Introduction
The Lone Traveler is a fun challenge to do, you'll have to complete the game solo, that means you'll chose your character at the beginning and you're not allowed to recruit anyone else until you complete the 4 acts of you main character. So this sounds challenging but it's not that hard when you know how to abuse the mechanics of the game and you have the right strategy.

This guide holds detailed info to progress with any of the 8 characters as I did the challenge with everyone in parallel. If you follow the guide carefully it's even possible to earn your Fleetfoot achievement (complete your journey in under 8 hours) while doing it as the guide have between 5-7 hours of gameplay content to finish it, but speedrunning is not the focus of the guide. It is definitly possible to skip some grinding in the guide to make it even faster and still be able to complete the achievement but here I'm giving you a path that will give you a descent level, abilities and gear to make your experience the easiest possible.

Also, since I did a Low Level solo playthrough, I decided to include some of its content for your entertainment. So if you'd like to see what it looks like to beat Esmerada (Tressa's chapter 4 boss) at level 12, then check up the last section of this guide. I'll explain to you how this was made possible and you'll see all 4 boss battles.

Note:
If you have any problem seeing the videos linked in this guide you can always check them on Youtube. For a reason I don't understand when I clicked on my own video in steam it sometimes creates an error and I don't know why. My youtube channel is "Marcv1285" and every video featured in this guide will be under a playlist named: "Octopath, Lone Traveler videos [Steam guide]". You can always check my old playthrough as Tressa in another playlist but there are still some nice improvements in this guide that were added up after this run. So the most up to date info is in this guide.

* This guide has been an incremental work for a lenthy period of time. The first version of if was about 2 pages only and was covering only Tressa. I don't know why but since I purchase this game I always comes back to it after a few months to try new things and improve my knowledge of the game. So no wonders that the guide becomes better and better with the frequent update I do. If you have any questions I'll be happy to answer and add that info to the guide if this is relevant. Also if you find any error in there, please let me know and I'll fix whatever is wrong. Thanks for your understanding.

  • Q - Why Tressa doesn't need any Staff in this guide to output damage with spells?
A - The way it works when you cast a spell, the game calculate your damage using the equipped weapon with the highest Elem. Atk. no matter what your weapon selection is for the turn. It's not necessarily related to your staff even though staff usually have high amount of Elem. Atk. In the case of Tressa for this challenge she has access to buy the Rune Glaive spear which has the highest Elem. Atk. you can get in this challenge, so this would be your main weapon for dealing damage with all your spells.
  • Q- Is evasion any good in this game?
A- Evasion is just terrible in my opinion. If you stack a lot of it you can actually evade a lot of hits, and the stat can actually shines on specific encounter where a boss for instance have low accuracy. But in general the problem I have is its consistency. I mean, this is based on randomness and even if you have high evasion, you'll sometimes have spikes in missing your evasion rolls. For instance you could evade 10 hit in a row but right after that miss your evasion for 2-3 hits in a row getting you killed. Most of the time defense gear performs better in giving you consistency to your intake of damage, but if you would like to give it a try with evasion, I would recommend you stack as much as possible and have all your gear specialized in evasion as selecting only 1 or 2 piece of gear giving evasion don't work well.
  • Q- How does healing works?
A- Healing with a spell is not the same as healing with an item. If you heal with a spell it will be calculated using your Elemental Defense stat, the higher the stat is, the higher the healing will be. With items on the other hand it uses fixed value. Although one thing to note is the Refreshing Jam & Revitalizing Jam uses your Max HP/SP to output value. So if you have equipment or passive that raises your Max HP, this will also raise the healing of your Jams. Also even though the Elemental Defense only affects healing spells, Heightened Healing support skill (Healing 30% more effective) affect both spells and Items. So this can be relevant when combining with Saving Grace support skill which enable you to heal above Max HP.
  • Q- How do I survive the boss when he has 6 actions in a row to hit me as this can happens when I act first during the current turn and last on my next turn, given that the boss has 3 actions per turn?
A- Depending on the situation there might be better option available but remember that when you use Defend this will make you act first on your next turn (unless the boss recovers from his broken state). Let me explain a little better how this can save your ass. So usually against strong opponent you'll want Saving Grace support skill equipped (Healing above max HP). As you probably already know with that support skill equipped you can't heal any more once you are already above your max HP. So for instance if you have 2 000 max HP, you could very well be at 4 000 HP or 2 001 HP and in both cases you can't heal anymore. So with the above situation, let's say the boss does 500 damage for each of his actions, and he has 3 actions per turn, so in that scenario the boss would do 1500 damage each turns. The problem is when you act first on the current turn and last on the next turn, it creates a situation where the boss will do 3 000 damage total for 6 actions where you can't react, so if you would be at at 4 000 HP, no problem, you survive with 1000 HP left, but if you are at 2 001 HP you can't heal to that 4 000 HP. So do you see how having your next turn sooner can be critical. What you need to do in that situation is Defend, making you act first on your next turn. So the boss will hit you only 3 times for 1 500 damage (minus what you absorb through defending) and then on your next turn you can heal back up above your max HP to take the next 3 hits and use boost points while healing to heal up to 4 000 HP if you were again to act last on your following next turn (against those kind of bosses it is wise to always have some boost point available to get out of trouble when needed). If you have Leghold Trap (Hunter ability) it can work as well for the same reason. This trick is especially important to understand if you play as H'aanit in this challenge (against Dragon, her chapter 3 boss), but could also be used by any other character when you need it.
  • Q- Is the Golden Axe any good?
A- No it's complete trash, all these websites, posts and videos about this weapon is outdated info from noobs. In fact almost everything I saw on the web regarding how to progress fast in the early stage of your playthrough is garbage. If you want to power up your character or even your full party, this guide has way better stuff for you to start fast.
My personal Character Ranking!
You might have questions about which character you should pick for your playthrough. Picking up your favorite character might just be a good reason enough to make the challenge with him/her, but I'll share my own opinion about who's best and worst for this challenge and my reasoning behind all that.
  • Tressa: my #1 pick in the list.
    • Her Buy ability gives her insanely good equipment compared to other characters, this talent is what makes Tressa the fastest character for this run, you'll be able to run an elemental build like no others. She's also the only one being able to get the Forbidden Bow which increase random encounter rate, very good when farming Exp/JP.
    • Buy also allows you to get many Nuts which is super good in a solo challenge. This is not to be underestimated, it makes a huge difference.
    • Tressa have the best 2 abilities in the game for beating difficult bosses, that being Hired Help and Sidestep. No wonder why every other characters equip the Merchant subclass to beat their final boss.
    • Every other characters took me 7 hours (game time on my savefile) to complete. Tressa was the only one I could do in 5 hours. That stat speak for itself, being able to cut 2 hours in the run over everyone else.
    • Her final boss battle was among the easiest to kill. And the 3rd chapter boss (Venom Tiger) was definitely the easiest of all to do. Basically you just steamroll through the achievement with Tressa
  • Therion: my 2nd pick.
    • For all the reason above with Tressa's Buy ability, Therion have almost the equivalent with Steal. Giving him access to equipment and nuts which is huge. I consider Buy better because you can throw money and get the item easy whereas steal can be a pain in the ass when you only have 3% chance, so you'll have a slightly slower start with Therion compared to Tressa... He will also be missing the Forbidden Bow which is kind of a bummer but all things considered steal is still insanely good compared to other options below.
    • Therion can open Purple locked chest. That will allow you to get some very nice weapon such as a Viper Dagger, a Knowledge Staff and Holy Longbow, you'll even get a few extra nuts (2 or 3 i think). So these are very nice addition to what he can do.
    • Final boss (Darius) is also among the easiest boss to beat.
    • I think the 7 hours of game time to complete his run was me figuring out too late how to farm with him in Maw of the Ice Dragon. I think I would lower the time significantly if I were to run with him again. He's almost as good as Tressa in my mind.
  • Alfyn: my 3rd pick
    • Inquire isn't as good as Buy/Steal, but unlocking new equipement in the shop is significant in what you get. The level requirement on Inquire is sometimes annoying, but hey, leveling up your character isn't too hard. You'll be able to get your hands on a few more nuts as well with Hidden Items.
    • His Last Stand ability will shine the most with a super powerful Axe (Death Cleaver) available in Everhold Tunnel. Equipping the Hunter Job will give you a nice setup to farm in Maw of the Ice Dragon. (best place to farm Exp/JP in a solo run)
    • Jams are already super powerful but Alfyn can also Concoct which is super strong, you'll be able to heal yourself for 9 999 HP easily with the right items against your final boss.
    • Final boss (Ogre Eagle) was also easy to beat. Just need to avoid bad luck (bad status at the wrong time) but the odds are clearly in your favor.
  • Cyrus: my 4th pick
    • Like Alfyn's Inquire ability, Scrutinize will be good for the same reason, I'd say even better because he doesn't have a level cap allowing you to trying your luck on NPC, just need to reset the game if you fail to many times.
    • His 2-hit AOE spells are VERY good, too bad he has limited access to the best equipment to boost his spell power, but at least with his 2-hit spells he's also able to farm efficiently in Maw of the Ice Dragon.
    • Final boss (Lucia) is not necessarily the weakest boss even though she's fairly easy to beat anyway... Although of all 8 final boss Lucia is the one I enjoyed the most battling against. The strategy with her having 3 completely different phases was just something fun to craft a strategy against. If your goal is to have a fun final boss, then I'd consider Cyrus the best pick.
  • Ophilia: my 5th pick (close pick with H'aanit)
    • Aelfric's Auspices is pretty insane ability! You'll use that with Hired Help on your last boss. Having that combo option is just too fun not to mention.
    • Ophilia isn't too bad, she has some nice tools but unfortunately she lacks good equipment to make those skills good enough to fight in Maw of the Ice Dragon (best dungeon in solo to grind your exp).
    • Guide is not that useful against random encounter it performs very well against bosses if you pick up the right NPC to break their defense.
  • H'annit: my 6th pick
    • Capturing monsters could have a lot of potential with some monsters' broken ability, but i'll have to revisit some strategy in the future around this another time maybe. I've always found alternative to play without the need for it. If she had an especially hard boss to beat then I would probably go into deeper knowledge around this. H'aanit might very well be better than what I'm giving her.
    • Provoking NPCs is probably the worst ability of all because you'll have to consume your captured monsters to beat them which is just a lot more time consuming (having to capture monsters) than any other character's ability.
    • What's good going on for her is the ability to farm in Maw of the Ice Dragon efficiently, which could be an argument for her being an even better pick than Ophilia.
    • Her final boss isn't too hard to beat, but she has the hardest chapter 2 & 3 boss to beat. Since you level her up easy it won't pose any problem but I think it's worth mentioning.
  • Primrose: my 7th pick
    • I just love her, if I was a NPC in the game I'd follow her everywhere! :) Well that's probably my main reason why she's not dead last on my list. How could Simeon be such a jerk to her!
    • It's not that the character is bad but she doesn't have Tressa or Therion to give her their spoils, so she end up with poor equipment and not strong enough to farm in Maw of the Ice Dragon. She even have a hard time farming in Southern Wellspring Sands (the lower ranked area) compared to other characters. Primrose is the most difficult character to level up late game.
    • Final boss is among the hardest to beat, you'll want to time up a strong final burst of damage for his final 50% of life to beat him to avoid prolonging the fight as much as possible when he gets a 3rd actions per round. But if you want a good difficult challenge then Primrose might be good for you.
  • Olberic: my 8th (last) pick
    • Easy chapter 1-2-3. Olberic starts very strong in this challenge, but once you finally face Werner (chapter 4 boss) you finally realize why he's dead last in my ranking. Werner hits like a truck and it's not easy at all surviving him, especially when he gets a 3rd action per turn at 50% of his life. To defeat him you'll need to carefully plan out the fight and have the right strategy. If you want the hardest final boss battle possible, then Olberic is for you.
    • Have access to some of the best weapons in the game with Challenge ability but the drop rate of those items are just awful and is not worth taking the time to obtain them unfortunately.
Chapter 1
Now upon starting a new game you'll be prompted to chose your character. For this challenge, anyone can do it so chose whoever you like the most but be aware that some characters have it a bit easier than others. Check up the previous section if you want my own opinion on each characters but take it with a grain of salt as even Olberic (my last pick) wasn't too bad to complete so if you like a character, go for it and it will be fine no matter who you picked.

You can expect Chapter 1 to be very easy as it's not any different from any normal playthrough, I'll give highlights anyway on some information of what you should get during this phase of the game.

Flamesgrace
  • Shop: Quartz Rod
Path & Cave of Origin (save your JP)
  • Guide: Knight Ardante (skill: Repeated Strike - Sword) he's just in front of the cave's entrance
  • Chests: Silver Hairpiece
  • Boss:

To beat it quickly you can summon your Knight Ardante (NPC) to break his defense faster and you can ignore the Dark Wisp when he summons it as when you kill the boss his summon gets dispelled (this is assuming you are able to kill it before the Wisp explode in your face but if you optimize your turn it shouldn't be a problem).

Atlasdam
  • Shop: Quartz Rod
  • Scrutinize: Light Soulstone (M) (Girl)
Subterranean Study (learn Lightning Bolt as your first skill)
  • Chest: Wind Attire
  • Boss:

Rippletide
  • Chest: 500$ (inside tavern)
  • Shop:
    • Wolf's Bow
    • Round Shield
Caves of Maiya (learn Hired Help ability, then save your JP)
  • Chest: 1000$
  • Boss: (reward: Ice Soulstone (M))

You can kill this boss very easy if on turn 1 you use Tradewind on Makk and on the next turn you call the bandits with Hired Help (boosted) for the kill on turn 2.

Cobblestone
  • Shop:
    • War Spear
    • Round Shield
Brigand's Den (save your JP)
  • Chest: Black Cap
  • Boss:

Sunshade
  • Shop: Arcane Knife
  • Guide: Old Man (skill: Trash - Spear) he's just at town's entrance
Sunshade Catacombs (learn Night Ode, then save your JP)
  • Chest: Empowering Earring
  • Boss:

This is the easiest boss of act1 in my opinion, get rid of the Lackey by casting Night Ode first to break them, and another boosted Night Ode to kill them, then summon your NPC to take Helgenish's defense, when stagger just cast your single target spell and he's pretty much dead after only a few turns.

Clearbrook
  • Shop:
    • Arcane Hatchet
    • Round Shield
Caves of Rhiyo (learn Last Stand, then save your JP)
  • Chest:
    • 500$
    • Invigorating Nut
    • Bronze Vest
  • Boss:

Bolderfall
  • Chest:
    • 1000$
    • Iron Helm (purple)
    • Stigning Dagger (purple)
    • Broadsword
  • Shop:
    • Arcane Knife
    • Round Shield
Ravus Manor (learn Steal SP, then save your JP)
  • Chest:
    • 800$
    • Wind Attire (purple)
    • Invigorating Nut (purple)
  • Boss:

S'arkii
  • Shop:
    • Bronze Helm
    • Bronze Shield
I prefer buying armor with H'aanit instead of a weapon because she has her summons to output damage, also don't waste time capturing Tier 1 monsters, it's not worth the time as they don't outperform Linde which you can call him unlimited amount of time.
Path & The Wisperwood (save your JP)
  • Chest: 500$
  • Boss:
Getting the Evasive Maneuvers passive
Now that act 1 is out of the way and the world opens up to all the Continent of Orsterra, you'll want to get the Evasive Maneuvers passive ability as soon as possible as this will enable you to get very good stuff early on. If you play as Cyrus (the Scholar) all you need is 130 JP to learn it. Otherwise you'll need to get the Scholar Job first. Remember in Chapter 1 where I said to save your JP, this is where you'll invest your points.

So what I would suggest to you is to get the 130 JP first. This will require you to kill a few monsters. While doing so there's a few things you can do like getting to every tier 1 town in order to be able to teleport there anytime and along the way there's a few chest I would recommend taking. Don't bother with the brown painted chests, the goodies are in red chests (1 purple if you play as Therion).

  • East Atlasdam Flats: 500$
  • North Rippletide Coast: Fortifying Nut
  • Rippletide: 500$ Tressa should already have this one during her chapter 1
  • East Rippletide Coast: Magic Nut
  • North Cobbleston Gap: 1200$
  • North Cobbleston Gap: Magic Nut (locked, Therion only)
  • South Cobbleston Gap: 1000$
  • Southern Sunshade Sands: Old Coin (sells for 1500$)
  • South Clearbrook Traverse: 500$
  • North Bolderfall Pass: 1000$
  • Bolderfall: 1000$ Therion should already have this one during his charper 1
  • North S'warkii Trail: Slippery Nut
  • Western Flamegrace Wilds: 800$
  • Western Flamegrace Wilds: Critical Nut

Cyrus & Tressa only: During your chapter 1 you acquired a Soulstone (M). Tressa got an Ice Soulstone (M) for killing Mikk & Makk and Cyrus got a Light Soulstone (M) for Scrutinizing a Girl in Atlasdam. So what this item allows is to kill monsters in The Whistlewood which will give a lot more JP than your regular monsters in level 1 zone. This is a one time use only but it can speed up your grind significantly. In theory Alfyn and Therion could also use this trick, but they should encounter enough monsters on the way that it won't be relevant by the time you get to the Flatlands. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp0lYmMdW_A
Once you have 130 JP, I would recommend getting Evasive Maneuvers right away. So what you would do is go to North Atlasdam Flats and make your way to the save point. From there go North and enter Western Noblecourt Flats. The Scholar job will be in the south east corner. Before you can reach it you will encounter a Giant Sheep and a Night Raven, this is odd but you always get the same group of monsters the first time you enter this area. This is not easy but you need to run from it. It may take a few attempt but if you die, just retry your luck until you are successful.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDiUz67gj3Q
Personally I like trying my luck and don't care too much dying a few times but if you prefer taking a safer approach there's another way to get your Evasive Maneuvers without dying. So we know we have to Flee from battle against a Giant Sheep and a Night Raven. Both monsters are weak to bow and if you would be able to break both of them this would guarantee 100% success rate to flee. So in case you didn't figure out already you will get the Hunter subclass first for its Arrowstorm ability for only 30 JP. Yes the Hunter Shrine is also in a zone with dangerous monsters but the good news is that you can abuse the save point in East Victor Hollow Trail to reset the encounter rate and walk unscathed into the shrine.
https://youtu.be/XnpXhjqekF0
When unlocking your Evasive Maneuvers passive, if you play Tressa I recommend choosing Lightning Bolt and Lightning Blast for this guide as she will make good use of it, otherwise it doesn't matter what you chose at this point.
Abuse the Evasive Maneuvers
It is now time to fully exploit the Evasive Maneuvers passive. This will allow you to unlock all the Subclass and get most of the town teleportation point. Only Northreach and Wispermill will be left missing as going to those 2 towns requires you to be able to run against high level monsters, it's not impossible to do but it will be far easier later. Obviously getting some money on the way would be very helpful to buy some of the expensive stuff but no worries, there are many chest scattered around the Continent of Orsterra containing a lot of money, so while we unlock our Subclass and towns teleportation, we will also chase specific treasure chest that contains money.

Money in this challenge is very good, even if the gear you seek doesn't cost that much you may use your money to Hired Help with Merchant's ability. This will be useful against many bosses. So take every chest there is with money. If you are unsure how to get all of them, check further down below, I'm providing tips and a video to help you out.

Coastlands
  • Undertow Cove: 20 000$
  • Goldshore: 4 500$
  • West Grandport Coast: 20 000$
  • Lock of the Lost King: 30 000$
  • Grandport: 25 000$
Flatlands
  • Whistlewood: 1 500$
  • The Hollow Throne: 4 000$
  • Western Noblecourt Flats: 5 000$
  • Forest of Purgation: 20 000$
Froslands
  • Hoarfrost Grotto: 10 000$
  • Maw of the Ice Dragon: 30 000$
Woodlands
  • Path of Beasts: 4 000$
  • East Victors Hollow Trail: 5 000$
  • Shrine of the Archmagus: 20 000$
Cliftlands
  • Carrion Caves: 6 000$
  • Derelict Mine: 10 000$
Riverlands
  • no chest
Sunlands
  • Marsalim: 25 000$
Highlands
  • Spectrewood Path: 5 000$ (this one is missing in the video below, forgot you could access this zone even if you are not H'aanit)
  • Shrine of the Runeblade: 50 000$
  • Everhold Tunnels: 35 000$
  • Tomb of Kings: 9 400$ (wait for this one, we have to go there anyway later)

Tip #1: You can abuse Zone Walls and Save Points as zoning in/out or reloading your savefile will reset the amount of step you do before encountering enemies. Combining this trick with Evasive Maneuvers passive will allow you to go almost everywhere and reach places you normally wouldn't be strong enough to go to. If you need help on this, check out the next video where I do abuse the game's mechanics many times. Do note also that there are a few zones where it is very tight to avoid monsters, the most obvious are East Duskbarrow Trail and South Orewell Pass, depending on your luck you might get an encounter even if you do your best. If you stumble a few times don't worry too much you'll eventually reach the save point safe after a few try.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaBDRCMd2Ng
Tip #2:
Tressa only: This is totally optional but if you play as Tressa you may want to farm the Marsalim Catacomb and abuse her ability to find leaves left behind by an unfortunate soul. This is the most brainless and easy way to farm money and is pretty fast too. If you prefer this method over traveling everywhere hunting for chest containing money you have that option available as Tressa. Hunting for chests is faster but only if you know exactly where to go without assistance, if you took all the chests in the previous video "Tip #1" and follow everything in the guide you should not need to farm here, I just thought it was a neat trick to know if you ever need more money and you have Tressa.
Once you're in that dungeon, just run to the boss, decline the fight (to reset the encounter rate), run a little more, come back to the boss, decline the fight again and run to the exit. If you've run enough it will net you 5700$ each time. Repeat until you have enough money for your needs.

Buying Gear
Now that we have all the money we need and access to most of the town. Lets gear up our character with the best stuff to start your grind. Following is the build you will use in the Tomb of Kings, either with Tressa or any other characters.
  • Tressa only: If you are playing as Tressa you have more options available because of her ability to buy stuff from NPCs, I really like going full elemental with her (I will sometimes refer this to be the "Elemental Build"), so here is what you should aim for with the Scholar Job enable (242K needed):
    • Spear: Rune Glaive (Grandport) - Best weapon for raising your Elemental Damage
    • Bow: Forbidden Bow (Goldshore) - Usefull to increase encounter rate, equip only when needed
    • Shield: Forbidden Shield (Grandport) - I never really used evasion so I didn't care about it's negative effect
    • Helm: Elemental Hat (Saintsbridge) - +61 Elem. Atk.
    • Armor: Sorceror Robe (Noblecourt) - +50 Elem. Atk., can also be bought at Everhold
    • Accessories 1: Elemental Augmentor (Stonegard) - +100 Elem Atk!!!
    • Accessories 2: Protective Necklace (Grandport) - nice +80 resist
Therion only: It is possible with Therion to steal most of the items from the Elemental build (items above) and get the Knowledge Staff (333 Elem. Atk.) instead of the Rune Glaive and it would prove to be better than the other option below but at very low level your chance to steal any good thing is 3%, so if you want to save and try your luck I'm not here to stop you but in my opinion it's not worth the time for now, later as you level up the percentage will rise for some items and it will become more easily accessible. Also Therion has access to Adamantine Hat if you want the best Elemental Hat. Should you want it, it is located in a purple chest in Maw of the Ice Dragon.

If you need any help on the exact location for all of the items above check out the following video.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkJrkPva1OE
  • Else if you are playing any other character than Tressa, I recommend playing with the Apothecary subclass since there's a very powerful axe available in a chest in Everhold Tunnels (I will sometimes refer this to be the "Axe Build"). So here is what you need in that case (60K needed):
    • Axe: Death Cleaver (chest: Everhold Tunnels)
    • Shield: Knight's Shield (Grandport / Marsalim / Riverford)
    • Helm: Oasis Hat (Everhold / Marsalim)
    • Armor: Platinum Vest (Grandport / Northreach)
    • Accessories 1: Protective Bracelet (chest: Quicksand Cave, Wispermill: you'll get access to this town later)
    • Accessories 2: Bright Stone (chest: Tomb of Kings)

Therion only: If you play with Therion I would also suggest you go get the Viper Dagger in Marsalim Catacomb (Sunlands Tier 3 dungeon), it's in the purple chest near the save point, it's hard to miss. Having a good dagger can be useful when using HP Thief & Steal SP ability and you'll also benefit from the +speed. Also go get a Holy Longbow in Dragonsong Fane (Cliflands Tier 3 dungeon), once again it's in the only purple chest up the stairs, it shouldn't be difficult to find. This bow will be useful later on.

Again watch the following video if you need exact location for these items (missing the Bright Stone in this video, you'll get the item in the next section anyway cause we are going to fight in the Tomb of Kings).
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F93g_i9fUIM

This is not required but you could also buy a bunch of Inspiriting Plum at any Provisioner (town) they sells cheap at 240$ each and if you don't care managing your SP until you get some decent passive that helps with your resource then that items could save you some valuable time.
Exp/JP grind #1
Axe Build only: If you play the Axe Build (Apothecary Setup), make sure you have your "Last Stand" ability unlocked before going in the Tomb of Kings. If not I would recommend going back to the Whistlewood (Forest in the Flatlands near Atlasdam) and fight 1 group of monsters to get the 30 JP required to unlock your first apothecary skill. Some monsters in there are a pain to fight because of the Blind debuff, but the good thing is they are rewarding in JP compared to monsters in level 1 zones so really you'll only have to endure 1 fight and it's pretty safe place even at very low level if you have followed the guide from the beginning.

So if you have all the gear from previous section and have either your Lightning spells (Elemental build) or Last Stand (Axe build) unlocked, then you are ready to start your first grind of this achievement. Up to mid level 30, the Tomb of Kings in the Highlands is the perfect place to start your training. Around half the monsters in here are weak to Lightning (Elemental Build) and many are also weak to Axe (Axe Build) so either build you play will perform very well in that dungeon. What's amazing about the Tomb of Kings is the Sentinels often comes in groups of 5 making area of effect abilities very good and rewarding.

Axe Build only: The only thing you'll have to be careful in the Tomb of Kings is your first few battles if you play the Axe Build. The ninjas can debuff your character with Blind status. If you don't have yet the Bright Stone (protects against Blind) it could be dangerous but getting the item in that dungeon will be your priority. The Bright Stone is in the top left corner of the map, so get that accessory ASAP and equip it.

Next tip is about managing your SP wisely... Leveling up can be your main source of regenerating your SP until you get some good passive (Second Wind and SP Saver) as leveling up will refill completely your SP, so take advantage of that mechanic. If you have yet many battles to fight to level up and you are empty of SP because you were trigger happy at spending your ressource, then you can use Inspiriting Plum, this item sells very cheap at any provisioner (240$ each). If you play as Tressa you can use her Rest ability instead. (just spend 100 more JP on your merchant job to learn Rest as soon as you can)
Therion only: If you play as Therion, equip yourself a good dagger, this will improve the amount of SP you can drain using Steal SP ability. If you did get the Viper Dagger mentioned in the previous section, make sure it is equipped.

Tressa only: Don't forget to equip your Forbidden Bow if you play as Tressa, it will speed up the process. And don't forget to remove it when you are finished and use the Evasive Maneuvers again as they cancel each other out.

First few minutes of my farming as Tressa. Also taking the Bright Stone as first chest.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trk_66ERRHY
Your objective here is to have enough JP to learn the following Passives/Abilities, you should be somewhere around mid level 30 when you're done, I ended up getting level 34 with all characters when finished, except Tressa because I skipped SP Saver here with her (was level 29 with Tressa):
  • Second Wind - 3rd Dancer passive. Recovering SP is a no-brainer here. This should be your first passive you aim for. You'll get Eye for an Eye as your 2nd Dancer's passive, if you play the Axe build use it as soon as you can, it will help a lot.
  • SP Saver - 4th Merchant passive. Halves SP consumption is very good.
Tressa Only: If you play as Tressa with the elemental build you can wait later before getting this one because SP is less of a problem with her at this point (she can always rely on her Rest ability). If you wait to get this one with Tressa it only means you'll move quicker to the next farming zone which will give more Exp/JP and it will be your first passive to get once there anyway. This is just a tip to optimize the time it takes to complete the achievement. You do however need to get the following passive.
  • Vim and Vigor - 4th Scholar passive. Recovering HP each turn will be very good when we go train in higher level's zones. This will also give you access to Elemental Augmentation which is very good if you are playing the Elemental Build.
  • Arrowstorm - Hunter ability. Should only cost 30 JP and this will be usefull in reaching Wispermill Town.
  • Ophilia, Tressa, Olberic only: Thousand Spear - Warrior ability
  • Olberic, Alfyn only: Amputation - Apothecary ability
  • Primrose only: Luminescence - Cleric ability
  • H'aanit only: Rehabilitate - Apothecary ability
  • Therion only: HP Thief - Thief ability
More stuff to get!
Depending which character you are playing, there are additional items that will be very useful against specific monsters, bosses or even just to get the 2 remaining town teleportation. Not all the following will be useful with everyone but since they are easy and fast to get why not take them all right now and think later what you need to equip:
  • 2 x Unerring Bracelet (buy at Grandport) +50 Accuracy, useful in getting to Northreach town
    * Edit: You can Skip buying Unerring Bracelet, this item is only usefull to get past the Reptilios on the way to Northreach, however I've just found a better way to break them. Instead of buying this items for 5 800$ each, instead you just need to pay 800$ with Hired Help (bandit) to deal 2x unavoidable axe damage to them.
  • Platinum Armor (buy at Riverford or Marsalim) Armor with high physical defense
  • High House's Armor, (chest in Marsalim, fire resist will be useful for some characters).
  • Crystal Helm (chest in Dragonson Fane) Helm with best physical defense
  • Conscious Stone (chest in Dragonson Fane) prevent Unconscious
  • Calming Stone (chest in Quicksand Caves) prevent Terror
  • Antidote Stone (chest in The Hollow Throne) prevent Poison
  • Wakeful Stone (chest in Maw of the Ice Dragon) prevent Sleep
  • Articulate Stone (chest in Captains' Bane) prevent Silence
  • Bright Stone (chest in Tomb of Kings) prevent Blindness (In case you didn't get it during previous section)
  • Tunderstorm Amulet (chest in Moldering Ruins) 99% resist Lightning damage
  • Tempest Amulet (chest in Forest of Purgation) 99% resist Wind damage
  • Therion only:
Geting most of the items for the Elemental Build, only skipping the Sorcerer Robe because at level 34 it's still 3% chance and at that rate it's just annoying and unnecessary, not worth the time. Before stealing, save your game and reload if you failed 5 times. If you need the exact location on those steals, check out in Buying Gear section where I linked a video on where to get Elemental equipments. That same NPC holding the Elemental Augmentor also have a Mighty Belt, get that accessory also, it will be very good later on.
    • Knowledge Staff (purple chest in Everhold Tunnels)
    • Elemental Hat (Saintsbridge: 80% steal success rate at level 34)
    • Elemental Augmentor (Stonegard: 8% steal success rate at level 34)
    • Mighty Belt (Stonegard: 8% steal success rate at level 34)
    • Protective Necklace (Grandport: 8% steak success rate at level 34)
Location of most items above: https://youtu.be/w5DP-C9tdfM
With the help of some above items available to us this might be a good idea to get your 2 missing town teleportation, Northreach and Wispermill as some characters will want to use stores in those towns to prep themself for chapter 2. At this point it won't be a problem. You can either farm a little more JP in the Tomb of Kings to get Evil Ward passive (3rd Cleric passive) to enhance your chance of running away from monsters, but it is faster to setup your character with specific gear and abilities to overcome your goal of running away... Be sure you equip Evasive Maneuvers once again and make use also of the Percipience passive which will prevent surprised attack.
  • Northreach: Using the Apothecary subclass, you will use the Last Stand ability to break the 2 Reptilios to ensure your success of running away. Be aware that the ability can miss often if you don't equip yourself with 2 x Unerring Bracelet, they also hit hard with physical attack so you can equip your Platinum Armor and Crystal Helm to increase your physical defense.
    * Edit: Again, instead of using Last Stand ability you could use Hired Help, the Bandits for 800$, what is nice about Bandit is instead of hitting harder with boost point it increase the number of hit, so you just need to boost with 1 point to break Reptilios on your very first turn.
  • Wispermill: For this one you only need to Arrowstorm the Plains Drake to break their defense, enabling you to run away easily.
This is how you do it if you need any help:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QW5wjvWEWI0
Let's buy all the remaining equipment that will be useful, some characters at the end nearly have enough money to pay the veteran soldier so I advise you to buy only what you need for your character if you don't want to farm more than necessary:
  • Ophilia, Cyrus, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn, H'aanit only: Meteorite Rod (buy in Duskbarrow)
  • Ophilia, Olberic only: Jade Lance (buy in Riverford)
  • Cyrus, Olberic, Alfyn, H'aanit only: Yeti's Longbow (buy in Northreach)
  • Olberic only: Trinity Sword (buy in Northreach)
  • Primrose only: Crimson Dagger (buy in Everhold)
  • Therion only: Steal: Inferno Amulet (99% resist Fire) from Merchant at Victors Hollow.
  • Ophilia only:
    • Adamantine Shield, buy at Duskbarrow or Wispermill
    • Primeval Robe, buy at Duskbarrow or Wispermill
  • Ophilia, Primrose, Alfyn and Cyrus only: Guide/Allure: Patrician Youth in Northgard Valley (east section), or Inquire/Scrutinize: "Gravekeeper's Information" from Nameless Gravekeeper at Tomb of Kings. Then get back to Inquiring Youth in Stonegard Heights (north section). Quest reward: Royal Crest (+600 HP)
Chapter 2 Boss
With the section above done now is a good idea to clear out Chapter 2.

Don't waste time fighting in Chapter's 2 zone, just run to the boss and kill it. With the right strategy you won't have any problem doing that. The following will provide the best way to kill these bosses from what I've tried.

Strategy:
Break his defense using Thousand Spear ability then boost Holy Light to deal maximum damage.

Strategy:
Kill the Dancing Bones first, they are weak to fire. Heal yourself when needed they can output lot of damage for a chapter 2 boss. When there's only Gideon left just Axe him until broken and then use one of your 2-hit spells for max damage.

Strategy:
Ignore Footman and just cast Blizzard to break Omar defense. Once broken you can Lightning Blast (boosted) to deal max damage to Omar while killing also the Footman (weak to lightning).

Strategy:
Just Level Slash all opponent then once they are broken, unleash your Axe Ability, either Amputation or Last Stand depending if there's one or multiple target to hit.

Strategy:
Use Last Stand ability until Dapper Duelists are killed and then switch to Amputation skill to kill Joshua. Tthe only thing annoying is the confuse status you can get.

Strategy:
Just use Last Stand ability until the Disguised Duelist are killed, then use Icicle to break Archibold's defense, once stagger use Amputation.

Strategy:
Kill first the Shield Wielder using Level Slash to break defense, when stagger use Last Stand ability. When only Gustav remain, you can break him with Thousand Spear and use Amputation when stagger.

Strategy:
Break Rufus shield with Holy Light / Luminescence / boosted Staff (depending on the situation). You can ignore the Associate since he can summon more and focus on the boss first.

Strategy:
Sellswords are weak to bow so Arrowstorm them then once broken use Last Stand. When there's only Vanessa's left, just use your axe to break her and Amputation (boosted) for max damage).

Strategy:
First get rid of the Bodyguard, they are weak to ice. At one point spells does half damage so you may consider just using you Knife ability, HP Thief and Steal SP.

Strategy:
This was the strongest boss of the Chapter 2 to me, he does many nasty bad status. We prevent the most annoying with accessories. He can also put you down on 1 HP once he's down 50% or less HP but you should have the time to heal before he finish you off. Might need more than one attempt to beat him but he's not too hard. If you have better knowledge about captured monster than me, you can probably find an even stronger strategy to beat him.
Getting all possible Nuts
With chapter 2 out of the way, we can now start chapter 3 and prepare ourselves for next boss. Here is a list of items worth getting.

First thing would be to get the remaining chest that contains nuts in them.
  • The Whistlewood: Resistant Nut
  • Hoarfrost Grotto: Light Nut
  • Path of Beasts: Tough Nut
  • Carrion Caves: Tough Nut (locked: Therion only)
  • Untouched Sanctum: Sharp Nut (locked: Therion only)

Then you could use your town's ability to get nuts.
  • Steal / Purchase: (Therion / Tressa only)
Therion only: With Therion there are a few nuts with low percentage chance to get. You could either wait on a higher level to get them or save your game and reload until you get them. At level 34 some of them will be only 8% chance and at level 37 it will increase to 15% at level 40 it increased to 55% and so on. It's up to you when you want them (I got the low percentage one at level 40).

    • Rippletide - Marina: Resistant Nut (M)
    • Rippletide - Townsperson: Slippery Nut

    • Olberic & H'annit only: Talk to Servant in Riverford, then go to South Orewell Pass and Challenge/Provoke: Mysterious Knight. Reward: Critical Nut (L)

Don't forget to eat all the nuts.
Exp/JP grind #2
For your 2nd round of grinding not everyone will want to fight in the same area. Most will want to fight in Southern Wellspring Sands but not everyone excel at that place so check out what I recommend with the character you are playing.

Your objective here will be to unlock:
  • Tressa only: SP Saver (4th Merchant passive) remember with Tressa we skipped that one in Exp/JP grind #1, now is a good time to get it.
  • Therion only: Summon Strength (2nd Warrior passive) This is a nice addition for him to farm in Maw of the Ice Dragon.
  • Saving Grace (4th Cleric passive)
  • Heightened Healing (4th Apothecary passive)
You should be around level 44-45 when finished here. (with H'aanit I recommend leveling up to 55 before attempting her chapter 3 boss unless you have a better strategy than what I tried).

Location: Seaside Grotto (chapter 3 dungeon)

Notes: Most monsters are weak to Light or Elemental damage. Be careful against enemy group containing both Fire and Dark Elemental, they output a lot of damage.
Can probably fight in Southern Wellspring Sands also, you can check Exp/JP grind #3 if you need help with this alternate method, maybe it's even better.

Location: Southern Wellspring Sands

Notes: Most enemies are weak to Elemental attack, just be careful when encountering Spiked Skink as he hit hard and cannot be broken easily. This setup allows for healing with Apothecary subclass, use it when in need.

Location: The Forgotten Grotto (chapter 3 dungeon)

Notes: With Percipience passive up, you'll always act first giving you a huge edge in battle being able to break enemies before they hit you (with the right elemental attack). Most enemies have elemental weakness. I recommend fighting in The Forgotten Grotto until you have SP Saver (4th Merchant's passive), then after that you should be strong enough to fight in Maw of the Ice Dragon dungeon (more rewarding) to get your remaining objective of this section. Check out "Exp/JP grind #3" section if you need help with your setup in the other dungeon.

Location: Southern Wellspring Sands

Notes: Most enemies are weak to Elemental attack, just be careful when encountering Spiked Skink, he can deal lots of damage but you can break him with Thousand Spears.

Location: Southern Wellspring Sands

Notes: I had hard time there especially against Spiked Skink, so if you don't like it here, you could grind some more levels in the Tomb of Kings (and maybe come back here at level 40+). Anyway when fighting in the S. Wellpring Area just make sure you save often. You can also Allure a Tavern Patron at Sunshade with Healing Grape (M) ability to help out (sometimes helpful).
Most enemies are weak to Elemental attack.

Location: Southern Wellspring Sands

Notes: Most enemies are weak to Elemental attack, just be careful when encountering Spiked Skink, he can deal lots of damage, just heal yourself if needed.

Location: Southern Weellspring Sand

Notes: Most enemies are weak to Elemental attack, just be careful when encountering Spiked Skink as he hit hard and cannot be broken easily, use your HP Thief ability if you need healing.
I discovered out later a nice setup to farm in Maw of the Ice Dragon (better place), I'm unsure at what level you can handle that dungeon well, but i know for sure at level 45 it's very easy, anyway if you are up to it at this point, check out the Exp/JP Grind spot #3 and start your grind there as soon as possible.

Location: Maw of the Ice Dragon (Tier 3 dungeon in Frostlands)

Notes: Up to around level 40 you may want to fight in the Tomb of King as other places like Southern Wellspring Sands is difficult with H'aanit. After that go to the Maw of the Ice Dragon, the Ice Elemental can be dangerous to fight but if you save your game often the risk is well worth the reward. Most enemies are weak to bow, so use Arrowstorm and finish them off with Last Stand (or use single target skill when there's only 1 monster remaining).
Chapter 3 Boss
Time to clear up chapter 3 boss.

Strategy: Problem with this boss is once you kill one of them the other one goes berserk and can one-shot you very easy (I failed trying to use the Thief subclass), so easiest way I found to kill both of them almost simultaneously was to use the Merchant ability Hired Help. For an easy way to win, cast Sidestep for your first 3 turn as this should be enough physical evasion for the entire fight (no need to boost). Then for the rest of the fight you just cast Reflective Veil while your boost point charge up. When you have 5 boost points stored, you unleash your Veteran Soldier 2 consecutive turn, using all your boost points. Cast again Reflective Veil while your boost point charge up and repeat the process when you have your 5 boost point. After your 4th summon of Veteran Soldier the fight should be over with you victorious.

Strategy: Priority is to kill the 2 Research Fellows, so unleash your Veteran Soldier on first 2 turns (boost skill on 2nd turn). Then there's just Yvon left to kill, he only does 1 hit each turn, so use Sidestep while your boost point build up, you can even cast a boosted Sidestep to store some evasion. Break him with Staff or Spells then once stagger unleash your boosted Veteran Soldier. Repeat the process and he will go down eventually.

Strategy: This is by far the easiest Chapter 3 boss. Just need to hit with Spear, once broken you boost your Tradewinds ability. Just need to heal a few times. the Antidote Stone will prevent his nasty Peerless Poison ability.

Strategy: Use Last Stand ability to kill Lizardman King, don't bother breaking their defense, the Chief will summon them back multiple times but when they return they have half HP so you can one-shot them with Last Stand easily. When the boss is alone, just use your normal Axe attack to break him and use Amputation to output max damage when broken. You'll have to heal a few times but he's fairly easy.

Summon: Kindly Cleric (Saintsbridge)

Strategy: Summon your Kindly Cleric whenever possible. Use sidestep every turn until Eye for an Eye breaks his shield, when broken send your Veteran Soldier. At 50% life he'll summon 2 Obsidian Officer, at that point you want to cast your Veteran Soldier max boosted and your Kindly Cleric to finish them off with Lux Congerere. You'll finish him off with a 3rd cast of Veteran Soldier.

Strategy: Can probably be done using another strat but since he start healing himself big time when close to dying and I don't want to calculate his remaining hp (I'm lazy), so I used the Veteran Soldier to beat him fast. For best result try to beat him on the first time you break him. On my first 3 turn I used the Veteran Soldier (3rd time was boosted), so he was at 1 shield remaining. At that point I healed myself up every turn until i had 5 boost point available, then I unleash everything I had and I beated him. Be sure to have enough money against him (I've spent around 150K).

Strategy: Turn 1&2, use Veteran Soldier (Hired Help) to kill Master Thieves, Turn 3 just do a normal attack with sword to lower his shield. You should have 4 boost point. Use 1 boost point with Veteran Soldier (Hired Help) this will break him, and last turn use all 3 boost point on Veteran Soldier again and you win.

Strategy: H'aanit has the hardest chapter 3 boss to beat in my opinion. That's why I recommend level 55 before attempting it. For sure it could be done on a much lower level if you would make use of specific broken ability with captured monster (thinking of a monster that gives you immunity to damage) but to me I preferred wasting time leveling up than wasting time capturing monsters, anyway those levels will be handy for your chapter 4 boss as well (even though chapter 4 is almost easier considering the items we will get before attempting it!!!).
Anyway, this time the boss do just pure output damage. So Healing yourself every turn is a general rule, just let your passive Eye for an Eye do the job to break him, when broken just use Amputation. When Dragon has 4 consecutive turn, don't be shy to use your boost point to heal way above max HP, or you can use Leghold Trap if you're just above max HP and need to avoid him having 4 consecutive turns. Arrowstorm and Empoison can be nice depending on the situation.
Exp/JP grind #3
Your objective here will be to unlock:
  • Patience (4th Hunter passive)
  • Ophilia only: Aelfric's Auspices (Cleric Divine skill)
  • Tressa only: Thousands Spear & Stout Wall (Warrior skills)

Location: Southern Wellspring Sands

Notes: Most enemies are weak to Elemental attack, just be careful when encountering Spiked Skink as he hit hard and cannot be broken easily.

Location: Maw of the Ice Dragon

Notes: The Elemental Hat is available in Stillsnow after you Scrutinize Villager and obtain More Plentiful Provisions. Same with Dragon's Vest in Northreach after you Scrutinize Guard and obtain New Weapon for Sale.
Enemies here are weak to bow, so Arrowstorm them and cast one of your double hit spell (boosted) next, that should one-shot the wolves and then repeat if there are other enemies still alive. Save often, enemies can be dangerous here, you could also buy some Healing Grape (M) to restore your life in between fights.

Location: Maw of the Ice Dragon

Notes: Enemies here are weak to bow, so Arrowstorm them and cast Trade Tempest (boosted) next, that should one-shot the wolves and then repeat if there are other enemies still alive (one-shotting the wolves will only work if you previously eat every nuts that increase your elemental attack). You can use your single target ability when there's only 1 monsters left. Pretty simple and easy. Just be sure to save often, you never know when you get ambushed and get bad luck, once you get some levels in here it should get safer.

Check out Exp/JP grind #2, I don't have a better spot to grind for him.
For him to be able to farm in Maw of the Ice Dragon, it would require you to get a stronger bow which is possible through doing Shadow Over the Sands quest, this would give you Transcendent Bow of Shadows. If you can get that bow, I'd believe you can have a nice setup to farm in Maw of the Ice Dragon, but this is not something I have attempted on my side, not sure how hard beating the optional boss to complete the quest is in solo. I'll probably try that at some point but for now I can't guarantee your safety doing that.

Check out Exp/JP grind #2, I don't have a better spot to grind for her.

Location: Maw of the Ice Dragon

Notes: Enemies here are weak to bow, so Arrowstorm them than cast Last Stand to finish them off, that should one-shot the wolves and then repeat if there are other enemies still alive. Use Amputation instead of Last Stand for dealing damage when there's 1 target left. As always, save often!

Location: Maw of the Ice Dragon

Notes: Enemies here are weak to bow, so Arrowstorm them and to finish them off boost your follow up Arrowstorm. When there's one monster left, you can use your dagger skills to finish the fight. The Dragon Vest is available to steal in Goldshore, first NPC at entrance.

If you leveled up to 55 during your Exp/JP grind #2 like myself, then you probably already can afford the skill/passive in your objective for this section, so you're probably good to go to the next section already.
Preparing for Chapter 4
One thing we have overlook until now are the Refreshing Jam and Revitalizing Jam. Those 2 items are VERY strong in a solo game, so better take them now for the last boss. Here are where you can find those and don't forget to equip your Evasive Maneuvers and Evil Ward passive to make it faster. Depending which character you play you may only need a few items in there. I suppose many of you play as Tressa for this challenge. With Tressa all you need is a few Jams and it should be all good. With Olberic and Primrose you may want to take everything in this section.

Chapter 4: Final Boss (Ophilia & Cyrus)
Here is my setup to beat your final boss for this achievement:

Summon: Kindly Cleric (skill: Lux Congerere) (at Saintsbrige)

Strategy: You'll first encounter 3x Mattias's Minion. So first turn heal yourself above Max Hp, on your 2nd turn just defend so you get an additional boost point before unleashing your Veteran Soldier on your 3rd turn.
When against Mattias, heal up using your Refreshing Jam and Revitalizing Jam. Summon your Kindly Cleric, unfortunatly you won't control your summon but she sometimes is pretty good at breaking the boss' defense. You won't have 100% control over when you break the boss, but try to launch your combo "Aelfric's Auspices" & "Veteran Soldier" on him when ready to output your damage. Using Reflective Veil to reflect his elemental damage back at him is very good also. Even though there's some random element in the fight (your summon) he's fairly easy to beat anyway.

https://youtu.be/LECLRUh3g2Q

You fight against Lucia, she is a special boss because as you break her, when she recover she change her weakness and her move entirely up to 3 different phases. One thing for sure you want to avoid as much as possible fighting in her 3rd phase as she will have an additional action each turn and even heal herself up. That being said, I have 2 strategy for beating her. This will be up to you to chose how you want to do it.
Strategy #1: Beat her during her 1st phase using poison. This is manageable but you need to be more careful about your health and the fight goes on for a long time as you can imagine with poison damage, it took me a little more than 30 minutes doing it this way.
Strategy #2: Beat her during her 2nd phase, this strat in my opinion is easier to execute (you can do it on a much lower level than I did) but requires more money and/or Soulstone (L), around 300K is needed if you don't have any Soulstone (L), else every 3 x Soulstone (L) can replace a 30K cast of Veteran Soldier. On the other hand, this method was much more satisfying to use.
  • Phase 1 Strategy

Strategy: So the basic strategy will be to heal yourself every turn possible using First Aid and insert your Empoison skill whenever you have the time for it. Managing well your health will be crucial in surviving this fight, and you'll need to have some endurance because poison takes time to kill your target. Obviously when you are running out of mana, you will use your Refreshing Jam to refill your SP and healing yourself at the same time. So what you always need to pay attention is how many turns the boss have before you can act again. In cases where the boss will act 4 times in a row, if you are just a little over your Max Hp making it impossible to heal anymore, don't forget you have the option of defending making your next turn happen sooner. Also managing your boost point well will be key to success during this fight. Always be mindful when you have 2 consecutive turn (you act last, and on your next turn you act first), waiting next turn to spend your boost point is usually better if you have less than 3 boost point.
As for the Dragon's Vest making the build, it may seems weird to equip +elemental defense against a boss who's doing only physical damage during his first phase, but be aware that Elemental Defense is a key stat for healing, so the choice of equipment here is a good balance of stats that works well specifically for this boss as you'll need a lot of defense + healing. Be aware in the video I forgot about getting that piece of armor so you'll see the Platinum Vest instead, so the fight should be even easier for you.

    https://youtu.be/mbLiXnTvkGU
  • Phase 2 Strategy

Strategy: During her 1st phase, you will focus almost only on getting your Evasion buff up with Side Step, they are optional but if you have some Energizing Pomegranate (L), this can help keeping up your buff against her attack without worrying at all. Eventually your passive Eye for an Eye will wear down her shield until you break her, don't forget to switch your weapon at the start (Bow or Spear). Be sure you have 3 boost point when broken so you can unleash your Veteran Soldier on her with maximum power.
After that the second phase starts. When you're not above max HP, use your Refreshing Jam or Revitalizing Jam to heal yourself. When you have 3 boost point, chose between casting your Sidestep buff or paying your Veteran Soldier. When you're out of boost point, you can consume an Energizing Pomegranate (L), or just cast an unboosted Sidestep or even cast any Soulstone (L) as this item deals decent amount of damage and certainly can be considered if you don't have enough money, just be sure you don't break her again and everything will be fine.

Chapter 4, Final Boss (Tressa & Olberic)
Part 2 (I'm limited in the amount of characters I can put in a single section)

Strategy: She only does physical damage that is why I'm equipping gear that focus on physical defense. Use your Refreshing Jam & Revitalizing Jam wisely when you need healing. Plan out your boost point well so that when you break her you have 3 boost point to spend on your Hired Help (Veteran Soldier), Eye for an Eye and Thousand Spear will help a lot to break her defense. She changes her weakness when she recover from break. So don't forget to switch your weapon when you break her. Sometimes you'll have turn where she's close to her breaking point but you don't yet have your 3 boost point. In that case, when you just want to wait you can either Sidestep (good against her 1 hit attack) or Stout Wall (good against her multi hit attack). Be aware she can debuff your defense (very dangerous to have when your not very high above your max HP) and this can cancel your Stout Wall buff, on the other hand you can also cancel her debuff with Stout Wall. I have to admit my Patience passive was triggering almost in an unfair way against her in the video, but even if you are not as lucky as I were here, she's pretty easy anyway.

270K money needed with this strategy.

Strategy: Werner to me was the hardest chapter 4 boss to do in solo. So unless you have a better plan, read carefully everything here. When Werner gets below 50% HP he increase his number of action per turn giving him 3 actions per turn. With 2 actions per turn he's already not the easiest, so the best strategy I think is to lower his health just a bit over 50%, then you prepare your final burst of damage so he doesn't have the time to benefit from his 3 actions per turn.

So with Werner having 100K HP, you need to have a plan to do around 45K damage. First things first, he does have 5 shields that you can only hit with Soulstones, so let's use 4x Lightning/Wind/Holy Soulstone (L) on him to put him at 1 shield. Each Soulstones will do around 3500 damage, so that's already 14 000 damage done with Soulstones. Then you may want to wear him down with Veteran Soldier. Depending on how many boost point you spend it will deal different amount of damage but here is what I calculated:
  • Veteran Soldier X4 (max boosted) = 8 200 damage.
  • Veteran Soldier X3 = 7 200 damage.
  • Veteran Soldier X2 = 5 700 damage.
  • Veteran Soldier X1 (unboosted) = 4 700 damage
  • Damage is doubled if enemy is broken and damage is multiplied by 1.5 if enemy still have shield but you hit his weakness.
What I ended up deciding for my strategy would be to cast 3 times "Veteran Soldier X4" and 1 time "Veteran Soldier X3" for 31 800 total damage. If you add up the damage dealt with Soulstones you're now at 45 800 damage done (not counting all the random counter attacks).
So once all that is done, give yourself 5 boost points, then use another Soulstone (L) to break him then unleash your Veteran Soldiers and try to deal the maximum amount of damage you can in the fewest turn possible. Having Patience passive trigger at the right time will help you tremendously in dealing more damage, else you could equip a weapon that debuff Werner defense (he would receive 50% more damage) which would give you the damage you are looking for, but you'll need that proc at the right time or wait for it a few turn to time everything well. If you like that strategy the "Captain's Sword" you could get in a chest in Cobbleston can do that debuff, but on my side I did it with the Yeti's Longbow for Blind debuff which works well during all the fight. The proc is why I equiped Eye for an Eye passive (which is a shame I did switch my weapon when the fight was almost over, sometimes you just forget things, but whenever you blind him it's really good). So consider both options depending on your preferences. One last info about him is once he gets below 50%, I think it always take him 2 turns before he increase his actions. It is entirely possible to kill him before he has the chance to even increase his number of action like I did in my video below. What I ended up doing on my side is, I cast max boosted Veteran Soldier (that puts him below 50%) right before breaking him, with Patience passive I was able to break him before he increase his actions and I then I rushed him down before he could do anything. This requires a little luck for Patience to trigger at the right time but I had more burst coming his way if that wasn't enough to kill him, so I don't think it is absolutely required to have Patience trigger for you to win the battle, it does help though.

So as for your health during the battle, whenever your not above max HP, heal yourself with either Revitalizing Jam or Refreshing Jam depending if you already have boost point or not. You will also need to cast boosted Sidestep a few times to help with your life whenever the situation needs it. Timing well all of your action will be key in surviving the fight. You won't be able to stack too much Sidestep buff because of his 2 hits ability, but I expect you to use many Jam items during the battle so keep in mind you can give yourself boost point and healing at the same time, be mindful of that to optimize your turns. For sure you'll have to try a few times before mastering this fight and/or avoiding bad luck (lol), but eventually you should be able to do it.
Good luck! :)

Chapter 4, Final Boss (Primrose & Alfyn)
Part 3 (I'm limited in the amount of characters I can put in a single section)

Summon: Elderly Woman (skill: Ignis Ardere) (at Duskbarrow)
360K money needed with this strategy.

Phase 1
Strategy: The first phase isn't too hard to do, you'll first start the fight healing yourself above Max HP (Revitalizing Jam). Then you'll summon your Elderly Woman to help break the Marionettes shield with her fire ability, ideally you'll want to break both Marionettes at the same time. This will require a bit of cooperation from your summon but the chance are high you can do that early in the fight. If your timing gets screwed you'll probably have to be careful as the Father Marionnette can put you unconscious (I think it is when he has less than 50% HP), if you know the move is comming you can use Sidestep to avoid it. Once the 2 marionettes are broken, unleash your boosted Veteran Soldier on them. After that the marionette should be low on HP so you can finish them off with Soulstones (L) (Fire or Shadow Soulstone are best as the enemies are weak to those elements, which one to use depend on the situation), 2 x Soulstones should be enough to get rid of them. Once there's only Simeon left the rest is pretty easy, you just need to break him using either your Dagger or Shadow Soulstone (L). I like using the Soulstones on the first phase and spend less money on that fight as I'll need a lot on the 2nd phase. Usually I only need 3 cast of Veteran Soldier during this phase, I do the rest of damage with Soulstone (L). Also be sure to finish the fight with high amount of HP else you'll die immediatly at the start of 2nd phase without having the chance to do anything.

Phase 2
Strategy: The first thing to know about 2nd phase is that Simeon will increase his actions per turn to 3 starting at 50% HP. So my strategy against him is to reduce his shield to only 1 and at the same time lowering his HP close enough to 50%, then when I'm ready I break him and try to burst him down with Veteran Soldier before he has the chance to benefit too much from having 3 actions per turn.
Surviving during the first 50% life isn't too hard but keep in mind you don't have infinite amount of Revitalizing&Refreshing Jams and Pomegranate (L) so you'll have to be efficient at using your items and ability. Try to keep your Sidestep buff up if you can, as this will help a lot to survive.
Simeon has 96 450 HP, also when I use Veteran Soldier (max boosted and enemy shield up) every hit does around 2100 damage, so 4 x 2100 for one cast = 8400 damage. So I figure out that if I cast 5 times my Veteran Soldier while his shields are up, that would do around 5 * 8400 = 42 000 damage.
which was close enough for my taste to his 50%. Be aware that when an enemie is broken he receive double the damage. So if you are short on money you could probably try to replace 4 cast of Veteran Soldier by only 2 cast while Simeon is broken, as that could save you 60K of money. If you chose to do that you'll have to be careful because you might have to hit him a few more times and it would be best to adjust your numbers accordingly.
Also his weakness changes each time you break him. You'll be able to break his shield the first time with your Dagger, on the 2nd time with either Sword (Veteran Soldier) or Fire (with your summon). And on 3rd time with your Bow.
To me this was one of the hardest boss to do in Solo (only Olberic's last boss being even harder). Good luck!

https://youtu.be/-ft735ZwmFA

Strategy: At the start of battle, when you need healing, use Concoct with Purifying Seed + Essence of Grape (Healing Balm+), as this will set you up to 9 999 HP. At first you can only break him with Ice, so you can first break him with a combination of Ice Soulstone (L) and your skill Icicle, while your doing that your boost point charge up so when you break him, you'll be able to boost your Veteran Mercenary, when he recovers his Lightning and Sword weakness can now be exploited, so you can repeat the process with Lightning Soulstone and/or Veteran Soldier. His last weak points you can exploit are bow and Dark, but when he starts his Toxic Cloud (at 50% life or lower), I recommend finishing him off as soon as possible because your Max Hp will decrease each turn, so use your Revitalizing Jam + Veteran Soldier.
You can get unlucky during the fight if you get a nasty bad status like Sleep at low health making you unable to heal yourself but the chances are on your side, he's very easy to beat compared to other bosses.

https://youtu.be/eo7n5bflXHE
Chapter 4, Final Boss (Therion & H'annit)
Part 4 (I'm limited in the amount of characters I can put in a single section)

Strategy: Darius will start the fight by locking up your inventory, so it is important to break him fast and survive the first 2 turns, after you recover your items it's super easy from there. To survive your first turn, use immediately your boost point with HP Thief, as this should give you just enough HP to until you recover your items. Then use your Jams to heal yourself whenever it's needed and just use your dagger ability to break his shield and Veteran Soldier to deal maximum amount of damage. Eventually he will go down without any problem.
https://youtu.be/Ly4q3AKsK0o

Strategy: Redeye change his weakness every turn. Either he is weak to bow so you can Arrowstorm him, or he is weak to Lightning/Wind/Light so you can use some Soulstone (L) on him. Other weakness don't really matter. You could probably capture some monsters enabling you to multi hit with Spear or Axe to enable you to break his shield even faster instead of using Soulstone (L), but to me, capturing monsters is annoying, dangerous, and a waste of time for this challenge... The Yeti's Longbow can be very nice by applying Dark status also Eye for an Eye will give you even greater chance to apply the debuff. If you need healing use either Refreshing Jam or Revitalizing Jam. Once his shield is down, just Hired Help your Veteran Soldier. At 50% life he'll act 3 times a turn and he can be dangerous sometimes if you are just a little bit over Max HP but you really just need to avoid bad luck and you should do it no problem. Remember you can always use Defend to make you act sooner on your next turn, in case he would get like 6 turns in a row without any chance to act, Leghold Trap could probably work here too.

Extras!!!! Ultimate Low Level Solo run
This section is just for pure entertainment... Do not try this at home or your controller might die to sudden rage of bad RNG!!!

So you thought that by successfully unlocking the Lone Traveler achievement you did the most difficult challenge in the game? Since you now realize how useless it is to recruit other party member how about we check if leveling is equally useless in this game. But you might ask why would you want to keep your character away from leveling? Haven't you notice already that every time you level up, the price at the Inn goes up? We gota keep those cost down... ;)

Well, the truth is I was wondering for a while just how low you could be and still beat the game. I've seen other videos on youtube attempting a so called "low level kill" on chapter's bosses. But really I had the feeling we could push those barriers way further than what has been attempted by others so far.

So let me explain and show you the highlights of my run:
  • First I clear up Chapter 1, nothing that special about that but remember in a low level run I need to avoid all exp possible, including bonus exp for when you break enemies. That also include bosses which I can't break.
    https://youtu.be/LS7BrGTJK7o
  • After Chapter 1, I ended up level 3 with 11 exp left. I also have 16 JP and 14 more to go for my first ability. Let me explain something first. While I'm 11 exp left I can't take anymore than 9 exp at this point. The reason is without taking anymore Exp here, after beating Omar (chapter 2) I'll end up level 6 with 10 exp left. So you see, by limiting myself to only 9 exp here this will allow me to stay at level 6 after chapter 2, with 1 exp left. Otherwise by taking 10 Exp I would end up spot on at level 7. So how am I able to get 14 JP while getting only 9 Exp. I've found only 1 combination possible. I need to kill 1 Scaled Viper in the Maiya Cave with bonus to JP for 5 exp and 7(+1 bonus)JP. And I need to kill 2 times a Sea Birdian 1 with bonus JP for 2 Exp and 2(+1 bonus)JP. This will total exactly 9 Exp and 14 JP, exactly what I need. The Sea Birdian 1 can be replaced by either Forest Ratkin 1 or River Froggen 1 for the exact same amount of Exp/JP. Other than that I don't think there's any other possibilities to keep my level as low.
  • Have you guessed what is the ability I want to learn? I need Bewildering Grace. Any idea why this one? Since Support abilities are very strong, I'll want a ton of JP but at the same time I wanna limit my intake of Exp, so being able to apply a multiplier to my JP will be key in this run. Even though the odds are very low I want to make JPx100 happen against chapter 2 and 3 bosses. These 2 fights alone with the proper multiplier will enable me to unlock all the skills and supports.
  • Now the thing I haven't explain is how the hell am I gona travel without Evasive Maneuvers as I don't have any JP left to spend, and I don't want to kill anymore monsters... Well this is where the RNJesus comes into action. Remember in the solo challenge where you need to run against Tier 2 monsters to obtain your scholar sub class? Now I need to do this but on almost the entire map to be able to get good gear, nuts, and a bunch of Soulstone (L) from chest and NPC in towns. As you can imagine, trying to run away was a slugfest. I must admit I've seen the Game Over screen about a thousand times. This was painful and frustrating, but no pain no gain...
  • Anyway once I was all setup for Chapter 2, I went to kill Omar at level 3, with a basic setup with high physical defense, thanks also to all the nuts I could get to raise my stats. He was pretty easy. The the real challenge here is not to get the kill but to hit the JPx100. In case you wouldn't know, getting the x100 multiplier have a odd of 0.1%. Since you are required to max boost it, each time you cast it, it does a random effect 4 times, so the actual odds becomes 4 x 0.1%. So for every cast I have 1 chance out of 250 for it to happen. I can say I was very unlucky... I got the right multiplier after almost a thousand cast of the spell. At one point I was so frustrated I broke my controller :( Anyway at the end of the fight I was now level 6 with 1 exp left and 6000 JP. I could then afford to learn Saving Grace (4th cleric support) enabling healing over my max HP. I also grabbed Hale and Hearty (2nd Apothecary support) for the +500 max HP. And I also got Eye for an Eye (2nd Dancer support) for counter attacking and this also works well to apply debuff from weapons that can proc. As you might have guess I also got Hired Help ability which will be very useful against the following bosses.
    https://youtu.be/2dtBNnVJWEw
  • Now against chapter 3 boss, Venom Tiger, I managed to kill him at level 6. I wasn't able to sustain damage with physical defense gear. I found out that evasion gear works the best against him. He probably have low accuracy. Even though this is what works the best here at low level, this fight is not safe. You just never know when you live or die. I've had many attempt where I dodge 10+ hit in a row, but then suddenly I got hit by his big attack 2 times in a row and I'm dead. I've even saw an instance where I had a debuff to my physical defense while the boss had a buff to his attack power, and he literally one-shot me while I was at 3500 life. Yeah sometimes evasion is best but I still really hate how the stat works... Anyway I needed to land the JPx100 once again. This time around once I hit the right multiplier, I need to end the fight as soon as possible in order to not get killed. Once again I wasn't very lucky on this one. The first time I hit JPx100, Venom Tiger killed me. On my second time, I also hit Exp x 2, so I needed to reset to avoid any boost in exp. On the 3rd time I got my multiplier I also hit "You barely survive the attack." which puts me at 1 hp, followed by "Your items are scattered on the ground" which in addition to remove the ability to use items it also does a minor aoe damage to party. So basically I suicide myself at the same time. This was another frustrating moment, but I've been rewarded on my 4th hit (after over 300 cast from my last multiplier hit). The following video is my successful kill. https://youtu.be/PchEnmiskLc
  • As you saw in the last video Venom Tiger gave me all the JP I wanted. So I unlocked almost all skills and support. I'm now level 12 for my final challenge. Against Esmeralda I used physical defense gear, this is what works best against her. I also equipped an accessory that gives +1000 HP combined with Hale and Hearty support that gives 500 HP, so this gave me just enough HP to survive the battle.

So that's it, I hope you enjoyed this part also!
Would this be entertaining for you guys if I try to beat Galdera on low level in the future?

@Graan yeah you're right about that chest. I'll add a comment in the guide about that

I followed this guide to get the Fleetfoot achievement in a Therion solo run, and it worked out pretty well! Thanks for your work!

One thing I found was that as Therion, you are able to open a chest in Maw of the Ice Dragon that contains an Adamantine Hat. It's the highest Elem. Atk / Def hat in the game, and it's a straight upgrade over Oasis Hat / Elemental Hat. Even Tressa cannot access such a hat!

Got it on solo Tressa, 8:07 man what a ride.
Thank you very informative.
(If you don't have enough money on final Tressa's boss for hire, you can steal 30k, just enough for one more attack.)

not sure if anyone mentioned yet. But using Collect ability in battle with Tressa is a great way to farm cash (6,000) when you run into caits.

also thanks for the guide!! I wasn't sold on Tressa -- I really like Alfyn-- but this proved shes dope.

Thank you for this guide. I am not one for speed running or other such antics. I just don't have the temperament for them. But thanks to you, I have two shiny new Achievements to my name.
