times. It's really annoying trying to play with friends who are "getting into the game", especially as a leveled player, but trust me when I say the gameplay past 30 is THE REASON you bought The Division. So just relax, get boosted, and let the magic happen if you want to have a lot of fun SOONER rather than LATER with your buddies in the late game. Claim your rightful place among the Community, don't play alone, get boosted and discover why we love this game... Understand why people who love this game often sight the poor design of the campaign as one of the worst parts of the game. Well, by that I mean I think it's really bad design.... ... Anyway!

I've lost a lot of chances to bring my friends into this game. A lot of them even spent a lot of time playing and walked away after seeing the long path to 30. I wish I had a guide like this when I first got my pals to play with me, I even tried to boost some of them without this knowledge, which made it a LOT harder on us. So, let me share with you all the way I think is best, in order to skip the long, drawn out, annoying tutorial that is the campaign. In the end I will have a dank page sharing TONS of resources for you to use in the end game, so that you can have all you need to make your characters as strong as possible.

Let's dive into how I think you should go about that.
-How to Boost Properly: Step 1-

-> Follow Mission Order. XP scales as you go, this allows you to be sure the boosting gets you upgrades that you need, and helps ensure you don't miss main missions.

The missions in the game have an order. The booster should get you to join them on WT5, then ask you what your next mission is, or help you figure that out. When you JOIN a game, the map SYNCS to the Host's game progress. Therefore - you will ONLY see a WT5 player's missions as "Completed"... To TRULY understand where you are in the campaign, study your map in your own session first.*
There are 3 types of missions for the 3 wings of your base, but there are also obviously marked "Enemy Level" labels on the left of the map screen when you select a mission. Follow the levels up to 30 in progressive order. This order that you see is how you are meant to progress naturally. Your booster then runs the missions in order (in WT5) from where you left off, they should know that order themselves. It's not super important what order you go in but the XP from later missions is a lot more. Leveling scales, so running Consulate or Grand Central one time will see you gaining maybe 4 or 5 levels below 15, but if you played Times Square maybe you will get only 1 or 2 below level 15... So take my advice - do each mission, in order, ONCE, and finish the campaign on WT5. Trust me, you DON'T want to be face-rolling one mission - even late game missions - in order to boost someone. The shorter your gaming sessions are, generally the more you want to follow my advice here and stick to the Campaign mission structure in order to maximize your time. More important is my next point about recalibration.

-> Recalibrate for KXP ASAP and every 7 - 10 levels.
The booster must prioritize getting your Recalibration station unlocked, while giving you all the loot from the missions that drop for them. **If this is your very first character on this account You MUST SELL ALL OF IT.* Of course, you can choose not to but you could be needlessly extending the time needed for you to reach 30.

Once you have the Recalibration station, you roll 'Increased Kill XP' (KXP) onto your Vest, Mask, and Kneepads. At regular intervals (every 7-10 levels), you should go back to a vendor, Buy a new Vest, mask, and kneepad, then recalibrate for KXP again, rolling a few times to get as CLOSE to the max % you can get on those pieces of gear. If you do this, you will be getting 40%+ more XP from kills made by your whole team. These are WT5 kills, so they already will be making up the bulk of your "Boosting" as it is.

This can shave another HOUR at least of facerolling WT5 missions after you finish the campaign to reach level 30. It's a HUGE tip and one that sadly most don't take the time to do.

* You must sell most of the loot dropped by the Booster, because you need all the credits you can get to afford recalibration and new gear in the early game.

- Unlocks, Skills, and the BoO -

Next you unlock the Security wing, which the very first and only unlock you can make at the start gives you 10%xp from all sources. I usually get the Pediatric Center in the med wing next for another medkit. Skills I would choose are Pulse and revive Medical Station. Pulse gives your booster the edge with more CHC, and revive station is great to save their ass if things get wild. These generally work well at low skill power too - so unlike turrets or shields they are more useful in WT5, where your low skill power means your turret won't do enough damage, or that your little baby shield will melt after 10 shots. Another option is the Gas Seeker Mine, this is very effective against many enemy types, helping your booster get the initiative in a fight. Also your grenades will give important debuff status effects, so if things start heating up, chuck some different nades. Shock the heavy enemies, EMP Engineers, gas doorways... Anything to be useful!

After this, talk to the booster about an Ultimate. Maybe they don't care, maybe they want you to have green, or yellow, whatever - you will need to unlock all of them once you reach 30. Choose one to unlock first and save points to do that, it's a game changer. You can spend points on other skills/upgrades from other wings, for example if you are saving for the Blue Ultimate, go ahead and buy upgrades for the green medical and yellow tech wings. Just save Blue points for the next upgrade you need to unlock the "Blue" Ultimate: Survivor Link

All of this is important because after ALL the missions are finished you will be 27-28 level, with 2 levels to go. Usually at this point you do the side missions in Midtown / Turtle Bay, net your 30 WT1. You'll want to be able to come out swinging at that point, ready to play after taking a backseat for so long.

IMPORTANT: With about 4-5 missions to go, your booster should be recommending gear that is good for you to keep. These will be: 2 weapons, 1 pistol, and one gear piece of each type. These are WT5 256+ drops that you will use to unlock WT5 for yourself once you reach level 30. To unlock WT5 and gain access to the top tier RNG for drops, simply put on gear until your Gear Score reaches above 256.

These will also be the pieces you will use to get started so, make sure that they are something you like. Are you an assault rifle player? Get some good ACRs. Are you into skills and turrets? Save those green Tactician pieces and that specialized backpack your Booster told you about... You like Shields? Get those D3 pieces and keep some good SMGs that you find.
Once you hit 30 you will put this gear on, go to WT5, and start getting XP for your "Field Efficiency" Caches that drop instead of level ups. These are very important sources for Classifieds and Exotics early on, you will get some good stuff from them.
- End Game -

Finally go max all 3 wings of your base. Explore, collect lore, open your Dossier and check out recordings or Commendations you may have missed or not known you had, watch some lore videos on youtube, some build videos, etc. All of this will fill in any gaps left by your experience in the Story. (The next section has a ton of these links, check it out!)
Did you miss something? Play the level again at WT5! ...You will get more drops, more gear, and you will be able to see the story bits again. You'l see them EVERY time you play the missions. If you are a first time player with friends in the late game, YOU CAN enjoy the game while getting boosted.

Look at the gear sets and start collecting 4 pieces to try. Check out the 6 piece sets and see what they give you. Try more weapons and learn more about talents, experiment with combinations of attachments and mods. Check the Last Wave Vendor Sheet for info about where to get this weeks unique end game items for sale across the map. Read the recommendations, watch (mostly old) videos about builds for 1.8.3 ... Join the Discords both Ubi Division 2 Discord and Division Subreddit discord to find people to play with, both have Division 1 LFG channels. ... The Late Game is where it's at and it is a lot of fun in my opinion, one of the best Multiplayer RPGs out there - especially if the Open World style PVP Dark Zone is your thing, like it is for me.

The Division is what you make it, much like any other game, it's about what you want to get out of it. NYC in Division 1 is FULL of little places in the map that tell a story, it was made with a lot of care and attention to detail. The story really is like a very long tutorial, the game will drag on for a long time if you let it, and honestly I think that the end game is more enjoyable when you still have stuff left to do, places yet to see, etc. This is coming from a player who got all collectibles, incidents, and side missions before getting to WT5. So DON'T HOLD BACK, go play, meet new friends, rek, get rekt, get good pieces to finish your sets - and most important - Help this game survive!
Boosting is one way to bring people into the best parts of the game, so return the favor!!

You don't need to ask what build you need to farm Resistance. You don't need a team to farm Resistance.
Resistance is boring. Friends don't ask friends to farm Resistance with them.

...You don't need a classified build to farm resistance. Here is how you do it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LDB's Builds are really damn good.
This is the channel I go to when I want Build Videos.
Ninjabike Survivability build for PVE, variants of this would be great for a player just starting to gather pieces and put builds together. You don't need to use Classified pieces or even the Ninjabike to see results with set pieces. Specifically a low tech version of this build would allow you to farm resistance solo...
(which... I still don't understand why people want to do but, they seem to want to do it!)
https://youtu.be/SEFHtS4qsX8

When you get a Ninjabike you can start rocking some standard Hybrids like Pred-Shee.
This in my opinion is the Definitive Pred Shee build video.

Whenever you want to know about good builds, watch LDB or 357. They've got what you need.

My experience was ruined by bad boosting. I gave this game a try back in 2017 when my friends were telling me how great it is. So I gave it a try during free weekend. I was just running around while they were pushing forward levelling me up. After couple of minutes I said I'm not enjoying it at all and I never got back to it until recently. Just playing solo, joined by me friend who too just started the game and I'm having a blast :)
