Intro
To start off this basic guide, it'll need an intro.

I'm here to tell you how to start a basic private server with your friends without having to download any 3rd party bs.
Set up
First off, to start a server you'll:

  • - Go in game
  • - Press Multiplayer
  • - Select 'Create'
  • - Set it up as you want - there are a few different options, and at the bottom of the screen there will be a multiplayer settings option.*
  • - When you're done, press create/start.

Chances are, they wont be able to join just yet. Next section.

* This is where you can also select the option to turn auto/manual team selection on/off.
Port Forwarding
For this to work properly, you'll have to go into your modem/router and port forward.

I personally use a NETGEAR so easiest way to get into it is 192.168.0.1 in chrome/firefox and enter my info.

KIDS, if you're setting it up and trying to get it to work, ask a parent if you can do this. Unless of course you're smarter than your parents and know all that info anyways.

PORTS to forward:

TCP/UDP 3658 and 3659 are the ports you'll need. In your router/modem you should have an area (it might be in advanced settings like it is for mine) that shows you where you can port forward. You'll have to create a new range, add your computer IP address*, add the range of ports which are just the two mentioned above, then make sure it's set for TCP and UDP.

Some devices require two different processes to add.
Example is you might only be able to do TCP or UDP, in which case you create 2 separate instances. For mine it was TCP/UDP so I only had to create one instance.

Forwarding these, THEN creating my server and setting it up worked as it should the first time. Which given the date of the game, surprised me.

*To find your computers IP address:

- Press Windows Key + R, this opens a run window.
- Type cmd *This opens up command prompt (A black window)
- Type IPCONFIG in command prompt
- Look for the ipv4 address. Should be something like 192.168.0.x for example
- this will be the address that you use in your router/modem to identify which computer on your network these ports are opening for. If you try to launch it from a separate computer with only one allowed, it wont let others join.
Connecting to Friends
After all of the previous was set up, all you have to do to connect to your friend or have someone connect to you is select join via the IP address and password.

To get your external IP address, go online and type in whatismyip. You should get a few different websites that give you your ipv4 ip address.

This address is public, so share it only with people you trust for best results.

To connect, enter that address in e.x(175.62.3.114) and then a password.

You should be all set to play!
Conclusion
Doing what I said above is as simple as it sounds, surprisingly. The process can be complicated for some folks and if you have any questions feel free to comment and I'll try my best to answer them along with others who also have insight.

Keep in mind you might need to reset your ROUTER/MODEM in order for the ports to take affect. I didn't, but you might.

Is there a public server list anywhere for this game?

Only work for LAN? Nothing my friends and I was local. However I did forget to add something that you made me remember:mean_creep:

Thanks for doing this. There used to be an old guide to port forward this game but I think it got lost to the sands of time.
However, it will only work for LAN. The Internet option will not work unless you have 3rd party software somewhere in there.
