A step-by-step guide to changing the default controls to suit your needs. A lot of people have been asking for a way to change the controls, and this is to show a way to do so in the game itself.

Accessing the Configure Screen

At any point, on the main menu or pause menu press CTRL + F1. You should be taken to this screen.


Alternative
If ctrl + f1 doesn't work, you can go into PROPERTIES and select SET LAUNCH OPTIONS and put "-startmapper" in the pop up.
Binds
How to change the binds

Select the key that you wish to rebind (which will be highlighted in green, multiple options will appear at the bottom right, select "Add", then press the key wish to change it to.



Quick Note Before Doing It:

There are actually keys for jumping(/), looking up and down(Delete and PGDN), and strafing left and right(, and .), and just to clarify the arrows to the left are the ones used for the default controls.


My suggested binds:

Up Arrow(forward) = w
Down Arrow(backpedal) = s
,(Strafe Left) = a
.(Strafe Right) = d
/(Jump) = Left Alt

dragging SETUP.EXE over dosbox.exe provides some options, too.

i'm pretty sure zdoom simply has an options menu panel for rebinding keys

You could try putting "-startmapper" in the launch options, which will make the configuration screen come up before the game. Hope that works

i just put the zdoom source for the mouse controls can anyone help me bind to the wasd? im new to this kinda stuff and the crtl+f1 dont make anything come up i just wanna remap the movement

Or just use [GZDoom] (https://zdoom.org/downloads) and edit, the "gzdoom-<COMPUTER_NAME>.ini" file and point to Hexen:
