Guide for Left 4 Dead beta

In here, you can get some TMI from me. And some interesting history of Turtle Rock Studios Left 4 Dead, which is basically a "Left 4 Dead Beta".

This guide is requested by FJURIX (Steam user), and i thought i could do it. Also, this is for you too. Hope you enjoy!

[ 1. BEFORE YOU READ:
You might already notice, but this is not "Left 4 Dead (Beta)" that can be played and is installed on your Steam library.

I'm about to show you the Turtle Rock Studios versions of Left 4 Dead which was released for beta tester on short period of time during 2006~2008. ]

OK,
In here, I will write down some things that has been unused and deleted from retail Left 4 Dead. (sadly, no concept arts. Sorry. I'm only preparing to show you the in-game.)

And just so you know, only Turtle Rock Studios. No Valve thing, OK?

If this page include some Valve history, then it's my mistakes, you can just ignore it.

As far as i can remember, Left 4 Dead was meant to be a 90's horror movie zombie survivor which is player feels like they are in a real movie.

You see, most of the maps except safe spot was usually darker, and animations for reload was more detailed and slower.




What kind of TRS Left 4 Dead content was actually cooler than retail version?


Well, you see... There's a tons of crazy details and contents that has been cut before Steam version. Unreleased sound track or sound effect, materials and texture. cut feature.

Let's see if i can explain you a few things if you don't mind?
OK,


1. Different survivors model.
2. Players can blocked each other.
3. Sound effect (such as footstep, reload, gun sound).
4. Larger gun firing particles;
5. Rough and dirtier gun texture.
6. You were able to give health kit to others instead of HEALING them.
7. Older infected model.
(Zero is the modified beta-ish version that has been remake by 'Zero' Steam group.)
8. Beta reloading animations.
9. Different survivors layout color

10. Different Molotov, Pipe bomb texture.
11. Survivors often yell each other to get them in hurry every time when they blocked each other.
(or loop sounds of moaning when they hurt a lot, same goes when they spot some special infected, as a matter of warning such as "Back, back, back!" or "Turn around, man!".
12. Different Boomer ability.
For example, when Boomer got killed, any survivors near him receive health damage instead of attract zombie hordes

13. Smoker was being able to chocking neck, not wrapping a chest.
14. Removed kill icon.
15. AFK animation for SMG goes same with single pistol idle standing pose.
16. No cut scene for "No Mercy" on rescue. You were be able to ride a helicopter slowly fade away from the building, within the Minigun attached on the left side.
17. While using a ladder, you were be able to see both of your third person's arm.
18. Whilst eating pills, survivors make a sound of man doing a moaning. Not sure if Zoey making a same sound tho. I apologizes. (You can find this sound in game file!)
19. Only "No Mercy" was playable during TRS beta.

Also, just in case you might not notice... TRS version of Left 4 Dead were actually managed to use the Source engine. Not Team Fortress 2 engine.

Alright, i think this is enough TMI for some interesting feature?

Next one goes like this;
# 1
On second version, a little bit of something has been changed and i will show you what has been changed.

First, survivors can walk through them each other like Team Fortress 2.
But they can still bump into one of the members of zombie, or special infected.

Also, now Louis has a bullet holder on it, and jacket has been changed to hoodie!

As you can see, Uzi has flashlight on the grip, and now, the current reload animation and old reload animations are both showing.


Also, i have to say that some of the stages during game play has been changed, and almost goes same as retail version...
Such as gas station part on No Mercy, only way out of the gas station was to go through the windows. Soon it has been removed by developers, consider the dangers of stand right next to a explosive gas chamber. So how it has been changed? well, they came from restaurant, not gas station. In fact, the alley before restaurant looks exactly same as before for the path to the gas station, though.

There's not much I can say about this version (thanks to my little knowledge), but in this version, model of survivors is almost exact same as final.
Plus, HUD picture has been updated.

And you might notice that some of the voice lines for survivors here has been removed. Such as horde warning sounds, or special infected sounds.

As the video goes, at the beginning of the horde warning music, you might realize that short piano cover is playing and to be honest, i kinda like it. It gives me the creep.


Zoey's model looks kinda odd to me though, in this one, she directly using TRS head with the clothes of retail version.
Also, Francis' model has blue jean with final version top & final version head without a beard and clean face.
Louis is completely same with the final version, as far as i can remember, some people say texture for his watch using different materials, but i'm not sure.
For Bill, his face texture has been changed. But with a final version clothing.

Looks like Bill is being able to using his own mark on the hat, thought.
# 3 (E3 Beta)

Now, we're in a last part aren't we?

Now survivors are now almost, i mean almost similar.
And most of the retail contents and features has been put together in this version.

For example, reloading animation is exactly the same as final.

And most of the chapter that can be played in final version of Left 4 Dead has released in this version, I assume.

i thought the afk ideal animation is still i nthe final game since i still see it in final game

I have a whole MODPACK for l4d1, which brings back the old cocking reloading (And if you play single player, you will have the reload animation for picking up new weapons AKA cocking the gun), actual good looking beta player models, medkit animation and holding animation, music, cues, red boomer blood (Actually gets on your gun and clothes if you look down at your clothing.) I don't really like Splink's models due to the fact that they use a lot of placeholder textures and never said that. Also their eyes. Just their eyes. Nothing else except the unknown placeholder textures.
