To use your example, MVictorP, most light guns maximize damage by using 1 specific ammunition and a buff hammer, so a Gunner is unnecessary because the other 2 ammos they carry will never be used. Therefore, by making the Gunner switch to an Engineer, the captain can maximize damage without sacrificing any of the repairing power carried by the crew. In fact, the crew gains repairing power because an engineer can take both a pipe wrench, a buff hammer and a fire tool.

This is a debate that could go on forever, but the short answer is that the Captain has his plan, which the crew are not aware of unless they are told. If the crew doesn't follow the Captain's orders, then obviously the Captain can't carry out his plan.

I like captains who gives the crew clear orders, otherwise it would be a mess, such as crewmate fight for a position during the game, 3 guys at the lower deck on pyramidion , shooting Gatling with burst, no main engineer, etc.

To tell someone "(gunner), bring some Heavy clips" or "(engineer), bring an extinguisher" is one thing, but telling something like "(gunner); switch to engineer and pack buff, extinguisher, mallet and bursts and stick to the rear gun and balloon" is another thing altogether.

Poeple come to play. Most of them will be okay with orders, but some other are more retractive, or at least want to try their way first. Giving orders anyway works way better after a bad performence.

A good captain should tell the crew what to bring, because some people don't check the ship's and teammate's loadout, hence they always brought the wrong equipment

That is a short 'n' sweet list.

About the 11th item; I'd advice to just play the first match, see how it goes, and then make corrections if needed. Item 11 is true, in the sense that the Commander (the one that proposes the ship) has last word - you disagree, leave his/her ship. But on the other hand, the commander must at least assume that his crew have a basic understanding of the game and their own experience, too.

I hate it when I board a ship in the lobby, and the Commandeer immediately tells me me to change role and dictactes all tools I should bring. When it happens, I politely leave.

Dude, you need to learn from others to become a good player, you can't possibly know everything in this game all by yourself, that way you won't be able to work with your teammates well, become a ignorant mofo and you'll develop bad habits too

Because I wanna play as I want, and learn from that.
