Easy as Applepie
  1. Go to http://timeslip.users.sourceforge.net/ and download the MANUAL Septerra core patch 0.3 (scroll down, bottom left Navigation Pane)
  2. Extract the ZIP into the Directory of the Game (Readme and ddraw.dll) and edit septerra.ini to the Values you want to scale the display to (explained in the readme)
  3. Now create a COPY of the the Video Files (M1.DB to M9B.DB, MONOLITH.DB, topware.db and valkyrie.db) and change the extension to AVI (M1.AVI, M2.AVI, etc.)
  4. ......
  5. PROFIT and enjoy a nice blast from the RPG Past!
Disclaimer: You might need to install QuickTime 7 and ffdshow seperately.

EDIT: There is also This Project over on GitHub[github.com] if one still has problems.

I'm getting a whitescreen with sound, anyone else?

I was able to make the Septerra Core cutscenes work just by changing some settings in QuickTime Player. I have QuickTime Version 7.7.9. Do these steps: Open QuickTime, Go to Edit, then Preferences, click QuickTime Preferences (a new window will appear), go to "Advanced" tab, in the Video section un-select DirectX.

Thank you so much @fedprod for posting that Github project! I can only view the movies using that project's exe. But the game itself stutters when playing. So I switch back to another exe to play the game normally. :D

And totally forgot, there is also this project [github.com] if the above doesn't help you.

Hm. No clue what codec is missing then.
The original movies are just renamed .MOV files, the renaming is just that ffdshow, etc with help from the ddraw.dll can play them. Did you try to play them in the MediaPlayer of your choice?

Just re-downloaded the game and plays them fine, then again I have Zoom Player with all its Codec Packs installed. You could try installing ZP, a complete codec pack, or try Timeslip's Autopatcher (the .exe from the same source), wich transcodes them into real AVI files (didn't work for me though, so I searched for alternatives).

The only extra video codecs I installed with ZP (actually all in the handy Installer):
LAV Filters, MadVR, FFDShow, Haali's Media Splitter, FFMPEG Core
Latest Versions of course. If you don't like ZP, MPC is also a good choice.

And configured QT to play videos for DirectX
Windows System Control > QuickTime (32),
under "Advanced" all Options in Video to DirectX and enabled

(And d**n 1k char limit)^^

I downloaded and installed ffdshow already. The properties on quicktime says its quicktime 7.

Then you also need to install QuickTime 7 (QTlite should suffice) and/or ffdshow, since the routines are not handled by Direct Show anymore nowadays (old games on new systems ^^)

I fixed that part, and now the game runs. The videos will play, but its just sound and a black screen.

Are you sure you picked the zipped archive and made a COPY of the video files?
If the original .db video files are not there, it searches for them on the CD.
Also the dll doesn't do anything to the CD Check from the exe.
So if you have the original Disc Version you still need to insert the disk.

I did exactly as this said, and now the game won't even run. It keeps saying I need to insert the CD in the drive? What is that all about.
