Introduction
You, the player, are in the shoes of Miley Verisse/Mairu Hibisu, and your goal is to recruit at least three given characters. Cherry Tree High Comedy Club is a mix of managing leveling up skills, finances to fund training, homework from school, and trying to get a good conversation with potential recruits. All of this starting from March 22nd to April 30th.

There are 12 conversation topics to upgrade: Video Games, Whodunnit, Music, Art, History, Politics, Romance, Fashion, Sports, Travel, Pets, and Cooking (each with their respective icons). Each topic has a level, starting at 0 and maxed out at level 5. They can be increased by buying/reading magazines, visiting the movie theater/museum, participating in certain events, etc.

In each target preferences, the yellow smiley face means that the recruit likes the topic, giving a good boost to the relationship. A red smiley face means the recruit really likes the topic, giving a massive boost to the relationship. However, in conversation, if a topic is one that the recruit dislikes, it will set back the relationship. The goal is to reach the 5th stage of a relationship to finally recruit the character.

Tips
Here are some tips to help with improving the game and getting close to the end:

  • Avoid topics that recruits DISLIKE, as it does not progress anywhere in the relationship and wastes time.
  • Save the topics that recruits LIKE or REALLY LIKE for the stage 3 or 4 of the relationship to boost the probability to recruit them quickly.
  • Once you use a topic in conversation, it will be gray and no longer available, so plan wisely (except for chit-chat).
  • Casual chit-chat is available for all characters and can be repeated, unlike the other topics, however, it improves relationships by a little. Only use it if at school (and don't want to read their magazine or do homework).
  • A higher level skill for a topic (like 2 or up) improves the relationship more than casual chit-chat (but can't be repeated.) Level 4 to 5 topics that recruits are indifferent about can still boost relationships quickly (near instantly in the early stages of the relationship.)
  • Evenings in the room with Harriet/Hoemi is the only time you can save your game, so plan the day before the evening. Save often though.
  • Roam around before doing an activity that will pass the time. Items can be found at the Shopping Precinct, Station, Port Garden, Park, Shrine, and front of the Dormitory, on the floor. They appear as glowing gold circles on the ground. It can be either: an empty bottle (collect ten to give to Dina for $3.00 bonus), a random magazine to help with skills, or dog dirt (useless).
  • The more expensive activities, such as watching movies and visiting museum displays or speaker will improve learning skills a lot, however limited with only certain topics.
  • Topics to aim for to level up a lot should be: Music, Pets, Romance, and History as they have multiple recruits that like them.
  • It is fine to chat to the potential recruits about topics they are indifferent to, as higher level of knowledge, the bigger boost to get to the next level of the relationship.
  • Do not be scared to ignore one or two characters to recruit for your first or second playthrough, as the game will have a New Game+, but that is only available if you get the proper ending (not the bad ending.) New Game+ will save the level of your skills from the previous playthrough.
  • Evenings are probably better spent reading topic magazines or sleeping in early as work and phone calls do not give big dividends.
  • DO NOT HIT F12 UNLESS YOU WANT TO RESET THE GAME. (It will send you back to the main menu.)
  • ALT and ENTER (at the same time) gets you into full-screen mode.
  • F1 is Graphical Improvement Menu (but no resolution change.)
  • Work (such as Prosperity Shrine or Museum) if there is less than 2 drops of Fatigue, anymore will cause Miley/Mairu to slack at work, giving some money penalty.
  • Four Fatigue droplets will cause Miley/Mairu to faint in the evening, causing a skipped Evening.
  • You can have one drink and one food per day.
  • Buy the cheap Cuppa Tea and Jelly Donut for money efficiency. Consuming both may reduce a half of a fatigue droplet.
  • When in "Need for Speed" mode, working will double the money output.

But the biggest tip of all is: Enjoy yourself!

Thanks to this guide, I got the good ending on my New Game+ with half a month to spare and only two playthroughs (got 3 members on my first one)! Definitely recommended!

So, it seems getting friends is pretty hard after all. In my first playthrough I had 2 recruits and another at level 4. It hurt to see the bad ending. Thanks for the tips. :happy_creep:

Even though talking about a disliked topic does not add progress, a relationship level-up can still happen if you have already reached the limit by chatting at school / on the phone.
