Get the game to work

The game doesn't start because of a sound bug! It doesn't work with 5.1.
Put the speaker configuration on STEREO ! Now the game will start without crash.

For example:

Change the resolution

Ingame you can't change to a higher resolution over 1280x720p i guess.

Found the res.aitd file in C:\users\user name\AppData\Local\Atari\AITD and open the file with notepad.

Before you are changing anything: Create a back up file of res.aitd file (like "res-backup".aitd).
Use a resolution that your monitor supports.

Original:

ResolutionWidth = 0800 changeable
ResolutionHeight = 0600 changeable
NewResolution = 0 DON'T change
PrevResolutionWidth = 0800 DON'T change
PrevResolutionHeight = 0600 DON'T change

Changed (for example my resolution):

ResolutionWidth = 2560
ResolutionHeight = 1440
NewResolution = 0
PrevResolutionWidth = 0800
PrevResolutionHeight = 0600

Save the file!

Start the game and have fun!!!

If you don't find a res.aitd file in C:\user\user name\jAppData\Local\Atari\AITD, do this.

Download the files "d3d9.dll" and "d3d9.ini".

Extract it and copy both files into game folder:

Example path to game:

D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Alone in the Dark
or
E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Alone in the Dark

Attention! Note:

The wiki page says that you should edit the res.aitd file like this

ResolutionWidth = 1920 (2560)
ResolutionHeight = 1080 (1440)
NewResolution = 0
PrevResolutionWidth = 1920 (2560)
PrevResolutionHeight = 1080 (1440)

For me nothing has changed compared to the instructions above.

ResolutionWidth = 1920 (2560)
ResolutionHeight = 1080 (1440)
NewResolution = 0
PrevResolutionWidth = 0800
PrevResolutionHeight = 0600

worked too!

Hi @Ric the Angel

Have you tried a clean installation? And then started the game without your old savegame to see how stable it is over the course of hours? Have you reset the game in the settings except for the resolution? Maybe there is a conflict there. Otherwise, go from the checkpoint to the other checkpoint in the game to the end.

Unfortunately I can't help you on this point. Does the game always crash at the same point or could you work your way from savepoint to the next savepoint? Greatings

Here a little problem that happens to me all the time: After about an hour of playing the game it always crashes. I already did what was needed to fix that, including downloading that files.
Does someone know, how i can avoid the game from crashing? Sometimes it did crash at a bad timing and i had to go through many stuff again

the game boots, but no matter what i do, i can't start a new game. I don't have a "save game" because everytime the game finishes creating onde, it crashes :(

putting it on stereo also did nothing.

personally i gave up already. i've played it on my old ps3 but looks like it's gonna be just a memory after all.

but i'm really grateful for you trying to help us, little brother. we need more people like you in the world and i'm happy for the people you got to help

@NeverSleep and @Kawaii Penis Gameplays Do you want to start a "new game"? Does it mean your first try was successful? When you have a save game and want to play a "new game" delete it or cut the "save game" and put in a "backup-folder". If not and you want to start it first time don't delete ad videos at start. Open windows-system settings and put the speaker configuration on "stereo". Please tell me if i could help.
PS: I tested the game on my PC again and it works fine.
