Height Advantage
Spheres(balls) have larger range when having height advantage over the target.
So they are good for anti-ground (lower targets).

It is quite challenging to do anti-air with spheres.
You must have it above the flight level which is about 6 blocks high.

However, if you build a tower that high it is very vulnerable to prisms. Because prisms always have a larger range and can break your tower foundation first.

There are some more ideal situations where you can take advantage of spheres vs air:
  • When your sphere towers are sitting on top of a cliff and an enemy aircraft is trying climb up. You get height advantage.
  • When spheres are used on an aircraft with tower. Your spheres have height advantage over the other aircraft.

Same thing to consider if you are switching to the attack role.

Projectile
The projectiles from spheres have physical property. They cannot travel through other non-target objects. And it takes time for them to fly to target.

So the installation spot of a sphere matters.
  • When a sphere is installed on top of a cube of a very high tower, it cannot hit low targets because the base cube will block the bullet.
  • When installed on the side of a cube, the shooting area behind the tower is blocked.
  • As the height of the installation spot increases, the time it takes for the projectile to reach ground target is longer, increasing the chance of a miss.

Anti-Air
The simplest way to do anti-air defense is to use prisms. Because they use a lot of energy. Just build simple and low towers with prisms. The tower draws energy from ground and is quickly supplied to the prism due to simplicity.

If the towers are blocking each other, the ones on the back can be built a bit taller so they have better line-of-sight.

If you are trying to build a "Prism Gatling". The prisms will drain the power faster than the supply because of their high output. You will see them stop when there is no power left and continue when more energy is supplied, like burst firing.

The initial firing will be the most powerful one. Because a chunk of energy is available after the rest. (Or if you have disc or plane block, they can be configured to help power supply)

You can always micro control. Command a unit of yours to target a specific enemy critical part.

Air Units
The disc blocks will lift things up until they reach the flight level.

If the disc blocks are installed here and there, they will maintain average their position to the flight level.

Simple way to build a stable ship is to do it symmetrically.

Energy(power) UI
You can see the health and energy of a block by mouse hovering it.

When you select a unit, the power percentage of all blocks is displayed.

You can also use the energy view from the tab located on the top right of the screen.
This energy view tells you how much power each block have. And the arrows on the lines tell the flow of energy.

Organization
Try to build structures of specific purposes than sticking any available turrets to any existing structures. This will make it clearer for you on the screen without messiness on top of perhaps an already crazy situation you are encountering. The specific structures can also be moved around quickly with bulk move.

E.g: A tower of prisms specifically for anti-air capability. Spinning pillar(Gatling) with spheres specifically for high damage to large ground targets.
