Introduction: Changing the resolution by editing a config-file

Enabling 1920x1080 (Full HD) Resolution

Although Sacred Citadel only allows for a maximum resolution of 1600x900 in the game options, it's possible to use a higher resolution by editing the config file. You won't need a special program or programming skills - it's simple and clean.

As always it's highly recommended to copy the file that needs to be edited before and save it somewhere else!

...although the document that needs to be edited has very little content and the game will propaly start anyway, even if you do something wrong. It's just saver and easier this way to restore the default if you mistype a number or anything like that.

So here's the (re)solution, finally:
The file you want to edit is called "renderconfig" inside the "Sacred Citadel" folder at "My Documents" which is inside your personal folder.
The regular path will be:

C:\Users\*YourUserName*\My Documents\Sacred Citadel\renderconfig

You can open this file simply by double-clicking. The standard windows text editor is enough.

The document will read:

ScreenWidth=123ScreenHeight=456FullScreen=True

Whereas "123" and "456" are the horizontal and vertical value of your chosen resolution.
You can now simply change these values to whatever resolution you want to use! :)

As an example: If you're using a full HD screen you'll propably want to use the 1920x1080 resolution, so the file should read the following now:

ScreenWidth=1920ScreenHeight=1080FullScreen=True

Save and exit the file, start the game and enjoy the higher resolution! :)

Alternatively, if the above is not working for you:
For me it was enough to do everything above to start the game at 1920x1080, but according to some threads in the Sacred Citadel general discussions there are a few people still experiencing problems after doing this. For even a fewer it's not working at all. So if you're unlucky and belong into this group, here are two things you can try out that should fix the problem and enable a higher resolution for you as well:

First: Change the "renderconfig" document properties to read only, otherwise the game will overwrite the settings at every launch.

Second: Start Steam by right-clicking and choosing "Start as Administrator"/"With Administrator rights" or however it's exactly called in the english version.

Thrid: There's a second document that is used as a config file for the game that also has the resolution settings in it and can be edited as well. Way more options in it this time too.

The file we want to edit this time is called "sacredcitadel" (the ".ini" not the ".exe" of course). It's inside the "sacred_citadel" folder within "common" at your "SteamApps".
The typical path will be:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\sacred_citadel\sacredcitadel

You can open this file simply by double-clicking again, the regular windows text editor is also enough this time.

The document will read more than the other one, so just take a look at the end of it:

ScreenWidth=123
ScreenHeight=456

FullScreen=True

This looks a little bit different, but basically the same.

Whereas "123" and "456" are the horizontal and vertical value of your chosen resolution again and you can change these values to any other resolution a second time. ;)

So if you still want to use 1920x1080 (e.g.) the file should read:

ScreenWidth=1920
ScreenHeight=1080

FullScreen=True

Again: Save and exit the file, start the game and hopefully(!!) enjoy a higher resolution this time! ;)

Epilogue - An important hint:
Please note, that the resolution whill switch back to a lower one if you enter the game options menu within the game now. So you should propably take a look around there, before you edit the config file, so that you don't need to open it anymore. The value within the "renderconfig" document will be changed again so you have to do everything a second time.

Greetings to all of you! :)

Here is the first file that I have edited with a hex editor to do 1920x1080, try it out.

You should edit the first file using a hex editor like Hxd because even though it appears to just be 1 line there are actually invisible characters between each option that editing in notepad will break
