Intro
Eternity Splinters is a new feature added to Marvel Heroes in the delayed 31/07/2013 patch , and let’s you buy heroes for in-game currency instead of having to rely on RNG to drop them.

They are affected by Special Item Find, so you will get more Splinters by wearing gear and costume cores with +SIF.
Get the Eternity Splinters
The Eternity Splinters can drop from any mob within the whole game, but has a higher chance to drop from bosses and elite enemies. You should get some fairly often, and are intended to get between 8 and 12 Eternity Splinters per hour. They are of epic quality, which means that their name is purple, so they are easy to spot once they drop. The item on the ground also have an orange glow, so you won’t miss any of them!
The way the drop rate for Eternity Splinters works is kind of strange. Firstly, there is a hard coded max timer for getting one. This means that you will without a doubt get one every 8 minutes. Once you loot an Eternity Splinter, an internal clock will being ticking, and once it has reached 0, you will get a splinter in very few kills.

Special Item Find gear does not interfere with the 8 minute timer, but does increase the chance of finding an Eternity Splinter while the timer is still running. This is presumably counted as a bonus splinter, so the timer will still be at 8 minutes.

GUIDE: Want to farm Eternity Splinters while semi-AFK[levelupguides.com]?

Since they drop from any enemy, farming them is simply done by playing the game and killing as many enemies and bosses as possible. I suggest that you farm them by having as much fun as possible, since most farming strategies won’t increase your Splinters per hour ratio by a whole lot. However, below are some tips on grinding and farming the Splinters.
How to grind Eternity Splinters
As said above, Eternity Splinters can drop from any mob that is not flagged “grey” for you. That means that it must be about your level range, or you will not get any splinters at all.

Manhattan Patrol is currently a good way to get a lot of splinters fast, especially if you get a good group. Focus mostly on doing the thrash mobs, cause they seems to be more efficient to farm then the bosses. Also make sure to “tag” all the mobs by doing some AoE attacks, since you won’t get any loot if you don’t do any damage to it (unless you are in a group).

Terminals seems to have a bad drop ratio, because you don’t really kill a lot of mobs in a short amount of time.

Group terminals are currently the best way to farm them. Get a good group of 5 people, and just rush as many thrash mobs as possible. Don’t bother doing the wings on the terminals, just clear the middle field, then reset the instance.
Buy the new heroes

Each new hero costs between 200 and 600 Eternity Splinters, and are sold by Adam Warlock. The starter heroes are the cheapest, while the previously 2000G heroes like Spider-Man and Deadpool are the ones who costs 600 Eternity Splinters.

Once you’ve got enough Eternity Splinter to buy a new hero, head for Adam Warlock. He is located next to Gambit in any of the three quest hubs (Avenger’s Tower, Xavier’s School and the Helicarrier). Talk with him, and search for the hero you want to buy. Now just right click on that hero, and it will carry over to your inventory as long as you got enough Eternity Splinters.

Other items

Ultimate Power Upgrade: 200 Eternity Splinters.

The Ultimate Power Upgrade is a token that can be used by any hero that is above level 30, and increases their Ultimate Power by 1.

Random Hero: 175 Eternity Splinters.

The random Hero box contains any of the heroes that are for sale, including the 600 splinters ones. It has a slightly higher chance of containing the 200 splinter tier ones, so this is only for the gamblers! Also note that it can also contain any hero that you already have.

1) there was an update to ES. they can drop in groups of one to five

2) as far as I know, each hero has equal chance of being in a random hero box regardless of who they are, how expensive they are, or if you have them. anything I've heard points to it NOT being weighted toward 200 ES heroes.

3) random hero box are probably the best way to go until around 30 heroes.

4) Adam Warlock still sells random hero boxes, but he doesn't sell heroes or team-ups. you need to press T, choose the group you want(heo or team-up) then go to which one you want.

1- splinters are 6-8 minutes of active play. not 5-7. and 2-- How do you know you have a higher chance to random a 200 hero as opposed to a 600 hero? please post where that is stated officially. Also, the splinter drop is MUCH closer to 8 minutes.. but some say they've seen almost down to 6. so I'll believe them
