Locating or creating a mods folder
Find your saved game folder for GC2. This is usually in the My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\ location.

If a mods folder doesn't already exist, create a new folder there and name it 'mods'.
Installing the mod files
Extract the contents of the ZIP'd mod to your mods folder. This should mean that you have a new folder specifically for that mod in your mods folder.

Take note of the full path to this folder.

For example: C:\Users\Marvin\Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\mods\APT1.
Enabling a mod
Open your Prefs.ini file - this is also located in your saved game folder and should open with Notepad.

Scroll down to where it says EnableMods=0 and change the 0 to a 1.

Scroll down to thye line which starts ModsDir= and enter the file path you previously noted.

For example, ModsDir=C:\Users\Marvin\Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\Mods\APT1

Close and save Prefs.ini, and start the game. Mods will be enabled.

It seems this guide got out of date at some point...

The game has a mod manager in it now, I just put the mod in the game's mod folder, rather than in my documents (For example: \Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations II - Ultimate Edition\Mods)

Then I selected the mod in the options menu.

I think, it will be very usefull, if you add to this guide (or create new one) list of best mods to GC2. This will help new users very much.

Why isn't Steam Workshop enabled for this game? :steamfacepalm:

If you're looking to just tweak your game, you can always just go to the 'English' folder and make changes to the values in almost everything there. Be sure to make a copy of the original b4 you make any changes. Open with notepad. I always juiced up the star bases. Taking so many constructors to make, they should be tough. You can make your own race, give yourself 4 size 30 planets...that look any way you want them. Some of these changes (like raceconfig) won't take effect till you reset (delete) your preferences. :steamhappy:

rick.moult1, there's a Modding section on Stardock's Galactic Civilizations II forums - http://forums.galciv2.com that you can check out, and also a library of older mods at http://library.galciv2.com

Hope that helps!

SundiataWTF, you can install under Mods/default but generally the mods come in a compressed ZIP folder and you want to extract that to a new folder under Mods.

Or you can extract directly to Mods, if the program you're using to open ZIP files is set to extract the folder structure from the ZIP file - most mods will have a top-level folder.

The reason for this is that most mods (like tech tree mods) can't work with other mods which change the same game files, so if you use the default folder for everything, you'll run into a mod conflict. So if you have more than one mod of that type, then you need to in-game or be editing the GC2.ini as above, change to the desired mod folder before starting a new game.

Sorry for not answering right away!

Where do I get the mods from?
