Description
To The Dark Tower is a visual poem based on the nightmare of a dead poet. Blending the line between a digital picture book and a video game, it explores themes of self-doubt, fear of the uncanny, and many other complex issues in a surreal medieval setting.
The poem To The Dark Tower is based on was written in 1855, when the noted poet Robert Browning had a nightmare. His terrifying dream took the form of a poem, and upon awakening, he wrote it down verbatim. This strange dream-poem would become known as "Childe Roland To The Dark Tower Came," considered by many to be one of the greatest works of poetry in the English language.
This is a personal interpretation of that poem.
Each line has been illustrated, animated, or otherwise visualized to reflect the developer's vision of the world Browning created, and to share that vision with others.
To The Dark Tower will sell for $3.99, and is available to wishlist on Steam at https://store.steampowered.com/app/1079740/To_The_Dark_Tower/.
FAQ
Who made this thing?
Yitz is the developer and primary artist of To The Dark Tower. Guest artists include Leopardmoth[www.instagram.com], and Dood.

When is the release date?
The release date is not exact, the developer is making this in his free time; expect a release around July or August

How much will this cost?
$3.99

What platforms will it be available on?
Windows, Mac, and Linux.

How long will it take to play the full game?
It will take around one hour to play.

Is it replayable / are there multiple endings?
The developer hopes players will come back multiple times to find new meanings in his work, but there will be no difference across playthroughs.

This sounds like a digital picture book; why is it being described as a video game?
To The Dark Tower is definitely on the edge of what can be considered a "video game," and it could be argued that it isn't one at all. That being said, as "kinetic visual novels" are normally considered to be video games, the categorization is not without precedent.

Why should I play this at all if my choices don't matter? Wouldn't watching a playthrough on YouTube be just as good?
A significant reason why the developer made To The Dark Tower is to recreate the childhood horror of reading a creepy picture book late at night and being afraid to turn the page for fear of what lies on the next... The interactivity offered by being able to choose when to move forward creates a tension that will not be experienced by those who merely watch a playthrough. Despite no choices being made, the player becomes an active participant in the world of To The Dark Tower.
