How to kill things for those who just can't (For lesser computers)
By Moheemo
My guide explains a fix for those who seem to shoot on target but either consistantly miss or never actually shoot the plane down.

Introduction (This guide will be short)
I am Alec, represented here as Moheemo.

When I started to play this game I could not seem to shoot anything down. I would ALWAYS have my sights in the leading circle (arcade mode here) but was only able to shoot down a solid 4 planes in a solid 10 hours.
I grinded all the way to a level 3, almost 4, with the Americans before I fixed my issue. I felt so helpless and so poor at the game that I, ashamed to say, fell into old tempation and looked for a hack to this game. Thankfully I could not find one and resoulved to taking a 2 week long break before trying again.
I am glad to say that now I kill a solid average of 5-7 each game, typically get the #1 slot at the end of the game and am falling more and more in love with the game.

When scouring the forums for this game, I noticed people having similar issues as I did and sharing stories of not even being able to take down ground units without suiciding them.
I then decided to share my discovery, and hopefully my success with the community.

Here is a screenshot of my recent success (I have only been playing the british side for a collective 10-20 hours)

The Fix
Alright, time to reveal my big fix.

Amazingly enough, this will only work for a few of you but hopefully by the title and the description, I have weeded out those who cannot benefit.

When I first started playing I noticed that in the screen before the games (as seen below, however this is after my fix so ingnore the fps until I mention it, thanks!)

My fps was a consistant 10-14. This, is obviously horrible. I assumed that this would go away during the battles, and it pretty much did, hence my discovery of this solution not being earlier.

However my fps was still not all that good, although this was somewhat masked.

So I did the only thign that made sense. I went to the graphics settings before the game opened, and hit 'min' and then loaded the game.

This does turn the graphics down a bit and the game even warns you of this when you try to switch over. However, your plane looks fine, everyone elses plane's look great as well, overall, the graphics are just fine if I get to actually succeed now.

*All pictures used in this guide are in 'min' incase you wanted to know what it might look like*

My FPS went from 10-14 in static screen (I will just call it that) to a healthy 40+ as seen in the above image (top left). In game, I can be so good as too earn a glorious 70+ as seen in this photo

This fixed my game for me. I have now been doing very well and I am actualy dealing proper damage.
The Fix Part 2
Alright, now, for those of you who don't know how to go about reducing the graphics, this section is for you.

First, start the game. A window that looks like this should pop up.
Now, notice how under the graphics bar towards the top, the white rectangle is on 'min'?

Thats were you need to set it and all you have to do. After that is done, hit play and enjoy the dramatic increase in FPS and hopefuly your performance

Enjoy! :D

When i first got this game, i put my sights on the circle on the recticle. As i found out that shots would only scrape the tail or miss entirely, i decided to look at guides for better aim. Then voila, i can set planes on fire, rip planes to pieces or trolololo bombers by killing their engiens and setting them onfire and let them spiral to thedirt

If you still get poor FPS, even using this guide, please take a look at my guide on how to push the graphics far below what the launcher will normally allow: Flying with a Toaster - How to Run War Thunder on Terrible Computers . It may help, though it WILL make the game ugly as sin.

I run with settings on high and get around 100 frames per second. Resolution 1920 x 1200.
AMD Radeon HD 6970 (two years old). Processor usage seems to be very low on my system so this game seems to be video card dependent. Core i7 3930K processor, 8 GB RAM. Still I have trouble shooting planes down, but I do get some occasionally. I would recommend you buy the best video card you can afford. Game looks great with high resolution graphics and Anti-aliasing.

Nice guide! I too am on a fairly cheap laptop, it runs a decent 30-40 normally, but tanks down to 15-27-ish in dogfights with multiple planes on screen at the same time. I can usually get hits, but I will be trying this next time I play.
