What Is Morbus?
Definition Of Morbus : A plague like disease.
Morbus is a "Murder Mystery" type game mode played in Garry's Mod. Morbus is now a fairly dead game mode that hardly anyone plays (for now at least.) It involves a science fiction theme and gives a very eerie and scary mood. The maps are fairly sized. well made, and fun to play. The game is technically 2-32 players... but i suggest getting a group of 3 other friends ( 4 people total, including you) to play this game with. Some people may remember when this game was popular. A few people have said that they have had more memories they are fond of than in the newer game modes such as TTT. Now everyone ( practically everyone ) has played TTT. Lots of people love it, and don't get me wrong, its a great game. But if you love TTT then you should 100% try Morbus. It will give you a run for your money when deciding on the server list which one to pick.. (if people are playing it at least.) No matter what type of play style you like, you can play it in here. To summarize:

  • Morbus is a scary murder mystery type game.
  • Morbus is best played with over 3 people.
  • The more people the better the game will be.
  • The game is dead but you will get a few people joining who remember it back from when it was popular.
  • Morbus is immensely fun and is completely underrated. In my personal opinion its the best Murder Mystery game out there.
  • Morbus is unique and offers a diverse play style that many people can enjoy.

Now that you see what type of game it is and are hopefully convinced to keep reading... let's go on to how you play "Morbus."
How Do I Play Morbus?
The in's and out's of Morbus are quite simple to learn, but hard to master. This section will be split in half. The top side will be basic, easy, and simple. This is for the people who want to jump in with enough game knowledge to understand whats going on, but not be that good at the game. But first, some slang:

Useful Slang

  • RDM - "Random Deathmatch" - This is when someone kills another player for no reason.
  • KOS - "Kill On Sight" - If someone says, "KOS Bob, he's a brood alien!" Then they are telling you to immediately open fire on the player named "Bob"
  • High Sus - "Highly Suspicious" - The person they are talking about is acting highly suspicious and should be watched closely (They think this person MIGHT be a brood alien/traitor)
  • Mid - "Middle" - When someone says, "Come to mid!" or "He's at mid!" they are referring to the middle of the map. This is where most groups meet up, or hang out at because its equal distance away from all objectives and areas. Dont worry, all maps have a "Mid."
  • Barricade/Fortify - "Defend/Block/Strengthen" - Some maps have props like tables that are able to be pushed towards doors. When someone does this they are "Barricading" or "Fortifying" the room.
  • Glow/Glo - "Glow sticks" - If someone says, "I need some glow over here!" they are signalling to your group that they need lights/glow sticks.
Now that you know some basic terminology of Morbus, lets get into the basics!

Basic Explanation Of The Rules & How To Play
When the round starts each player is given a random name and a 20 second delay (usually) until the game starts. When the game starts you will be assigned to a team. There are two teams;

Aliens
  • The Aliens' entire goal is to kill all humans.
  • Aliens can see the outline of all players (including other aliens. Purple outline = Alien, Green = Human)
  • There is only ONE alien to start with.
  • Aliens do less damage with all weapons but their alien forms.
  • Aliens are able to purchase upgrades using the "C" menu.
  • There are 2 types of aliens: Brood Aliens and Swarm Aliens.
  • The starting alien is a Brood Alien.
  • Brood Aliens are the strongest aliens and give you the most customization for your play style
  • Brood Aliens only have one life.
  • Brood Aliens can disguise themselves as humans.
  • Swarm Aliens are the weakest role in the game
  • Swarm Aliens can right click to launch weak projectiles
  • Swarm Aliens have infinite lives.
  • Brood Aliens can kill Swarm Aliens
  • When a alien die's it becomes a Swarm Alien.
  • IF ALL BROOD ALIENS ARE DEAD, THEN THE GAME IS OVER AND HUMANS WIN!
Humans
  • The Humans' entire goal is to kill all Brood Aliens.
  • Humans have to do missions during the round to avoid loosing health ( and eventually dying )
  • Humans are able to customize their player models with "F4"
  • Humans cannot tell if someone is a human or alien
  • Humans will win if the round ends and a human is still alive
  • Humans have to deal with the weight system
Now that the teams are out of the way... Both teams have flashlights which are very useful for seeing better in the damply lit maps. Press "F" to use your flashlight. Guns are scattered around the map so grab a phew and get going! So far we have taught you how to win as each team, basic functions of the game, and simple commands and facts about both teams. Time for the complicated stuff. (End of basic guide)

For the sake of this guide being easier to navigate I will split up the intermediate stuff into different sections.
Proximity Voice Chat
Most players of Garry's Mod know what this means. Proximity voice is when only people around you can hear what your saying. Aliens may use this to their advantage to know where your going and how to catch you off guard. Voice chat along with in game text goes through walls so people outside in the hallway can hear your private conversation. Swarm Aliens are able to talk to Brood Aliens and no one else. Be careful with what you say.
Alien Tactics
All people have a different play style. This is where you are able to show it. Aliens are able to upgrade, see through walls, and disguise as humans (at least Brood Aliens.) For this section we will be mainly going over stuff about Brood Aliens because Swarm Aliens are simple enough to understand.

Brood Alien Classes
In the upgrades panel there is 3 sections you can upgrade:
Attack - Defense - Utility
There are many combinations with this but a few breeds stand out:

Invisibility Breed
Involves putting points into the Utility tree and getting the invis upgrade. Getting points in the Silence is optional but suggested.

Skilling Involves : Maxing The Adaptive Carapace, 1 Point Into Strengthened Legs, 1 Point Into Silence/Softened Breach, 1 Point Into Whichever You Prefer.

Offensive Breed

Putting useful slang after the basic explanation would further achieve what you want to achieve in the guide (Getting plays up to speed on how to play the game). Some of the slang I've never seen used before, despite playing for 6 years now.

I would recommend adding in the fact that broods are able to use nades in order to turn players into broods (The way it works is that you throw the nade, then turn into a brood before it explodes. everyone who dies becomes a brood. Very effective and useful for new players who don't know how to deal with groups of broods. )
