Steam In-Game Fix

For people that cant get In-game steam to work in Payday 2

Method 1

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\PAYDAY 2
  • Right Click payday2_win32_release.exe and select Properties
  • Click Compatibility tab
  • Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 98 / Windows Me (Only works on this setting)

Method 2
This section for people that cant get Compatibility tab listed above


Search for Run (Dont press Enter)
Click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows


Click Next Compatibility mode only one present OR click Compatibility mode if menu looks different.


Payday 2 is Not Listed


C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\PAYDAY 2
^ Copy & Paste


C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\PAYDAY 2\payday2_win32_release.exe
^ Copy & Paste


Press Troubleshoot Program


Only check The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won install or run now


Only check Windows 98 / Windows ME (Only works on this version!)

Then you HAVE to test it, you can't skip this step.


If Steam In-Game works, press YES!


Just close it, dont worry about the warnings and the other nonesense.

Did Method 1. Begins opening, but stops after asking permission to make changes. Grrrr!! Now what?!

i can use method 1 but it still wont work, im using windows 8

Alright. Another question about this, when I set it in compatibility mode to get my overlay, I can't change my volume without alt+tabbing out. Is there some other option I'm missing that'll let me have volume control again?

I updated the guide for missing Compatibility tab issue. Also, this only known way how to fix this.

My game's performance drops when doing this. Is there any other known way the get the overlay to work?

I don't have Compatibility in my Properties. Instead, it is replaced by Sharing. I am using Windows 7. Please assist.
