Console Commands

How to use the command console in-game to give yourself a slight edge, with things like extra money, stability and more. Includes a list of all the console commands supported by the game.

Introducing the Console
The console itself is common in many games, and is a place to enter text commands to the game engine. Any number of things are possible through the console, and I will do my best to list them here.

The console can be opened using the tilde (~ or `) key on most English layout keyboards. Different layouts will use different keys. Users have had success with Shift+3 (§). If all else fails, hold down the left ALT key and press 2 followed by 1 on your numpad.

For the purposes of Ironman and cheating, please consider all console commands as cheats. There are only 3 commands that aren't specifically listed as cheating, and it may be erroneus.

IMPORTANT: Achievements are only in Ironman mode. Ironman mode disables the console.
Usage
Commands have three main components, and are case-sensitive. Most commands won't require every component, but when used each one must be seperated by a space.
  • Command Name
    The name of the command.
  • Country Tag or Province ID
    The ID of the thing you wish the command to affect.
  • Value
    The ammount that you want to occur when you enter the command.

The following are examples of valid commands, followed by a short explanation.
  • die
    Your current ruler dies.
  • stability 1
    Gain a single point of stability.
  • piety -10
    Lose 10 points of Piety as a Muslim.
  • tag ENG
    Change the country you're playing as to England.
  • add_natives 1110 50
    Adds 5k natives to the Rio de Oro province. Useful because natives will be turned into base tax.
Common Commands
See the Appendix or type 'help' into the console for a list of all commands. For the purposes of this guide, I will focus on only the most commonly used commands.

Utility
With these commands, you can see some information that is usually not available to the player. These can cause the game to operate oddly.
  • observe - You no longer play as a country, and see everything.
  • ti - Reveals the entire map.
  • fow - Removes the fog of war.
  • debug_mode - Hovering over a province will now show the IDs associated.

Quick Commands
With these commands you can quickly boost your country without resorting to tags or IDs. The commands listed can be used without entering a value to get a default value, or you can specify whatever value you desire. You can also use these commands to remove value by specifying a negative number.
  • cash - Gives 5k money.
  • manpower - Gives 50k manpower.
    Specifc amount will be multiplied by 1k.
  • stability - Sets your stability to 3.
  • prestige - Gives 6 prestige.
  • legitimacy - Sets your legitimacy to 100.
    Does not work on governement types with no legitimacy (Republic, Papacy). There is no direct command for Republican Tradition. See Events below this section.
  • adm - Your Administrative Power Points are set to 999.
  • dip - Your Diplomatic Power Points are set to 999.
  • mil - Your Military Power Points are set to 999.
  • powerpoints - All your Power Points are set to 999.
  • army_tradition - Gives 50 Army Tradition.
  • navy_tradition - Gives 50 Naval Tradition.
  • imperial_authority - Gives 6 Imperial Authority.
  • add_pi - Gives 100 Papal Influence Points. (Catholic)
    You have a maximum you can attain. Accepts no value.
  • add_pa - Gives 10% Patriarch Authority. (Orthodox)
    Accepts no value.
  • fervor - Gives 25 Fervor. (Reformed)
  • piety - Gives +10% Piety. (Muslim)
  • winwars - Your War Score in all wars is set to 100.
  • yesman - Toggles AI favorable response to your proposals.
  • leader - Create a military leader.
    Requires four seperate values, one for each strength.
  • admiral - Create a naval leader.
    Requires four seperate values, one for each strength.

Country Specifc
With these commands you can affect countries other than your own. To use these commands, simply type the command followed by the country tag. Most of these commands will default to your own country if not supplied with a country tag. Switching countries will allow you to use the Quick Commands.

Using debug_mode and hovering over a province will show the owning country ID.
  • tag - Switch to that country.
  • die - Kills the current ruler.
  • add_heir - Adds heir to country.
    Country tag required. Use two spaces after the command.
  • kill_heir - Kills current heir to country.
    Country tag required. Use two spaces after the command.
  • annex - Begin annexation of a country.
    If annexation is already occuring, it will complete.
  • integrate - Begin integration of a country.
    If integration is already occuring, it will complete.
  • vassalize - Vassalize a country.
  • protectorate - Make a protectorate of a country.
  • form_union - Become leader of a union with a country.

Province Specific
With these commands you can manipulate individual provinces. To use these commands, simply type the command followed by the province ID number.

Using debug_mode and hovering over a province will show the ID.
  • add_claim - Gives a claim on the province.
  • remove_claim - Removes the claim on the province.
  • add_core - Makes the province a core.
  • remove_core - Removes the core from province.
  • own - Gives you ownership of the province.
  • controll - Gives you control of a province.
    In a war, you would occupy it.
  • culture - Changes province culture to your primary culture
  • setmissionaryprogress - Sets the missionary progress to 98%.
    You can specify a value.
  • revolt - Starts a revolt in the province using valid rebel types.
  • pirate - Spawns pirates in that sea zone.
  • population - Add 10 population to a colony.
    You can specify a value. Using on non-colonies sets the Rebels as owners, and will crash the game should they reach 1000.
  • add_natives - Adds natives to a province in increments of 100.
    You must specify a value.
  • colonize - Finishes colonizing a province.
Events
Event commands allow you to trigger any event in the game, regardless of whether or not the conditions have been met. Further, they allow you to do things that other console commands do not, namely add Republican Tradition.

There are far too many to simply list, but I will attempt to list at least one event for every important statistic not yet covered by other commands. Please comment below if you want me to add an event to modify something that I have not yet listed.

To use these events, simply type 'event' without quotes followed by the event ID/Name. Events allow you to input a Country Tag after the ID/Name, but will default to your current country.

Multi-Use
Can be used as many times as you like, and add no country modifiers. To quickly repeat your last command, press the up arrow on your keyboard while in the console. Positve relations max out at +200 for each type, and decay at 2/year.
  • republics.7 - Add 5 Republican Tradition.
  • 5099 - Add or subtract 2.5 Mercantilism.
  • 853 - Subtract 1 Inflation.
  • 860 - Subtract 2 War Exhaustion.
  • 5074 - Add 28 manpower to a random owned province.
  • 6015 - Add 1 Base Tax to a random owned province.
  • ideagroups.1205 - Subtract 1 Ferocity and Hostility to random owned Colony with Natives.
  • 5056 - Add 60 (Eased Tension) Opinion to every neighbor you're not at war with.
  • 5088 - Add 50 (Diplomatc Solution) Opinion to a neighbor with less than 50 opinion.
  • 864 - Add 30 (Improved Relations) Opinion to a neighbor, same religion, no truce or current war.
  • 5096 - Add 40 (Accepted Bribe) Opinion to a Holy Roman Empire Elector.
  • 9479 - Change Government to Constitutional Monarchy.
  • flavor_mng.17 - Change Government to Feudal Monarchy.
  • republics.3 - Change Government to Despotic Monarchy.
  • revolution.19 - Change Government to Revolutionary Republic.
  • westernisation.11 - Change Religion to Protestant.
  • westernisation.12 - Change Religion to Reformed.
  • westernisation.13 - Change Religion to Catholic.

Single-Use
Will add country modifiers, and can only be used once for their duration after which they can be used again. Where possible I've selected the modifiers with the smallest duration.
  • republics.14 - 5 Years of +1 Merchant or +15% Trade Power.

Province Specific
Requires a province ID following the event.
  • elective_monarchy.13 - 10 years of -3 Revolt Risk (Unrest), and +30% taxes. Once for duration.
  • 5073 - Choose to add Base Tax, Manpower, or both.
  • 5057 - Increase defensiveness by 10%. Costs 50 gold. Permanent, one-time command.
  • 6166 - Change religion to Catholic.
  • 6167 - Change religion to Protestant.
  • 6168 - Change religion to Reformed.
  • 6170 - Change religion to Orthodox.
  • 6175 - Change religion to ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Shi ite (censoring)
  • 6176 - Change religion to Sunni.
  • 6179 - Change religion to Shinto.
  • religious_events.4 - Change religion to Coptic.
Cassus Belli Types
It's always a good idea to have a reason to go to war, and with the add_cb command you can certainly accomplish that. Below are a list of useful Cassus Belli should you find you want to go to war, but can't.

Usage:
add_cb <cb_type> <country_tag>

Example Usage:
Starting as England, wanting to put Scotland into a personal union.
add_cb cb_restore_personal_union SCO

  • cb_restore_personal_union
    Allows you to put the target into a personal union under you.
  • cb_vassalize_mission
    Allows you to place the target under you as either a Vassal or Protectorate depending on their tech group.
  • cb_change_government
    Allows you to demand that the target change their government to your current type.
  • cb_religious_conformance
    Allows you to demand that the target change their religion to your current type.

For the most part, this guide has not been updated in 7 years. A host of DLC has changed events, added new ones, and changed and added to some of the key commands. It is unlikely I will be updating the key parts of this guide.

I have however updated the Appendix section.
