Locations of all Plants, Books, Insects, and Cranes

This guide will show the locations of all of the plants, books, insects, and paper cranes in the game.

There are 4 achievements that correspond to finding all of these. I should note that at the time of this guide's creation, 3 of these achievements appear to be broken. The broken achievements are "Giant Nerd," Collateral Damage" and "You Bladerunner."

It is my hope that the developer will fix the broken achievements in the near future. I will update this guide accordingly if any of the content should change at that time.

There are a total of 18 plants in the game. You only need to water each plant once to count for the achievement.

There are a total of 23 unique books you can interact with. These are the ones that are readable upon closer examination. A few books show up again in different locations (these are marked as duplicates in the list below).

All of the books shown below are readable but not all of them count towards the achievement. It has also been pointed out to me that the two copies of "Algorithms to Live By" are actually different.

There are several groupings of insects encountered throughout the game. They are listed below in chronological order.

TIP: Use your datavision to easily see any insects on screen, particularly when exploring the ventilation paths.

KITCHEN
Number of Insects: Ant Trail x1 leading from the toast on the floor to the pantry.
Days Accessible: 1


PANTRY
Number of Insects: Roach x1 on top of spill.
Days Accessible: 1


KITCHEN
Number of Insects: Roach x3 on top of spill.
Days Accessible: 2


VENTILATION PATH OFF ATTIC
Number of Insects: Roach x4 - three are easily spotted. Keep going towards the blue blockade to grab the last one.

VENTILATION PATH OFF JELLYTANK ROOM
Number of Insects: Roach x1 near the blue blockade.
Days Accessible: 6


VENTILATION PATH BEYOND HIDEY-HOLE #2
Number of Insects: Ant Trail x1 around the dead end loop.

Location of Cranes
Corresponding Achievement:

There are a total of 11 paper cranes that can be picked up in the game.

MASTER BEDROOM
Number of Cranes: 6 - on and around the desk.
Days Accessible: 3


STUDY
Number of Cranes: 5 - on the shelf near the entrance, by the computer and books.

For anyone still trying to get these last broken achievements...
It's been over 3 YEARS now with no fix despite developer promises, so I am done holding my breath for it. Such a damn shame too since I really did enjoy this game but the broken achievements soured my overall experience.

Here is the easiest way to get these last achievements. Yeah it's a "cheat" but the way I see it, we went through all of the work already (multiple times in my case). They just didn't pop in game like they were supposed to.

I missed the book on my first play through, but I was able to interact with it on my second playthrough and, when I did read it, I got the "Congratulations, Giant Nerd" achievement. Perhaps this is a bug? But I do find it odd that I didn't trigger the achievement till I read that particular book.

That's the book that's broken in the current build of the game, and the reason why the Giant Nerd achievement is not unlockable.
The dev has recently said that a patch is coming in the next ~2 weeks, and if the patch does fix this, then the Guide may need to be updated. Until the game is fixed, the issue is that the Guide must choose between (a) being incomplete or (b) being inaccurate.

Bo Wyatt - Are you sure? I played through to Day 3 again just now and double checked the library and I couldn't interact with that book. When datavision is activated, it doesn't light up green either.

Day 3, Library, there is a fourth book you did not list. Life Off the Grid - located next to the armchair in the bottom right of the room.

Thanks Genghis Pawn! I'll add the clarification about specific broken achievements and your note regarding "Algorithms to Live By." I wanted to list the location of all books that were readable regardless of whether they counted towards the achievement or not, but it's nice to know which ones actually do. I'm also following that thread you've linked in case there are any updates. Thanks again.

You might clarify which achievements are broken (in the current version of the game: 2.1.0-2.3.0) -- "Giant Nerd," "Collateral Damage," and "You Bladerunner."

Note that (in v2.1.0-2.3.0) the copy of "Algorithms To Live By" on the bed in the Master Bedroom is not a strict duplicate of the one in the living room; the contents are slightly different (this one is signed) and it needs to be read in addition to the other copy to count towards the achievement (although, since the achievement is broken, this doesn't really matter).

Also (in the current version), the following do not count for the achievement: The duplicate Photo Album, Cecily's Diary, all Experiment Files/Notes, and David's Journal. That could change.
